Chapter 629: Card Freeze
For the whole week, no matter how much Anthony tried to shoo her away or showed his annoyance, Juniper just wouldn't scram, which really ticked him off.
In the morning, Anthony stomped downstairs with a scowl, handing the breakfast to his assistant.
The assistant, like always, took it to toss it out.
But just as he got to the trash can, Anthony hollered, "Bring it back."
The assistant was taken aback, "Uh, sure thing, Mr. Eilish."
Anthony set the breakfast aside and started typing away on his laptop. His fingers were flying, but his mind was somewhere else.
His eyes kept darting to the breakfast, 'Weird. Why'd I keep it today? Am I already falling for Juniper's tricks?'
No way, he still couldn't stand her.
Keeping the breakfast was just 'cause he didn't want to waste it, definitely not 'cause of her.
She kept making breakfast every day, bragging about her cooking. But how could a flaky chick like her be any good in the kitchen? Even though this sandwich looked alright, it had to taste awful.
Anthony hesitated, then took a bite.
To his shock, it was fresh and tasty.
It hit him with a weird feeling; maybe Juniper, that annoying and unpredictable woman, wasn't totally useless.
Upstairs, seeing the assistant bring the breakfast back, Juniper couldn't help but cheer, "Yes!"
She'd been spying every day, and he finally accepted the breakfast she made. Next, he'd accept her. To her, it was like winning a battle.
Juniper felt a bit smug. She knew she could handle anything. Especially since she put so much effort into this, how could Anthony resist?
She'd win his heart, step by step.
In a great mood, Juniper went shopping and snagged a few sexy dresses at a fancy store. She planned to use her charm next; she didn't believe Anthony could resist.
As she walked, Juniper stopped at a men's clothing store.
After a moment of hesitation, she walked in.
The sales associate greeted her warmly, "Hey there! What can I help you with?"
Juniper thought for a moment. Anthony wore shirts all the time, which was so boring. Actually, men's knitwear was pretty cool.
She picked out a bright yellow knit sweater.
The sales associate gushed, "Wow, you have great taste. This is our new season's limited edition."
"Wrap it up."
"Sure thing."
Juniper then picked out a few more bright-colored clothes.
At checkout, the sales associate was all smiles.
Juniper handed over a credit card.
But it got declined.
The sales associate tried a couple more times, but it still didn't work, "Ms. Cooper, your credit card's been frozen."
"What? No way. Try again." Juniper tried all her debit and credit cards, but none worked.
Damn. Her dad really froze her cards.
Juniper immediately rushed to the Cooper Group.
"Ms. Juniper Cooper, Mr. Aaron Cooper is meeting a guest. You can't go in," the secretary said.
Ignoring the secretary, Juniper barged into the office, "Did you freeze my credit cards?"
Aaron had to ask the guest to leave first, "I'm in a meeting. How can you be so inconsiderate?"
"Did you freeze my credit cards?"
"Yeah, I did. I've called you so many times these days, and you didn't answer. If I didn't freeze your cards, would you come to see me?"
"How dare you freeze my credit cards?"
"Because I'm your dad. The money you blow through is mine."
"No, it's my mom's. She left me a big inheritance, which you’re holding back."
"I'm just keeping it safe for you, or you'd waste it all. Now you've got some boyfriend from a bar, and he's definitely after your cash. Douglas told me he's a gigolo you hired."
"Are you seriously gonna believe that scumbag? My boyfriend's awesome, he runs his own business."
"Then I definitely can't give you the money. It's gotta be a scam, just waiting for you to invest."
"You're so narrow-minded."
"No, I've seen more of the world and know the dangers better than you. I can spot a bad apple a mile away."
"You're just more self-righteous than me," Juniper sneered, "I'm the one dating, not you. I don't need your concern."
"I can't help but worry about you as long as you're my daughter. You're still too naive and inexperienced to avoid being easily deceived by those men."
"Look at these dresses you bought." Aaron was fuming, "It shows your boyfriend is no good, letting you wear such indecent and tacky clothes."
"That's our private matter, none of your business." Juniper hid the dresses behind her.
"One mistake is enough. I won't trip over the same stone twice," Juniper said firmly, "My boyfriend is great. No need for your concern."
"If he's so great, bring him to meet me. I can tell what kind of person he is at a glance."
"Why should I bring my boyfriend to meet you?"
"You don't want to go on blind dates, right? Bring your boyfriend over. If I think he's good, I won't mention blind dates again. Also, until you bring him to meet me, all your cards are frozen. Let him support you and see if his attitude towards you changes."
"I..."
Juniper was already crashing at someone else's place. How could she use Anthony's money?
"You don't dare? No confidence? You know your relationship is based on money? Has he been spending your money in the past week?"
"Of course not. He's successful in his career. He's not a gigolo."
"I'll know when I see him. Just bring him over."
"You think I care about your money? I don't need it," Juniper stomped her foot, storming out of the office.
She instinctively wanted to grab a cab, but suddenly remembered she was broke and didn't have the fare.
She was born into wealth, never worrying about food or clothes, with at least a few million dollars in her account. She had never been this poor, not even having money for takeout tonight.
But should she give up immediately? No way, she didn't want to be looked down upon.
At worst, she would walk back.
Juniper, fueled by anger, walked for two hours to get back to the mansion, her legs almost giving out. When she arrived, she collapsed on the sofa, too exhausted to do anything.
If she had to rely on her legs to get around in the future, she would be unable to go anywhere and starve to death.
Luckily, she had bought plenty of fruits, veggies, and snacks at the supermarket yesterday, enough to last for a few days.
Juniper decided not to go out this week. Anthony was slowly warming up to her. As long as she got through this week and got closer to him, he would definitely accompany her to see her dad. By then, he would truly be her boyfriend.
Thinking of this, Juniper felt her fatigue lift and her spirits rise. She was, after all, an optimist.
She put on a smile again and went to the kitchen to find something to eat.
