Chapter 540 You All Belong to Me
"Thanks, Susan. Seriously, thanks for letting go of the past and coming back to me. It's like you've given me a whole new life." Caleb's eyes were full of love.
Susan's nose tingled, and she grinned. "A new life? That's kinda over the top."
"No way, it's not over the top at all. You are my life. Without you, I'm nothing. Susan, I really love you." Caleb leaned in and kissed her.
For the first time, Susan let everything go and kissed him back.
She finally stepped out of the shadows of the past and fully embraced Caleb again.
It was tough for her to move on, but once she did, the past couldn't touch her anymore.
From now on, in this relationship, she was the new Susan, and he was the new Caleb. Everything was a fresh start.
After their passionate kiss, they pressed their foreheads together and laughed. They felt so at ease.
"You goof."
"You're the goof." Caleb nibbled her lip, "My little goof."
"This ring, I..."
"I get it, I'll wait until you're really ready to wear it." Caleb cut in.
"Okay, thanks for waiting."
Their hearts were totally in sync, no walls between them.
Hand in hand, they walked downstairs. Standing in the middle of the stairs, Caleb shouted, "Listen up, everyone! From now on, I'm Susan's boyfriend. Susan is my girlfriend."
They had made up. May felt a pang of bitterness, still a bit uneasy.
But Caleb clearly wasn't interested in her, so she had to hold on to her current happiness. Marrying Tyler wasn't bad; she wouldn't think about anything else.
Pushing down her discomfort, May stood up and congratulated them, "That's awesome, congrats!"
"Yeah." Tyler put his arm around May's shoulder. "How about we have a joint wedding?"
Susan quickly waved her hand. "You guys go ahead, we're not in a rush."
"Wouldn't it be cool to hurry?" Caleb lowered his head, his nose brushing her ear. "How about a double wedding?"
"Caleb." Susan was both amused and annoyed. "I just agreed to be with you, don't push it, or I..."
"Okay, my bad. I'm already super happy now, my dear girlfriend."
Susan pinched his cheek.
The next evening, they went home to officially meet the parents.
Carol saw them holding hands and smiled. Susan had found the right guy, so the weight on Carol's heart was finally lifted.
Michael was good, but Carol preferred Caleb. It wasn't about the Eilish family's status; as a mom, she wanted Susan to choose a man she loved. After all, marriage was a lifelong thing, and only with someone she loved could she be happy.
Maurice said seriously, "Since you're together, be good to each other. Respect and cherish each other. Caleb, Susan is my precious girl. She's been through a lot, and I won't let anyone hurt her again. Even though the Eilish family is powerful, if you wrong my daughter, I'll fight you with everything I've got."
"Dad..." Susan was super touched.
"Don't sweat it, Mr. Wilson. Susan's your precious girl, and she's mine too. I love her to bits; no way I'd let her suffer even a little." Caleb grinned. "Honestly, it's a miracle she doesn't bully me."
Susan playfully scowled, "When have I ever bullied you?"
"Even if you did, I'd be cool with it."
"Smooth talker." Susan chuckled.
"Caleb, you haven't got my approval yet." Oliver crossed his arms, looking all serious, staring Caleb down.
"I'm your dad, but you can't disapprove? What? You looking down on your old man?" Caleb asked, amused.
Oliver shot back, "I love Mom the most, so no one can mess with her, not even you."
"Don't you see it's your mom who's messing with me?"
Oliver retorted, "If Mom's messing with you, you probably deserved it. Mom's always right."
Susan was getting all teary-eyed. Oliver was just too sweet.
"You only love your mom!" Caleb shook his head. "Don't worry, I won't let her suffer. From now on, there's one more person to protect your mom."
"Are you gonna compete with me for Mom's love?" Oliver asked.
Caleb pulled Susan close and said proudly, "Your mom's mine, no need to compete. From now on, I'm number one in her heart."
"Mom—" Oliver looked at Susan with puppy eyes.
Susan's heart melted, and she quickly pushed Caleb's hand away. "Oliver, don't listen to him. You're number one in Mom's heart."
"Yeah, Mom loves me the most. Hug me." Oliver replied.
"Okay." Susan quickly embraced Oliver.
Oliver hugged Susan's neck affectionately and shot Caleb a triumphant look, like, "See, Mom loves me the most. I'm number one in her heart."
"You little rascal. He's faking it. Look..." Caleb wanted to call Oliver out.
But Oliver immediately looked at Susan with big, innocent eyes and said in a sweet voice, "Mom, Caleb's lying about me. I'm the best behaved."
Susan's heart melted, and she nodded quickly. "Yes, our Oliver is the best behaved in the world. Caleb, you're an adult, but you're picking on our son. Aren't you ashamed?"
"How am I picking on him? He's clearly picking on me." Caleb retorted.
"I didn't, I'm Mom's good boy." Oliver made a face at Caleb.
Caleb was both amused and exasperated. He knew his place in the family: Susan first, Oliver second, and he was at the bottom, firmly under their thumbs.
And it felt so good.
Why did it sound a bit masochistic?
But being able to marry the woman he loved and have kids, he must be the happiest guy in the world.
So even if he was picked on, he was happy.
"Okay, you're a good boy. Now that I'm with your mom, shouldn't you start calling me Dad?" Caleb had been dying to hear "Dad" for ages.
"Not yet. When you marry Mom, then I'll call you Dad." Oliver shot back.
"Your mom's already my girlfriend, isn't that enough?"
Oliver shook his head. "Nope, my mom's so beautiful, maybe a better guy will come along..."
"There's no guy better than me. Give it up, little dude." Caleb declared confidently, "You and your mom are mine for life, you can't escape!"
