Chapter 731 Still Can't Forget Her
In a private room of a high-end hotel.
Ronnie had one arm around a seductive beauty, but his mind was elsewhere.
Across from him, the chubby Orville Kidd was also holding a starlet. Orville was showering Ronnie with all sorts of compliments, trying to please him.
Ronnie found Orville's sycophantic face repulsive. It was a face he often had to deal with, one that was disgustingly obsequious.
Ronnie had seen countless faces like that since he was a child.
It was because of this that Juniper was so special to him.
She never wore a mask of pretense in life; she straightforwardly said and did whatever she wanted.
Even if she sometimes lost her temper and wore a scowl, it was still better than these ingratiating false faces.
Probably because he thought about her too much, Ronnie's temples began to throb with a strong pain, a sensation he hated.
Seeing that his words were falling on deaf ears, Orville finally shut up and signaled to the woman he had arranged for Ronnie.
Understanding the cue, the woman immediately tried her best to please the man beside her. "Mr. Woods, would you like red wine or whiskey? I can hold my liquor well. Let me toast you. Mr. Woods?"
She leaned closer to him, her hand slowly moving up his leg. "Mr. Woods."
She blew into his ear, a temptation most men couldn't resist.
However, Ronnie frowned. "Did you pour a bottle of perfume on yourself?"
"No, I didn't."
Ronnie ordered, "Stay away from me. The perfume is too strong."
The woman awkwardly said, "Mr. Woods, I..."
Ronnie shot her a cold glance, and she reluctantly moved her chair a bit away.
Ronnie picked up his whiskey and downed it in one gulp, the burning sensation in his throat making his mind exceptionally clear.
Juniper's words from yesterday morning kept replaying in his mind.
Did she really quit?
But he didn't dare to hope for anything; she wouldn't quit, she couldn't leave Anthony.
Yet her attitude back then was so resolute, unlike before.
Maybe...
Ronnie warned himself, 'Does it have anything to do with you? No matter what, she doesn't like you. Stop wishfully thinking. You've been humble enough; keep the last bit of your dignity.'
He ordered his mind to stop thinking about her immediately.
But the more he tried to control it, the more it had a mind of its own, obsessively thinking about her.
It was like a curse, constantly swirling in his mind, tormenting his nerves.
Ronnie suddenly crushed the glass and stood up.
He didn't want to torture himself like this anymore; he had to see her immediately!
His impulsive behavior startled everyone. "Mr. Woods?"
Ronnie kicked away the chair and strode out, ordering the driver to take him to her apartment.
The journey was only ten minutes, but to Ronnie, it felt like an eternity.
The thought of seeing her raged in his mind; he had to see her!
Finally, he arrived.
He rang the doorbell forcefully.
"Ronnie?" The door opened, and Juniper's eyes widened in surprise as she looked at him.
Ronnie was stunned.
It was the first time he saw surprise in her eyes.
She used to always look at him with disdain, as if he were a troublesome burden. But now, she was genuinely happy to see him.
'What? Just a little sweetness is enough to make you ecstatic?' While he despised himself for it, Ronnie couldn't help but feel a bit excited.
He was truly humble.
"I thought you wouldn't come to see me again." Juniper was pleasantly surprised. She had always regretted losing such a friend.
"You wish I wouldn't come to see you and bother you, right?" Ronnie said deliberately in an arrogant tone.
"No, that's not what I meant. I still need to return the house to you."
Ronnie glanced behind her and saw a small suitcase. "You're moving out?"
Juniper replied, "Yes. Didn't I tell you yesterday? I've resigned, so there's no need to stay here anymore."
Ronnie reminded, "Don't speak too soon. Your so-called resignation is just talk, right?"
"I've already submitted my resignation letter, and it's been approved. Tomorrow is my last day at work."
"Anthony can bear it? You can bear it?" Ronnie raised an eyebrow, trying to mask his jealousy with indifference.
Juniper said, "There's nothing to bear. My relationship with him has come to an end; there's no future."
Ronnie mocked, "Nice words. Didn't you say that before, many times? Yet you kept going back and forth, never really breaking it off. Women always say that, but when it comes to action, they soften."
Juniper felt belittled by him.
She realized that she couldn't show him a good face; once she did, he would start lecturing her.
Juniper said, "Anyway, it's between me and him. Why should I explain so much to you? Believe it or not. I'm moving out the day after tomorrow."
That last sentence pricked Ronnie's heart.
He couldn't bear it.
Her living in his house gave him a strange sense of security and satisfaction. Even if he didn't have her, just knowing she was there was enough.
But once she moved out, their connection would be completely severed.
He couldn't bear it and felt a bit panicked.
Ronnie asked, "Even if I reluctantly believe you, what are your plans after resigning? Go home and rely on your father, living off him?"
"How could that be? You know my relationship with my dad. When I resign, I'll get half a month's salary, so I won't starve for now."
It should be enough for a one-way ticket to Libertonia, and she could find a job there to earn money.
Ronnie suggested, "Come to my company."
"What?"
Ronnie explained, "You don't want to rely on your father, right? Then you need a job. Come to my company. Don't get me wrong. With your bad temper, I don't want you to harm people at other companies."
Juniper knew very well that no matter what he said, he just wanted to keep her by his side. He still had feelings for her.
She felt conflicted. On one hand, she didn't want to lose this friend; on the other hand, she didn't want to stay by his side and hurt him.
But if she had a choice, she would rather choose the latter. Before the harm deepened, it was better to part ways completely and thoroughly.
Ronnie asked, "So, what do you say? Coming or not? What are you thinking?"
"No."
"Why? You went to the Eilish Group, but you look down on the Woods Group?"
Juniper denied, "That's not the issue."
Ronnie pressed, "Then is it because of me? Because you hate me, so you want to avoid my company? I didn't ask you to be my secretary, just to work at my company. Our company's benefits are among the best in the city; you won't find a better option."
"Thank you for your kindness, but... I don't plan to find a job in the country."
"What do you mean?"
Juniper took a deep breath and looked into his eyes. "I'm leaving here and going back to Libertonia."
