Chapter 618: A Lifetime of Peace and Joy

"You think you're not a handful? You're just a little troublemaker," Samuel chuckled.

Layla thought about it and realized he might be right. During her pregnancy, her mood swings were wild—crying one minute, laughing the next, and making all sorts of crazy demands. But Samuel never lost his cool, not even once, and never showed any frustration.

Looking back, it was hard to believe he put up with her for a whole six months.

Layla suddenly felt a pang of guilt. "I'm sorry, I've been such a drama queen. It must've been tough on you."

"Tough? Nah, not at all."

"How could it not be? I was so demanding every day, and if you didn't meet them right away, I'd throw a fit and cry. Sometimes I couldn't sleep and would wake you up in the middle of the night just to talk, but you never complained."

"Silly, if this is tough, isn't pregnancy even tougher for you? I don't feel tired at all. Sometimes I just feel bad for you and wish I could share the load," Samuel sighed.

Layla felt a lump in her throat. "Babe, why are you so good to me?"

"About to cry again? Silly," Samuel gently tapped her nose. "Don't cry so much, or your eyes will get all puffy. You'll be less pretty."

Layla sniffled. "I'm already chubby and not pretty."

"Who says that? My wife is the prettiest, a beautiful angel," Samuel kissed her tears away. "After the baby is born, I'll give you a grand wedding so everyone can see how beautiful my wife is."

"Okay." Layla perked up. "I'll make sure to exercise and get back in shape."

"Good. Now let's take a nice walk for another half hour."

"Okay, okay." Layla nodded obediently and let him support her as they walked back and forth slowly.

As they walked, Layla suddenly felt very wet below and heard the sound of water dripping. She looked down and called out nervously, "Babe, my water broke."

That night, at the hospital.

Samuel paced anxiously back and forth outside the delivery room, pulling at his hair.

He had never felt so nervous in his life, worrying about both the baby and Layla.

These were the longest hours of his life.

"It's done, it's done," A nurse came out happily. "Mr. Holland, Mrs. Holland has given birth to a pair of boy-girl twins."

"Boy-girl twins?" Samuel was over the moon.

"Yes, didn't the doctor tell you during the check-up? It's a boy and a girl."

Samuel was too thrilled to know what to say.

He hurried into the room where the nurse was holding the two babies, but Samuel went straight to Layla first. "Are you okay?"

Layla was exhausted, her pale skin covered in sweat, breathing heavily. "I'm okay, just a bit tired... Where are the babies? We had two."

"Yes, a boy and a girl."

"A pair of boy-girl twins." Layla was overjoyed. "Quick, let me see them."

"Okay," Samuel first held their son. "This is our son. He was born first."

"Mr. Holland, the baby is so cute. It's rare for a newborn to be so pretty. He'll definitely be a heartbreaker in the future."

"His nose looks like yours, so handsome." Layla's tired face lit up with a happy smile. "He can take care of his sister in the future..."

"Yes." Samuel then held their daughter. "This is our daughter. She looks like you, with a small nose and small mouth."

"Yes, she looks just like my baby photos. One looks like me, and the other looks like you. How wonderful..." Layla murmured.

"Yes, you've worked hard. Babe, thank you for giving us such adorable kids."

"It was hard, but worth it."

Layla never thought she'd be a mom so soon, worried she wouldn't be up to the task. But right now, looking at her two little munchkins, she felt all the mom vibes kicking in. She was so emotional she almost wanted to cry along with them.

Layla stayed in the hospital for a week. Samuel put his work on hold to be by her side every day, feeding her, taking care of the babies, and handling every little detail.

At three in the morning, Layla finished feeding the babies and was about to pass out from exhaustion.

They say the first month after giving birth is the hardest for new moms. Even with Samuel, a bunch of nannies, and caregivers, Layla still felt wiped out.

She was super tired but kept her eyes open, staring blankly.

"Not sleeping?" Samuel asked gently, holding Layla in his arms, his voice as soft as a lullaby.

"I'm so tired but can't sleep."

"How about some chicken soup to boost your milk?"

"Okay."

Samuel got up and fed her the soup, blowing on each spoonful to cool it down.

"You've worked hard too," Layla said, noticing the dark circles under his eyes and feeling a pang of heartache.

"I'm not tired. You're the one who's tired."

"Yeah, it's okay during the day, but getting up at night is rough. But the babies are pretty good. I've heard some babies cry all night, which is really tough."

"Yeah."

After finishing the bowl of chicken soup, Layla said, "I want to check on the babies."

"I'll bring them over."

Layla shook her head. "No need, I've been lying down all day. It's good to get up and move around."

Samuel helped her up.

In the two small cribs, the boy and girl were sleeping soundly. In just a week, they had grown a lot, their faces chubby and adorable.

Layla's heart melted. "They're so cute, like little angels."

Samuel smiled. "They're little angels when they're sleeping, but one of them is a little devil when awake."

"You're talking about our daughter," Layla teased. "She's quite the crier, but girls are naturally more delicate. Our son has only cried a few times since birth; he's so well-behaved."

"Of course, he's my son," Samuel said proudly. "I didn't cry much as a baby either."

"Yeah, yeah, you were a good baby too." Layla laughed and patted his head. "Have you thought of names?"

"Yep, our daughter will be Serena Holland. I hope she lives a life of peace and joy, carefree," With him as her dad, it was inevitable she'd have a joyful life.

"Our son will be Maverick Holland, to ride the waves and forge ahead," Samuel continued.

"Serena and Maverick," Layla murmured, her eyes lighting up. "Those are great names."

"Of course, I picked them."

"I've noticed you're getting more and more proud since becoming a dad."

"Yep. Having such a lovely wife and two adorable kids is my greatest pride," Samuel kissed her forehead.

Looking at their sleeping faces, Layla couldn't help but say, "I hope they grow up slowly, and I age slowly too, so I can spend more time with them."

"Life is really amazing, isn't it? They'll grow up, have their own thoughts, their own lives. I wonder what kind of people they'll meet and what will happen to them." The thought was full of anticipation and curiosity.

"You're only 22, your life is still so long, and you're already thinking about the babies' lives?"

Layla squinted and smiled. "Yeah, I guess I'm thinking too far ahead."

"You brought them into this world, but their lives are their own. I believe they'll grow up healthy and live a life full of joy."

"Yeah," Layla's hand gently rested on Samuel's hand, which was on her shoulder. Her smile was full of warmth and hope.

Layla thought, 'Babies, I hope you will have a lifetime of happiness, peace, and joy.'
