Chapter 755 Getting into Trouble
As soon as the two entered the restaurant, they indeed attracted a lot of attention, and some people started whispering again.
"You see, it's that bitch again."
"I heard she's directly working with Brice now."
"There's no such coincidence; it must be planned. She used her looks to win over Brice and secure the project."
"Who would have thought that someone as aloof as Brice would fall for it?"
"No matter how aloof a man is, he's still a man. They can't resist a beautiful woman. When they see a beauty, they surrender. After all, they think with their genitals."
"I disagree. There are so many beautiful women chasing Brice, why her? I think it's not just her looks; it's her cunning and bedroom skills."
"Exactly. A woman with good bedroom skills can make any man spin around her finger."
"They're so blatant about being together, not avoiding suspicion at all. Do they think we're all fools? It's too high-profile."
"Isn't it? I really hope Mr. Eilish looks into this and just gets rid of her. I still want to see my Brice every day."
"Exactly! We can't let someone like her ruin the company's atmosphere."
Brice came back with two steaks.
"Don't mind what they're saying; they're just jealous of you."
Juniper nodded indifferently, "Yeah, I know. I'm used to it."
"You have a great attitude."
"When you've lived with jealous looks from your peers all your life, you get used to it," Juniper said as she cut into her steak. Right now, she just wanted to eat.
"I like how carefree you are. I'm the same way. The more men are jealous of me, the happier I am; it proves I'm excellent. But now they're jealous because I have such a beautiful girlfriend." Brice said proudly.
"Isn't this a bit too much? Should we clarify things?"
Although she didn't care what others said, it was still someone else's turf, and she wanted to keep a low profile. Being too conspicuous could lead to trouble.
"Sure, but do you think they'll believe it?"
"Then... why don't you get a girlfriend?"
"Oh my God, what did I do to offend you? I'm so good to you, and you want to harm me? Do you have a conscience? Today you're my girlfriend, and tomorrow someone else is. People would call me a scumbag. If the company investigates me for conduct issues, I'm done for."
Juniper thought about it and agreed. No matter what, it was wrong. Being this beautiful was just her misfortune.
At that moment, she saw Anthony sitting with Joey across from them.
Their seats were facing each other. Although Anthony didn't look up, Juniper knew he saw her and Brice together.
She felt a bit panicked.
Anthony had always been good to her, so she wasn't worried about him dealing with her.
She was worried about Brice. Getting him fired was just a word from Anthony. Hopefully, he wouldn't do that.
"Why do you have that worried look again?"
"What? No, nothing. Maybe the steak is a bit bitter."
"Really? Our company's steak is comparable to a five-star restaurant. Maybe the chef is off today. Mine's fine; let's switch."
"No need."
"I haven't eaten it yet."
"But I've already eaten mine."
"I like it that way." Brice switched their plates.
Juniper lost her appetite.
The women's jealous stares became even more intense.
"Mr. Darden is too good to her, cutting her steak and eating her leftovers."
"Are they here to work or date? What do they think the company is? It's too much."
"That woman is definitely showing off on purpose. So annoying!"
"Exactly! How long is she going to flaunt herself?"
"No, we have to teach her a lesson, or I'll be furious."
"Yeah."
Anthony had been holding back for a long time, his face growing tighter. Finally, he couldn't help but say, "Why him? Wasn't it supposed to be Jason?"
Joey's worst fear had come true. Not wanting to see his old friend get fired, he defended, "Jason took sick leave for surgery, so the project was handed over to Brice."
He hid the fact that Brice had volunteered.
"Is he the only one in the entire project team? No one else?" Anthony's tone was resentful. He didn't believe it was that simple.
"Everyone else... is quite busy. Brice just finished a project and had some free time, so... the timing matched. It was a coincidence, a coincidence." Joey answered nervously, worried about losing his job.
'Brice, if I lose my job because of you, I won't let you off even if I die!' he lamented inwardly.
"Replace him!" Seeing them so close together made Anthony's heart burn like fire, unable to find peace.
"Yes, Mr. Eilish." Joey hoped for this outcome. Things would go wrong if this continued. Replacing him was better than getting fired.
Losing this high-paying job would be a shame, even though Brice's family was very wealthy.
His initial instinct was right: women are trouble. Getting involved with that woman would bring bad luck. It's best to distance themselves from her to stay safe.
But after a few minutes, Anthony said, "Forget it."
Joey was stunned. Anthony had always been decisive. In the time he'd worked with him, this was the first time he'd seen him change his mind so quickly after making a decision.
When a man is this indecisive, it means the woman is causing him a lot of inner conflict and holds a significant place in his heart.
Joey didn't understand. She was beautiful, but so cunning. Couldn't Anthony and Brice see that? How could they be so infatuated with her?
Anthony felt even more exhausted. He didn't like this version of himself.
He told himself he couldn't interfere anymore, not even pay attention to her affairs. Once he interfered, it would only escalate, and he'd get entangled again.
'Anthony, no matter how jealous you are, who she is with is her freedom. If you interfere, it's your fault.'
'Let her go, let go. You can only bear the pain alone. As long as she's happy, that's enough.'
After lunch, Juniper went to the restroom.
"I'll wait for you at the door," Brice said.
"No need. If you stand there, people might think you're a peeping Tom, a pervert. You go up first; I need to touch up my makeup."
"Touch up for me? No need, you're already beautiful. If you put on more makeup, I might not be able to work, just staring at you."
"Smooth talker." Juniper laughed.
As soon as she entered the restroom, a few women stood there with their arms crossed, full of hostility.
Juniper didn't like confrontations and wanted to leave, but they blocked the door. Each had a look that said they had to teach her a lesson today.
