Chapter 654: Concern from Mr. Eilish?
The phone kept ringing, and no one was picking up.
Anthony was getting kinda ticked off. He shouldn't have stuck his nose in and made this call. First off, it wasn't his business; second, it could totally be misunderstood.
He was about to hang up.
"Hello?" Juniper answered, sounding out of breath, "Sorry, I was in the shower."
Anthony's mood chilled a bit, but he stayed quiet.
"Hello? You still there?"
"Yeah," he mumbled.
"Why aren't you saying anything? What's up?"
"Just checking on you."
"Checking on what? Nothing's up, I just had dinner and then went home," Juniper said casually.
They could still have dinner together.
Anthony's mind flashed back to the photo he had seen earlier. He didn't know why it bugged him. He wasn't exactly mad, but he felt a tightness in his chest.
"He didn't do anything to you?"
"If he dared, I'd beat him up." Juniper's eyes rolled playfully, "Seems like you're really worried about me."
"No, it's just 'cause I'm your boss."
"Yeah, so when I said you seemed concerned, I meant it from a boss. What other kind of concern could it be?" Juniper smirked. He made this call clearly out of concern for her, yet he wouldn't admit it. Stubborn. But it was kinda cute.
Anthony was silent, "Don't overthink it."
"I'm not overthinking it. Seems like you're the one overthinking, Mr. Eilish."
Was he? Anthony suddenly fell silent.
"Ronnie isn't a great person. Try to avoid him in the future."
"If you're reminding me as my boss, it seems a bit unreasonable, doesn't it? Bosses usually don't meddle in their subordinates' personal affairs. Boyfriends do..."
Anthony suddenly didn't know how to respond.
"Get some rest."
"Okay, Mr. Eilish, you get some rest too."
Sometimes flirting requires skill; saying too much makes it boring.
Juniper hung up the phone and happily flopped onto her bed.
Ronnie might be annoying, but he could become her ally.
Falling asleep with a happy mood, Juniper had several sweet dreams, even dreaming about her wedding with Anthony.
She woke up smiling. When she looked in the mirror, she found herself glowing. Love is indeed the best beauty product for a woman.
She hummed a tune as she went downstairs.
"Juniper, get up and come have breakfast," Aaron said, pulling out a chair.
Juniper took a piece of bread and head to work.
"It's still early today, no rush. Finish your breakfast first," Aaron said, pressing her into the chair.
"Juniper, you look great today. Something good happen?" Elara asked through gritted teeth.
Look at her fake expression. If she was happy, it would be a disaster for them.
"Yeah, I'm in a pretty good mood," Juniper said, provoke them deliberately. They didn't want to hear her good news, so she would be happy just to spite them.
"Juniper, is someone pursuing you? I saw a sports car drop you off last night," Saffron asked.
"Mr. Eilish dropped you off?" Aaron's eyes lit up immediately.
"It wasn't Mr. Eilish, it was another man. Juniper, you really attract men. I'm so jealous of you."
Juniper smiled faintly, "Yeah, I have countless suitors, unlike some people who can only poach others' boyfriends."
Saffron was left speechless.
"Juniper, it's cool to have admirers, but juggling a bunch of guys? Not so much. Aren't you dating Mr. Eilish now? He'll flip if he finds out you're messing around with other dudes," Elara said.
"Who's messing around with other men? Quit spreading lies."
"I didn't mean it like that. It's just that you have a lot of admirers and seem pretty proud of it, so I thought I'd give you a heads-up. Don't be so touchy."
Juniper sneered.
"Juniper, Elara's got a point. Since you're with Mr. Eilish, you should watch your image. Keep your distance from other guys and stay loyal," Aaron chimed in.
"You’re lecturing me about loyalty?" Juniper looked at Aaron with amusement.
Aaron knew what she meant and felt a sting on his face.
He owed his daughter in this matter. Every time she used it to mock him, he couldn't say a word.
"Anyway, I'm just looking out for you," Aaron said awkwardly.
"No need, just take care of yourselves." Juniper said, grabbing a piece of bread and milk before leaving.
Elara frowned, "Aaron, you saw it. I tried to be nice, but Juniper has a terrible temper. She almost wants me to kneel to her. It's all because you spoiled her."
"Just say less," Aaron said.
"I... You only know how to yell at me. Why are you so careful with her?" Elara was full of resentment.
"Mom, let it go. Don't be angry. Juniper has so many admirers. She's a bit spoiled, but I'm afraid she'll cause a scandal and get dumped by Mr. Eilish..." Saffron said.
"She won't. Both of you, stop talking! Stop causing trouble," Aaron scolded.
Juniper didn't let those annoying people ruin her good mood. She bit into her bread and headed out to catch a cab.
A sports car honked at her.
"Hey, good morning," Ronnie waved at her from the car.
Why is this pest here again? Juniper kept a straight face and ignored him.
"Hey, can't you see this handsome guy here?" Ronnie drove alongside her, "Get in, I'll give you a ride."
"No need, stop bothering me."
"You'll be late for work."
"You know I'll be late and you're still pestering me? Are you doing it on purpose?" Juniper glared at him.
"Why are you so hard to please? I'm offering you a ride out of kindness, but you don't appreciate it. Do you know what time I got here? I haven't gotten up at seven in ages. I've been waiting for you for half an hour."
"No one asked you to wait."
"Hey, I just like waiting for you, so what?"
Juniper laughed, "Look in the mirror and see how pathetic you look."
"I'm pathetic, so what? Bite me."
Juniper rolled her eyes. He was so shameless that scolding him was useless.
She quickened her pace.
Ronnie drove slowly behind her. There was still a bit of a walk from the suburban villa, "Are you planning to speed walk? Can your two legs outrun a vehicle?"
"Stop following me," Juniper was starting to sweat.
"Stop being stubborn. Get in the car. I don't mean anything else, just want to give you a ride to work."
"Impossible, you definitely have an ulterior motive."
"You're right, my motive is to pursue you. But if you're not interested, I can't force you, right?" Ronnie blocked her path with his car, "Get in, be good."
