Chapter 506 The Happiness You Could Feel
Susan's resistance was fading, her voice shaky, "Caleb... quit kissing me."
Her neck was her weak spot, and Caleb knew it all too well. "You sure you don't want this? I know you dig it..."
"No, stop!" Susan's tiny hands tried to push him away. "I'm sore all over. I'm gonna collapse, slow down... we've got all the time in the world."
Time stretched ahead, full of hope and anticipation.
Caleb sucked hard on her neck. "Alright, we've got all the time."
Susan secretly sighed in relief and moved to clean up the dishes, but Caleb beat her to it.
Susan said, "I'll do it. Do you even know how to wash dishes?"
"I can make sunny-side-up eggs, you think I can't handle a dish?" Caleb raised an eyebrow, looking all smug.
Susan was both amused and annoyed. "You take pride in making an egg."
"I've got more to be proud of," Caleb said with a smirk.
Susan blushed. "You are really..." She didn't finish, thinking, 'You're always teasing me.'
"Really what?" Caleb asked, all innocent.
"Nothing." Susan rolled her eyes at him.
"We've got a few hours, what do you wanna do?" Caleb asked after cleaning up the dishes.
"Look at some recent company docs. Now that my dad's out of the hospital, I'm planning to go back to work next week." Susan was already at her desk, opening her laptop.
Caleb dried his hands and walked over, leaning on her desk, staring at the screen, and kissed her. "That's good. We can see each other at the office every day."
Susan reminded him, "Just so you know, even if we see each other, you can't let anyone know you know me."
Caleb asked, "Why? Is it embarrassing to know you?"
Susan nodded and joked, "You're a cheating douchebag now. If people know I'm with you, my rep will tank."
Caleb wasn't mad. Her joking about it showed she didn't care anymore.
He played along, "I'll definitely drag you down with me."
"You dare?" Susan raised her tiny fist in a mock threat.
Caleb took her hand and kissed it. "Silly girl."
Susan shivered, realizing she had no defense against those two words. Maybe she'd been too strong for too long, lacking affection. What woman didn't want to be pampered by the guy she liked?
Susan's heart stirred. 'The guy I like?'
Yeah, she liked him. When she looked at Caleb, she felt genuinely happy. She loved these moments and hoped they could last.
Being comfy, happy, and looking forward to the future together, feeling at peace, was truly rare.
Caleb could feel the happiness too and knew she loved him.
Love sometimes didn't need words; a look could say it all. His heart was fuller than ever.
"I need to start working, move away." Susan pushed him.
"I'm not stopping you from working, go ahead, I'll watch." Caleb retorted.
"How can I work with you staring at me?" Susan asked.
"Why not? It doesn't affect anything." Caleb replied.
"It does. You're not my boss." Susan retorted.
Caleb said, "Technically, I am your boss."
Susan shook her head. "I'm an employee of the Holland Group."
Caleb explained, "But you're handling the Holland Group and the Eilish Group's collab project, and you're working at the Eilish Group. Part of your paycheck comes from me. So, for the Eilish Group, I gotta keep an eye on you."
Susan couldn't help but laugh, "What? Afraid I'm a corporate spy?"
Caleb nodded seriously. "It's a possibility. Beautiful women have a high probability of being corporate spies."
Was that a compliment or an insult?
But considering his good taste, Susan decided not to argue with him. "Go do your work, I really need to start looking at these documents."
"Alright." Caleb kissed her lips and obediently sat aside, replying to emails on his phone.
Susan buried herself in the documents. After a while, a glass of water appeared by her hand, and she took a sip.
A little later, a plate of sliced apples appeared out of nowhere.
"Where did the apples come from?" Susan asked casually, still looking at the screen.
"Just went downstairs to buy them," Caleb replied.
Caleb used a fork to feed her piece by piece.
"So sweet..."
Caleb pecked her lips and smiled, "Yes, very sweet."
She was sweeter than any fruit in the world.
When Susan stretched lazily after getting tired, a delicious aroma wafted over.
Turning around, she saw the table full of dishes.
"Wow! When did you make these?" Susan's eyes lit up. She had eaten little for breakfast and was now a bit hungry, her stomach growling.
"Ordered takeout. I was going to cook, but I didn't want to disturb you while you were looking at documents."
Susan walked over and opened the fridge. What was once empty, with only two bottles of water, was now full with one shelf of fruits, one of cakes, and one of vegetables.
Susan was surprised. "Oh my god, when did you secretly move the supermarket here?"
She was very sensitive to sounds, but she hadn't heard anything, showing how quietly he had moved.
Susan was touched by his thoughtfulness.
"Is that look because you love me more?" Caleb teased.
"No. I just think you have potential to be a chef. How about this, I'll earn the money, and you cook at home," Susan replied.
"Looks like you've already planned our married life." Caleb seemed very happy.
Susan was taken aback. 'What am I saying? We aren't even married.'
Susan explained, "I was just saying, complimenting your domestic skills, nothing more."
"But I took it seriously," Caleb retorted.
"Don't take it seriously!"
"I already did. And I've adjusted my plan. After we're married, I'll both earn the money and cook and clean," Caleb argued.
"Sounds good." Susan put a piece of beef in her mouth and blinked. "So I just need to use your credit card?"
"In your dreams." Caleb wrapped his arm around her waist, bit her little ear, and whispered, "You need to serve me in bed."
Susan spat at him. "Shameless!"
"I can be even more shameless, want to know?" Caleb teased.
"Alright, stop talking. Let's eat, I'm starving." It had been too long since Susan worked, and she wasn't used to it. Just two hours of looking at documents had drained her brain, making her dizzy and hungry.
Caleb pulled out a chair. "Alright, let's serve the queen her meal."
The queen.
Susan was invigorated. It felt like a very accurate description.
She used to be a weak little princess, but now she had become a strong and independent queen!
