Chapter 357 She Stood Tall and Proud

After signing the contract, Leonard slipped away.

The other people in the office looked at Layla with a complex and strange look, and for a while, no one dared to speak.

What happened today was too bizarre.

Levi secretly gave Layla a thumbs-up.

Fanny adjusted her emotions, came out of the office, and happened to see Levi's gesture, glaring at him fiercely. Levi quickly lowered his head.

Layla raised the contract in her hand. "It's done. What about my salary now?"

"Layla Adkins, this is a play you and Leonard Hawthorne staged together. Playing me, huh?"

"I don't understand what you're talking about."

"Don't act innocent with me. He agreed to sign a long time ago, deliberately said he would call and scold you, making me misunderstand that he was unhappy with you, and then turned around to teach me. You're so cunning."

Layla laughed, "You should be a screenwriter if you're not wasting your talent."

"This is not something I imagined. It's a fact. You are even more cunning than I thought. You are really good at enchanting men. Even Mr. Hawthorne was enchanted by you, cooperating with you to play such a scene. You're amazing."

"Say what you want, salary."

Fanny seemed unwilling to give it.

"You promised me initially. Are you planning to go back on your word?" Layla didn't hold much hope for her character, but she was too shameless this time.

"Don't talk nonsense. Ms. Taylor never said such things."

"That's right. We can all testify."

"Ms. Taylor definitely didn't say that," Others sincerely spoke up for Fanny.

"Everyone knows in their hearts. Whether it was said or not, everyone has ears to listen." Layla couldn't be bothered to argue with them.

"You're following Leonard Hawthorne, and you care about this little money? Pretending to be noble, right? If you want money, I'll give it to you, but not now. Let's see if you can get it." Fanny gave Layla a haughty look, indicating that she would cause more trouble for Layla in the future.

Although Layla knew it was unnecessary to argue with such a person, she had put in the effort and had to get her salary before leaving, not letting Fanny benefit.

Cassandra took the contract and saw that it was a ten-year deal, feeling even more jealous. 'This society doesn't value hard work. It's all about looks. I entered the industry earlier than Layla, much more talented, but still lost to her, who was beautiful and alluring. It's so unfair!' she thought.

Cassandra thought that women like Layla should disappear so that society would be fair.

Cassandra said bitterly, "A ten-year contract, not bad in your talent in bed."

"Good job!"

"We can't compare."

The air was filled with jealousy.

Layla didn't bother to clarify her innocence to them. Even if she presented mountains of evidence, they would still think Layla used her body to get the deal, so why waste her words? More importantly, Layla didn't care how they saw her or what they thought.

Layla's lips curled lazily as she responded, "Besides being sharp-tongued, you're not good at anything else."

One sentence sparked anger among the female employees.

"Who's being sharp-tongued? We're just telling the truth."

"As you can do it, why are you afraid of us saying it?"

"If you didn't do it, why do you care? Isn't it obvious you're feeling guilty?"

Layla pulled out a chair and sat down. She had never violated moral standards, but as for them, they were like bugs in a sewer, dark and dirty, unable to withstand the light. Arguing with them would only lower Layla's status.

At six o'clock in the afternoon, Layla left on time.

"Miss Adkins, good evening." Mr. Vandella was waiting for Layla in the car.

"Mr. Vandella, you were amazing today!" Layla was delighted. "No wonder you're the assistant to the big boss. You have top-notch ability. You handled this beautifully!"

Mr. Vandella blushed at the praise, modestly saying, "It's my duty. I'm just glad to help Miss Adkins out of a tight spot. It's mainly the boss's intention. The boss is overseas, but he cares about everything concerning you. He really cares for you."

This didn't need to be said. Layla was most grateful to Samuel, who was like a god-like presence!

Layla wasn't used to relying on others, not wanting to be a vine clinging to others, but having someone to rely on really gave her a sense of security. With a big support behind her, Layla just needed to move forward and do what she wanted to do.

Having Samuel in her life was such a blessing.

"I've recently realized that it's not easy for women in the workplace," Mr. Vandella sighed. "Work pressure, relationships, dealing with male clients and colleagues, it's all crisis around."

"Yes," Layla sighed. Not everyone was as lucky as her to have Samuel as a support. Many more girls had to fight alone, facing the dangers and malice of society. Every step was thorny and difficult.

If it weren't for Samuel, Layla wouldn't know how to handle this situation.

No, to be precise, if it weren't for Samuel, Layla wouldn't have been able to hold on. Samuel shielded her from the storm and solved many of her troubles.

"If I have a girlfriend in the future, I will protect her well." Mr. Vandella would never let his girlfriend suffer in the workplace. He would protect her innocence.

"I believe you. Being your girlfriend would definitely be happy. But first, you have to..."

"Miss Adkins, even if you don't finish that sentence, we're still good friends."

Layla smiled, changing the subject. "What about dinner tonight?"

"I'm sorry. I was busy dealing with Leonard Hawthorne's matters today and didn't have time to go back for food."

"No problem." 'Mr. Vandella wasn't Superman. How could he manage everything?' she thought.

"Would you like me to drop you off at home? I have plenty of food at home. I can cook some noodles for myself."

"Sorry for the trouble."

"It's not a bother. Why don't you come up and eat, too?"

"I don't want to trouble you."

"It's not a bother. Cooking pasta is easy."

"Let's forget it, maybe next time."

With Mr. Vandella saying so, Layla didn't insist. "Alright, next time then."

As the car drove for a while, Layla couldn't help but ask, "When will he be back?"

"It's been postponed by a week."

"Why?"

"What's wrong? You miss my boss?"

"I don't miss him," Layla denied in a muffled voice, but she couldn't ignore the hint of loss in her heart.

Layla thought she would see Samuel tomorrow.

In fact, Samuel had only been gone for three days, not a long time, but it felt like three centuries to Layla. During work hours, she could stuff herself with work. But at night, especially when falling asleep and waking up in the middle of the night, the longing surged. She missed him so much, his breath, his embrace, his arms, and everything.

Layla suddenly felt a bit down.

"Miss Adkins, we've arrived."

"Okay." Layla came back to her senses, unbuckled her seatbelt, got out of the car, and walked into the elevator listlessly.

She stared blankly as the floors rose one by one.

When it was about to reach her floor, her heart suddenly moved, and she couldn't help but take out her phone and make a call.

The elevator opened.

At the same time, her phone rang.

Layla looked in surprise at the tall figure at the door.
