Chapter 582: I Don't Want Daddy

Grace and Candy spent the whole day at the amusement park, having a blast.

"Look at you, all sweaty from playing," Grace said with a loving smile, wiping Candy's face with a tissue.

"I haven't been to the amusement park for a while, and it's so much fun with you, Mommy. It'd be even better if Daddy were here. Do you think we can come here together, just the three of us, like before?" Candy asked, hopefully.

"I want that too, but Susan wouldn't be happy. We gotta think about her feelings."

"Mommy, you're always so nice, thinking about Susan. It's not fair to you."

"I don't have a choice. Your daddy only listens to Susan. If she gets mad and doesn't let him bring you to see me, then I wouldn't get to see you, Candy."

"That won't happen. Daddy listens to me just as much as he listens to Susan. If he doesn't let me see you, I'll make a fuss. I'll definitely see you, Mommy."

"Really?" Grace asked, touched. "But I'm worried that if you don't see me for a long time, you'll start to regard Susan as your mommy and forget about me."

"That'll never happen. You're my only one mommy."

"Good girl!" Grace patted Candy's face.

"Mommy, I'll try to make sure we can come here together with Daddy next time."

"Alright, then you have to work hard."

"Mm-hmm." Candy nodded eagerly.

They had just left the amusement park.

"Mommy, Mommy, it's Daddy!" Candy exclaimed with excitement. "Daddy, you came to pick us up!"

Candy ran into Caleb's arms, and he picked her up, "Did you have fun today?"

"Yeah, it was awesome. How could it not be fun with Mommy? But we missed you, Daddy. Can we come to the amusement park together next time?" Candy asked, seizing the moment.

"We'll see."

"No, I wanna come. Why do we have to wait? Daddy, please say yes."

"Candy, don't pester your daddy," Grace said.

Caleb put Candy in the car first.

"Did you do it on purpose today?" Caleb questioned.

"Do what on purpose? Are you talking about the car thing? Caleb, you really misunderstood me. I explained to Susan that she was about to hit someone, so I wanted to turn the steering wheel quickly. I admit it was wrong, but my mind went blank at that moment. I was just scared of hitting someone," Grace answered.

"You're lying. Susan always drives slowly, especially with two kids in the car. She couldn't have been so careless."

"She wasn't driving fast, but she was distracted."

"Impossible!"

"You don't believe me? Then why do you think I did it on purpose? Do you think I wanted all four of us to get into an accident? Candy is my daughter. I would use my life to protect her and never let her get hurt."

"Maybe you've gone mad," Caleb said coldly, narrowing his eyes.

"No, I haven't. It's you who thinks the worst of me," Grace shook her head. "No matter what I do, you don't believe me. Just like last time when we were photographed, you thought I called the reporter, but it turned out it wasn't me. So this time, it was also unintentional. Why do you have to think so badly of me?"

"You know what's up. I'm warning you, this is your last shot. You better straighten up. If you mess with Susan or Oliver, you won't see Candy again."

As soon as Caleb finished, Grace dropped to her knees, crying, "Caleb, please, don't take Candy away from me."

Caleb frowned; Grace was way too emotional.

"It's my fault. I shouldn't have crossed Susan. It's all on me. Just don't take Candy away from me, Caleb..." Grace kept pleading.

"Get up."

"Promise me. I can't lose Candy... Caleb, please..." Grace cried, her sobs drawing the attention of passersby.

"Mommy!" Candy jumped out of the car and pushed Caleb away. "Mommy, get up."

Grace held Candy tightly, "Caleb, please don't separate me from my daughter. I won't dare to cross Susan again..."

Candy turned angrily. "Daddy, you're bullying Mommy again!"

"I'm not," Caleb replied.

"Mommy is kneeling, and you say you're not? Today's mess wasn't Mommy's fault; it was Susan's. She yelled at Mommy. It was her fault. Why don't you blame her instead of Mommy?"

"Candy..." Caleb didn't know how to explain the complexities of adult relationships to her.

"Daddy, if you bully Mommy again, I won't want you anymore!"

Caleb frowned.

Candy's eyes reddened. "You already have Susan and Oliver, but Mommy is all alone. She's so pitiful. Maybe I'm just extra; I'll go stay with Mommy."

"Candy, you're my daughter!" Caleb would never give Candy to Grace. He didn't trust her and couldn't bear to part with Candy.

"But I'm also Mommy's daughter. Daddy already has someone else, maybe you don't care about me as much."

"Candy..."

"I want to stay with Mommy for a few days. Daddy, don't bother us."

"Candy..." Caleb felt powerless. Being resented by his daughter felt like a knife to his heart.

"Mommy, I'm going home with you."

"Mm-hmm." Grace wiped her tears. "Let's go home."

"I'll take you," Caleb said helplessly.

"No need, go find Susan and Oliver. We'll go back ourselves," Candy stood on tiptoe, hailing a taxi. "Mommy, let's go home."

Grace got in the car and gave Caleb a strange smile, but the smile disappeared so quickly that Caleb wasn't sure if he had imagined it. He suddenly felt a chill in his heart.

The Bailey family mansion.

"Candy?" Trevor and Avery were surprised to see Candy.

"Did you go to see Caleb?" They asked Grace.

"Yeah." Grace nodded.

Trevor and Avery looked horrified.

"Grandpa, grandma, I missed you so much. Did you miss me?" Candy asked sweetly. "What's wrong? Aren't you happy to see me?"

"Of course, we're happy." Avery forced a smile. How could they be truly happy?

Avery had a servant take Candy for a bath.

"What's going on? Didn't you say you were spending the weekends with friends? Why did you bring Candy back?"

"I lied to you. I've been seeing Candy every weekend. Those times, I was with Caleb and Susan."

"You're crazy!" Trevor slammed the table and stood up. "I've warned you many times to stay away from Caleb, to pretend you don't know him, to act like you never had Candy. Why do you insist on going your own way? Do you want to see the entire Bailey family destroyed before you're satisfied?"
