Chapter 474 Announcing the Divorce
Susan woke up groggy, feeling like someone was watching her.
She looked up and saw Oliver's bright, dark eyes. Oliver was smiling, both brightly and subtly.
"Good morning, Mommy."
"Oliver? What are you doing here?" Susan rubbed her eyes.
"Uncle Caleb sent a bodyguard to bring me over," Oliver giggled, covering her mouth.
That smile seemed off.
Susan then realized she had fallen asleep in Caleb's arms. One of his big hands was still around her shoulder.
They had fallen asleep hugging on the couch last night!
Startled, Susan tried to get up, but Caleb still held onto her.
She was anxious and annoyed, her face turning red.
"Caleb, let go."
"Caleb, wake up."
"Caleb."
She kept urging him.
Seeing them so close in front of Oliver, Susan wished she could disappear.
Was Caleb in such a deep sleep? He didn't react at all.
Caleb's lips curled up slightly.
"Caleb..."
Just as Susan was about to hit him in frustration, Caleb pretended to wake up slowly. "What's wrong?"
Susan finally broke free, awkwardly tidying her hair. She couldn't think of a reason to scold him, so she picked one randomly. "Who told you to bring Oliver over?"
"And you sent a bodyguard. What if it was a bad person?"
"Oliver, didn't Mommy tell you not to go with strangers?"
"Mommy, I'm not that stupid. I've seen that bodyguard several times."
"Even if you've seen him several times, he could still be bribed." Susan scolded Caleb, "If anything happened to Oliver, could you take responsibility? How can you be so irresponsible?"
Susan's barrage of criticism made Caleb realize one thing: when a woman wanted to scold you, she'd find a reason, right or wrong.
He felt both helpless and happy to be scolded by her.
At least he still mattered to her. Her previous cold attitude had hurt him the most.
"Yes, I didn't think it through."
"Of course, and you still have the nerve to smile?" Susan was genuinely a bit angry now.
Oliver watched with amusement. Her daddy, such a powerful man, had met his match—her mommy. Mommy was so amazing she could even control daddy.
"I'm not smiling."
"You are smiling."
"I'll go get breakfast for you two." Caleb surrendered.
"Don't fight me for the bathroom; I'm going first." Susan glared at him. It was all his fault for holding her all night; she was really uncomfortable now.
"Alright, ladies first." Caleb made a gentlemanly gesture.
Susan didn't like his playful attitude. She was seriously angry, not joking.
"Uncle Caleb, Mommy really dislikes you," Oliver said gleefully once Susan was in the bathroom.
"A woman's dislike is just another form of affection." Caleb's lips curled up.
"Uncle Caleb, I think you're overthinking it." Oliver didn't hold back. Even daddy was this narcissistic too.
"Oliver, I now have the right to pursue your mommy as a single man." Caleb didn't mention the word "divorce," but smart as Oliver was, she immediately understood.
A hint of joy appeared in his eyes.
Great, daddy was finally separated from that bad woman, and mommy wouldn't be bullied by her anymore.
"But Uncle Caleb, don't you still have another daughter?"
"Yes, I have custody of her, so..."
Oliver got what he meant and puffed out her chest, promising, "Don't worry, Uncle Caleb, I'll take good care of my sister."
Caleb was touched by Oliver's maturity and patted her shoulder. "I believe in you!"
Oliver was more responsible than he was!
"Uncle Caleb, I'll call you daddy when you marry mommy. Just make sure to make mommy happy."
"I will. Her happiness is my greatest wish."
In the afternoon, Susan finished replying to company emails and started browsing Facebook.
"The Eilish Group officially announces that Vice President Caleb and Grace from the Bailey Group have ended their four-year marriage" caught Susan's eye.
The announcement, made by the Eilish Group's PR team, didn't explain the reason, just stating the divorce was official and Caleb had custody.
Facebook was buzzing, with comments quickly surpassing a hundred thousand.
[Does a man who commits domestic violence still have the right to divorce? The right to custody???]
[These days, money really can do anything. So shameless!]
[Why does an abusive douchebag get custody? He doesn't deserve it!]
[Congratulations on the divorce, stay away from domestic violence, cherish life.]
[Strongly oppose giving custody to Caleb!]
Susan thought they were just blind followers online.
Timid in real life but bold online, they didn't care about the truth; they just wanted to vent. That's why whenever a celebrity scandal broke, netizens were filled with righteous indignation and curses.
Susan didn't care much about online violence, but it would inevitably affect the Eilish Group's stock price.
She was more worried about Grace's retaliation.
As she feared, within two hours, Grace held a press conference.
The venue was packed with reporters. Grace had lost a lot of weight, was makeup-free, looked haggard, and had injuries on her face.
"Ms. Bailey, are the injuries on your face caused by Mr. Eilish?" a reporter asked.
"Yes, it was him. Yesterday, I refused to divorce, and he beat me up, forcing me to sign. The divorce agreement wasn't signed voluntarily; his assistant held my hand to sign it. I swear..."
Grace cried pitifully. "I really love him. For the sake of our daughter having a complete family, I endured and tried to forgive him, hoping he would return to the family, but his violence kept escalating. He not only hit me but also our daughter."
"I held this press conference to expose his true nature, to reveal the truth behind his forcing me to divorce, to seek justice for myself, and to regain custody of my daughter."
"For the sake of his mistress, he has become a monster. My daughter will be beaten to death by him. I beg you to help me, help my daughter."
Grace's face was full of tears, and many reporters sympathized with her.
Susan watched the poor performance, feeling like she had swallowed a fly.
Grace knew no one could do anything to Caleb. She was just trying to make a big scene, ruin Caleb's reputation, and severely impact the Eilish Group's stock price.
She was willing to do whatever it took.
But knowing Caleb, he would never expose Grace's infidelity for Candy's sake.
Grace had gone mad, using Candy as a tool, while Caleb genuinely loved his daughter and considered her well-being.
Midway through the press conference, a group of bodyguards suddenly rushed in, dispersing the reporters, causing chaos.
