Chapter 455 We're Going Home
"We're here," Aidan said, holding her hand tightly.
"I want Mommy... Grandpa, I want Mommy..." Oliver cried, looking at him with tearful eyes. "Grandpa..."
Aidan, despite his reluctance, couldn't resist her pleas. "Let her come over."
Half an hour later, Susan rushed in.
She went straight to the bed and took Oliver's hand from Aidan. "Oliver, Oliver?"
Aidan glared at Susan.
Oliver slowly opened her eyes. "Mom, Mommy..."
"Oliver, how are you?" Susan asked, tears streaming down her face.
"I'm fine now that I see you... Mommy, don't cry..." Oliver struggled to lift her hand to wipe Susan's tears.
"Oliver, I'm sorry, I didn't take good care of you..."
"Mommy is the best. I want to sleep for a while."
"Okay, rest well. When you get better, I'll take you home."
Oliver finally closed her eyes in peace.
"Alright, you can leave now," Aidan said coldly.
"Oliver is here, I'm not going anywhere," Susan said, glaring at Aidan.
"You..."
"Keep your voices down, don't disturb the child," Mia gestured. "If you have something to say, take it outside."
Leaving the doctor to care for Oliver, they exited the room.
"What did you do to my son? Why is he sick?" Susan demanded, her anger like a mother wolf ready to attack.
"What do you mean? Do you think I would harm him?" Aidan was furious. 'How dare she speak to me like that? I could crush her with a finger.'
Mia, feeling guilty, stammered, "We just wanted to treat him well, make sure he ate well. Who knew he would eat too much and get gastroenteritis? But the doctor said it's not serious."
"You were reckless! You fed him without knowing his condition. You made him sick."
"He's my grandson, I wouldn't harm him."
"You're arrogant, selfish, and stupid!" Susan retorted.
Aidan couldn't stand it and shouted, "Who do you think you are to lecture me? Butler, throw her out."
"She has to stay," Caleb stepped in front of Susan.
"This is my place. If I say she goes, she goes."
"If that's the case, I'll take her and Oliver with me," Caleb said firmly.
"Are you threatening me?" Aidan was nearly having a stroke from anger.
Seeing Aidan's face turn pale with rage, Mia quickly tried to calm things down. "Caleb, don't argue with your father. He's just worried about Oliver..."
"You just want to win him over and take him away."
"What are you talking about? He's my grandson. Do I need to win him over? I'm telling you, my grandson stays with me. You can forget about taking him away."
Susan wasn't backing down. "He's my son."
The two were at each other's throats, the tension palpable.
"Stop arguing, both of you," Mia stepped between them. "We're all concerned about Oliver, aren't we? What's the point of arguing? The most important thing now is for Oliver to recover quickly."
Susan clenched her fists, trying to stay calm. "Once Oliver recovers, I'll take him away."
"Get out now!"
Susan sneered at Aidan. "Do you think I want to stay here?"
"Do you think I want you to stay? You're dirtying the floor just by standing here."
"Aidan," Mia sighed, exasperated.
Susan didn't want to argue. "I'll go be with Oliver."
"I'll take care of my grandson. You can leave."
Susan ignored him, and they jostled, ready to argue again.
"Let Susan stay with Oliver tonight," Caleb said firmly.
"Why?"
"Oliver called for me when he was unconscious," Susan said confidently.
"You..." Aidan was confused. 'How did she know?'
Susan saw through it. If Oliver hadn't called for her, they wouldn't have let her in. They were selfish.
"Aidan, you've been here all day. You must be tired. Let her stay tonight, and you can come back tomorrow."
"I'm not tired. I'm fine," Aidan protested, then started coughing.
"See?" Mia shook her head. "Let's go."
Aidan, exhausted, knew continuing would only show his weakness. He didn't want to give Susan the satisfaction. He suppressed his anger, planning to rest and come back tomorrow to kick her out.
"Don't think about taking my grandson," Aidan warned before leaving, grumbling.
Mia looked helpless. "Ms. Wilson, that's just his temper. Don't mind him. Thank you for coming."
Susan didn't appreciate it. "Oliver is my son. If he's unwell, of course, I, as his mother, would come to take him home."
Mia was a bit displeased. "Well, thank you for taking care of him tonight. The doctor will be here, and if you need anything, just ask the servants."
Inside the room, Susan crossed her arms, trying to calm herself.
"Susan..." Caleb reached out, but she moved away. "Don't touch me."
"I'm really sorry about what happened. My parents didn't mean to..."
"Yes, they didn't mean to. They're just selfish and stupid," Susan retorted.
"Susan..."
"Don't call my name," she made a stopping gesture. "I don't want to argue right now."
Susan didn't want to talk to Caleb and walked past him to the bed.
She gently took Oliver's hand to tuck it under the blanket, but the little hand immediately grasped hers. "Mommy... I missed you, Mommy..."
Susan's throat felt as sour as if she had eaten a lemon.
The morning sunlight fell on Susan's eyelids, tickling her face like a little cat brushing against her.
Susan opened her sleepy eyes.
"Good morning, Mommy!" Oliver's sweet smile greeted her, brighter than the sunlight.
That adorable little face brought Susan back to reality. "Good morning."
"Good morning, Mommy," Oliver gave Susan a kiss. Like a little kitten, he snuggled into her arms. "I missed you so much, Mommy. Your arms are the most comfortable."
Susan held Oliver tighter, kissing his forehead. "Mommy missed you too."
Only when holding her son did Susan feel alive. Yet her heart remained uneasy, fearing the possibility of her son being taken away at any moment.
A mother's love couldmake a woman gentle, but it could also turn her into a fierce lunatic. Anyone who tried to take her son would be torn apart.
"Are you still feeling unwell?"
"My tummy still hurts a bit."
Susan blamed Aidan in her heart for causing her precious son to get sick.
"Take some medicine and rest well for a couple of days, and you'll be fine. Once you're better, we'll go home."
"What about Grandpa and Grandma?"
