Chapter 442 Terrified All Over
Layla was stunned. "What did you just call me?"
Slut?
She hadn't misheard. Brian had actually used that filthy word to insult her.
Her face flushed, anger flaring in her eyes.
But then Brian's expression shifted, his anger vanishing as he slipped back into his usual gentle demeanor. "What did I say? I didn't say anything."
"Your milk." He handed it to her again, stepping even closer.
Layla recoiled, gripping the counter with both hands, feeling trapped.
"Layla... Mr. Evans." Luna's sudden appearance made the situation even more awkward. She stood there, unsure whether to leave or stay.
Layla quickly pushed Brian away and stormed off, her face dark with anger.
Brian looked down at the milk, a dangerous glint in his eyes. His pupils narrowed, and he clenched the glass tightly.
"What's going on between you and Mr. Evans?" Luna asked quietly as they walked.
"Nothing."
"Was he trying to kiss you just now?"
"No."
"But—"
"Stop asking so many questions," Layla snapped, irritated. She was furious with Brian, suspecting he was mentally unstable, his demeanor changing so quickly like he had a split personality.
Luna stuck out her tongue.
"Let's get back to yesterday's project," Layla said, grabbing the documents.
"Send the Eastwind Project materials to my office," Brian said, tapping the table with a smile.
Layla frowned. Brian's smile now filled her with fear and disgust.
"Why are you just standing there? Mr. Evans asked you to send the materials," Luna urged, tugging at her sleeve.
Layla handed them to her. "You take them in."
"Me?" Luna pointed at herself, hesitant. "Mr. Evans asked you to send them."
"Please, do me a favor."
"Fine," Luna agreed reluctantly but returned after just a minute. "Mr. Evans wants you to deliver them personally."
Layla was beyond annoyed.
If these designs weren't her own hard work, she would have left without a second thought. Can he truly take legal action against her?
She grabbed the materials and walked in without knocking, placed them on the table, and turned to leave.
"I haven't looked at the materials yet. Why are you in such a hurry to leave?" Brian said leisurely, picking up the documents. "If there's something I don't understand, I need to ask you."
"I already handed the data to Luna yesterday. If you have any questions, ask her."
"This project was started by you, so you naturally understand it best. Why should I ask someone else?"
"Because I've already resigned," Layla said coldly, showing no kindness.
Brian raised two fingers, reminding her again. "22 days."
Layla wanted to scream. 'To hell with his 22 days, he was just being selfish and causing trouble.'
"In any case, I'll leave as soon as I finish the handover, not a second longer."
"Is your boyfriend that controlling?" Brian chuckled.
Layla went silent, clearly sick of seeing him.
At first, she never expected him to turn out like this.
Friends? No, she didn't want that at all now. She hoped never to see him again in this life.
"Do you hate me?"
Layla didn't answer, but her expression said it all.
"Indeed, it's hard to be a good person," Brian sighed dramatically, as if feeling wronged.
"Please, don't be that 'good person.'"
"But I want to be good to you. I don't want you to hurt yourself."
Here we go again.
What she hated most was him acting like her savior when he was actually delusional.
This time, Layla didn't hold back. She rolled her eyes and let out a cold laugh.
Brian wasn't angry. Instead, he smiled and shook his head regretfully. "You're becoming more and more irrational."
"The irrational one is you, thinking you're a savior. I don't need saving. This is harassment, seriously affecting my life. Brian, I suggest you see a psychologist."
"Are you saying I have a mental problem?"
"Yes."
Delusions, fantasies, and split personality.
"The clearest-minded people are often seen as crazy. Your mind is being controlled, I don't blame you. Accompany me to meet a client this afternoon."
"I refuse."
"Not going?" Brian raised an eyebrow.
"Nope. This is just an excuse, I don't want to play along."
"You're overthinking it. This is work. Asan employee, you must accept tasks assigned by your superior. That's settled." Not giving her a chance to refuse, Brian said, "You can leave now."
Layla was shocked and rolled her eyes at the ceiling once again. She felt like she couldn't handle the last few days anymore.
At lunchtime, when Layla came to her senses, she found herself surrounded by a group of female colleagues in the cafeteria.
"Layla, why aren't you eating? No appetite?"
"Not really."
"Is it because of Mr. Evans?"
Layla felt like she had swallowed a fly. They started again, and this curiosity only made her mood worse.
She didn't answer, and the others continued talking, "Mr. Evans has been acting strange lately, his personality has changed."
"Yeah, he used to be so serious every day, never smiling, but recently he's been smiling a lot. But that smile... how to say it."
"It feels weird."
"Right, that's the feeling. Can't pinpoint what's wrong, but something is off."
"And Layla, you must have noticed Mr. Evans being particularly attentive to you lately? He's openly pursuing you."
"Can we not talk about him?" Layla was annoyed just hearing his name.
Finally, she didn't have to see that face, but she couldn't escape their discussions.
"Sorry, we were just curious."
"Do you kind of dislike Mr. Evans? Having such an excellent suitor isn't a good thing?"
"Yeah, we're so envious."
Layla wanted to say, whoever envies can have him, she didn't want him.
"I'm done eating."
"You only took a couple of bites, you haven't finished yet."
"Layla?"
As soon as she left, they started whispering, "Is she angry again?"
"Obviously, didn't you see how bad her face looked?"
"Mr. Evans is pursuing her and she's not happy, what is she thinking? Mr. Evans is so great, I'd be over the moon."
"We haven't been pursued by so many men, how would we know what she's thinking? Having too many suitors can be a burden too."
"Really envious."
"You've said that a hundred times."
"She has endless suitors, all falling for her, even Mr. Evans is no exception."
In the afternoon.
Layla was organizing materials.
Brian's figure stopped in front of her. "Let's go."
Everyone in the office was secretly watching them.
Layla didn't want to go, but in this situation, she couldn't say no. Silently, she picked up the client materials and left the company with Brian.
