Chapter 494 He Saved Her
May had made up her mind; she was going to get closer to Caleb.
With just the two of them tonight, chances like this would be rare. She had to make it count.
"Can you walk?" Caleb asked.
May glanced at her scratched calf. Perfect, an opportunity.
It didn't hurt, but she pretended it did, giving Caleb a pitiful look and biting her lip. "I-I can walk."
She tried to stand but stumbled, falling into Caleb's arms, her face brushing his chest.
"S-Sorry, I can't stand up," May said, blushing.
She thought she was being clever, but Caleb saw through it. He'd seen this tactic before and found it disgusting. But she was Susan's sister, so he couldn't just leave her.
Caleb sighed. "Can't walk?"
"No."
"I'll carry you."
May was thrilled.
When Caleb picked her up, she wrapped her arms around his neck, saying, "This is so embarrassing."
"It's fine," Caleb replied coldly.
He placed her in the passenger seat. "To the hospital?"
"No, I had a fight with my mom today. I don't want to upset her more. I've been taking care of her at the hospital for days without sleep. I just want to go home and rest. I'll go back tomorrow."
"Alright."
May gave him the address. "Thank you, Mr. Eilish."
"Isn't calling you Mr. Eilish too formal? Can I call you by your name?"
"Sure." Caleb didn't mind.
"Alright, Caleb." May smiled sweetly, feeling even happier inside.
Being allowed to call him by his name meant he didn't dislike her. This gave her hope.
Thinking about it, May felt a surge of excitement. The image of Caleb saving her kept replaying in her mind, more intoxicating than alcohol.
She stole a glance at him. Caleb was so handsome, even more perfect than the prince she had fantasized about.
Over the years, she had many suitors, but none met her standards. She'd rather be single than settle. Her future husband had to be someone like Caleb.
May's heart raced.
"Sorry to trouble you so late."
"You're welcome," Caleb replied indifferently.
"You're so kind. Have you trained before? Your skills are impressive."
"I've trained in boxing," Caleb said briefly. He didn't want to talk much with May. He only answered because of Susan; otherwise, he wouldn't have bothered. No, he wouldn't even have saved her.
He had boundless passion for the woman he loved, but for others, he kept his words to a minimum.
But May, feeling warm and excited, didn't notice Caleb's cold tone. She found his concise manner even more appealing. A mature man should be like this—speaking little but to the point, and his voice was very pleasant.
"Do you like Echo Harmony's music?" May pretended to be a fan, though she didn't really understand it. "I've liked it since middle school..."
"Susan likes it."
Caleb's words left May disappointed.
Damn it, Susan again.
But because Susan liked Echo's music, she knew it was his piano piece.
May said, "Oh, she plays the piano, so it's normal for her to like it. But I prefer classical instruments. I'm pretty good at the violin. I can play for you sometime."
She looked at him expectantly.
Caleb, sensing her intentions, stared straight ahead without speaking.
With her leg injured, Caleb had to carry her upstairs.
This was May's single apartment.
As they entered, May casually said, "I live alone. Besides my dad, you're the first man to come here. These slippers are for my dad." She didn't want him to misunderstand.
But in reality, she brought different men home almost every month. As a woman, she had normal needs.
Caleb pretended not to hear, carrying her into the room.
As he laid her on the bed, May almost couldn't resist pulling him down with her. His chest was so strong and powerful; he must be very strong in bed too, making her heart race and her body heat up.
"Get some rest."
"Caleb..." May grabbed his hand. "My leg is injured. Can you help me treat it? I'm afraid it will get infected."
"Your leg wound isn't serious," Caleb said flatly. He knew what she was up to and didn't want to play along.
"But I scar and get infections easily. I often have to wear dresses for performances, and scars on my legs wouldn't look good. Please..."
With her pleading, Caleb couldn't refuse and went to the living room to get the first aid kit.
"I get dizzy at the sight of blood. Please help me apply the medicine."
Caleb, barely holding onto his patience, sat down and grabbed her leg.
May felt a jolt of electricity through her body, trembling and heating up.
His hands were so big, his palms so strong, full of masculine power, almost melting her. He was so charming!
May's gaze was intense, but Caleb didn't even look at her.
"Did Susan say something to you? Do you hate me?"
"No."
"She must have. You don't even want to look at me. Did Susan tell you about what happened during the day? Do you also think I'm heartless, deliberately preventing my dad from having surgery? I'm really innocent, being misunderstood and treated as a villain for doing good," May said, looking aggrieved.
"Susan hasn't been home for years, and Dad has become even more stubborn. Of course, I want him to have the surgery and recover quickly, but if he accepts your kindness, he'll always feel uneasy about it."
"I know Susan means well, but she's only thinking from her own perspective, being one-sided. She doesn't consider things as thoroughly as I do. I'm completely considering things from Dad's perspective. I'm trying to do the right thing, but now I'm in this awkward spot. Don't you think I'm being wronged?"
