Chapter 659 Continuous Stimulation
Anthony kept his back to them, refusing to even glance their way. He told himself it wasn't his problem. He'd said his piece and given all the warnings. If Juniper still thought that playboy was worth her time, then he was done wasting his breath.
But hearing Hera's words, he felt a little sting in his chest. He couldn't help but want to turn around.
'What's the deal? Juniper's got nothing to do with me,' Anthony thought.
"That guy really spoils Juniper," Hera said, a bit envious. Who wouldn't want to be pampered by someone they liked?
"No woman can resist that kind of attention," she added.
Anthony smirked. "It's just a scumbag's trick to reel her in."
Hera was taken aback. Anthony rarely judged others, let alone said something so harsh. Was he jealous?
She felt a pang of discomfort too. She took a sip of red wine to hide the bitterness at the corner of her mouth.
Two guys liked Juniper; she was really lucky.
Hera insisted, "Maybe he's genuinely into Juniper. You can't fake the way he looks at her; it's full of affection."
"Would a wolf not like meat?" Anthony shot back sarcastically.
Hera explained, "That's not just pure lust. Liking and lust are different..."
"I don't want to hear this," Anthony cut her off. "It's got nothing to do with me."
Hera pursed her lips.
She kept pushing him, just to see his reaction. Now her suspicion was confirmed. Anthony was really jealous over that woman.
He cared about her.
'Am I going to lose again?' Hera's smile grew even more bitter.
Juniper finished the last bite of her cake.
"Not even a bite for me? You're so heartless," Ronnie said, shaking his head in mock disappointment.
"If you want some, order your own. Does someone else's food taste better?" she teased.
"Not someone else's, yours tastes especially good."
His gaze was affectionate, which would have made other women swoon, but for Juniper, it only earned a straightforward, "Get lost."
Juniper stood up.
Ronnie grabbed her hand. "Are you mad? I didn't get any either."
"No, let go first. I ate too much and my stomach hurts," Juniper said, blushing. It was too embarrassing.
Ronnie laughed. "You're the first woman to overeat in front of me. So cute."
"I'm speechless with you," Juniper said.
'What's cute about having a stomachache? It's embarrassing, okay?' she thought.
"Let go," she shook off his hand and headed straight to the restroom.
A few minutes later, she came out.
"Damn bastard, making me eat so much. My stomach is killing me," Juniper muttered. She looked up and bumped into Anthony in the hallway. She called out, "Anthony..."
Their eyes met, but before she could say anything, Anthony walked past her without a glance, striding away.
He was cold as a gust of wind, not like the usual Anthony.
Normally, he didn't talk much but gave off a warm and pleasant vibe, not this cold expression.
Juniper bit her lip and watched his back. 'Is he angry?'
Sitting in the car, Juniper's mind kept replaying his cold face.
She felt like a kid who had done something wrong.
Juniper thought, 'But what have I done wrong? Isn't he the one bringing the alumni to the restaurant for a date?'
"I'm talking to you. Can't you hear?" Ronnie waved his hand in front of her eyes.
"What are you doing? You're so annoying," Juniper slapped his hand away.
"You dare call me annoying? Bold move, lady, not taking me seriously at all," Ronnie said, crossing his legs, his tone all flippant and teasing.
Juniper rolled her eyes. "You are annoying."
"Nonsense. I'm very aloof," Ronnie said, raising his head like he was some big shot.
"Aloof? You're just a clingy piece of gum. Don't think you're so charming; those women are just after your money. You're just a nuisance," Juniper shot back.
"Don't take your bad mood out on me. I'm not your punching bag. If you have the guts, go yell at him. You only dare to shout at me. Do I have 'easy to bully' written on my face?" Ronnie retorted.
"You bastard..."
Suddenly, Ronnie pulled her into his arms by the back of her head. "What are you doing? Let go," she said, struggling and glaring at him angrily.
Ronnie's face turned serious, a hint of danger in his eyes. "Do you think I'm easy to bully?"
"I..." She swallowed hard. Ronnie's sudden change in demeanor was a bit scary.
Ronnie was always playful, making her forget that he was actually a wolf, not a kitten.
"Calling me a bastard, do you know who you're messing with?" Ronnie raised an eyebrow, his expression sharp.
Juniper felt deflated, unable to argue. Her nose tingled, and she said plaintively, "Who's bullying you? You're the one bullying me now."
Her soft tone carried a hint of grievance and a sob.
"Don't act pitiful in front of me," Ronnie said, trying to stay firm.
"Who's acting? It's true. On the first day, you got me drunk and tried to assault me. Now you won't leave me alone, making people at the company gossip. They all think I'm trying to hook up with a rich guy. You've ruined my reputation. Yes, I like Anthony, but what's wrong with that? Is it a crime to like someone? Why won't you leave me alone? Is this a fun game for you? But I'm not your toy." She became more and more aggrieved, nearly sobbing by the end.
She looked pitiful, like a wronged child.
Ronnie's heart softened immediately.
He was never a kind person, always ruthless. Although he indulged her, there was a limit. He wouldn't let a woman cross his bottom line. If she really pushed him, he would force himself on her.
However, the usually ruthless Ronnie felt a pang of heartache looking at her tear-filled eyes. It was the first time he felt sorry for a woman. Juniper hadn't even cried, but her tearful look made him feel even more heartbroken.
"Stop pretending to be pitiful!" Ronnie said coldly.
"Do I need to pretend?" Juniper glared at him, a tear glistening in her eye. "You're so mean."
Her scolding words sounded like she was pouting, making Ronnie's heart deflate like a punctured balloon.
'Why am I arguing with a woman? Ridiculous,' Ronnie thought.
"I'm mean? You're the mean one. No woman has ever dared to throw a tantrum in front of me. Do I have no dignity?" Ronnie retorted.
"That's just how I am. If you want to be flattered, go find another woman. Why put up with me? I don't even want to," Juniper said, emboldened by his softened expression.
"Do you really hate me that much?"
Juniper nodded without hesitation.
"Do you have to be so blunt?" Ronnie felt a bit hurt. For the first time, he had feelings for a woman beyond lust, only to be hated to his face. His pride was a bit wounded.
"Just be honest. Ronnie, can you please let me go?" Juniper said, looking at him with hopeful eyes.
