Chapter 304 Give Me Another Chance.
Layla walked into the ward, where the nurse was preparing to change Samuel's bandages, a gentle and affectionate look in her eyes. "Let me do it," Layla said softly, taking over the task, leaving the nurse somewhat disappointed.
Samuel, noticing her improved complexion compared to yesterday, asked in a gentle voice, "Did you sleep well last night?"
"I did," Layla replied. Joseph was surprised to see Samuel's unusually gentle gaze. How could this be the same man who exuded authority and fierceness? In front of Layla, he was surprisingly docile.
Joseph couldn't help but think, 'Wow, love can turn a lion into a lamb.'
Layla carefully removed Samuel's shirt, relieved to find that the wound hadn't reopened. She then proceeded to clean and dress it. Joseph suddenly chuckled, "Can you keep your thoughts pure while applying the ointment? Can you control yourself?" He noticed a subtle change in Samuel's pants. Layla's face turned slightly red.
"Do you want to do some hard labor in F continent?" Samuel narrowed his eyes, a hint of threat in his gaze.
Joseph quickly raised his hands in surrender, "My bad. I was being sarcastic, But, bro, I'm just looking out for your well-being, you know? You shouldn't push yourself. Take it easy. After all, there's a long road ahead."
"Get lost!"
"Alright, I'm out. Remember what I said, endure for now..." Joseph chuckled and ran off. The ward fell into a quiet state as if nothing had happened.
"Sit up. I need to bandage you," Layla said.
"Okay." Samuel sat up straight, and Layla wrapped her arms around him, assuming a hugging position, as she applied the bandage. Her hair and faint fragrance teased Samuel's senses, stirring his heart. How long had it been since he smelled her last time?
"Layla, I miss you." Samuel's heart ached. Layla's hand trembled for a moment, but she continued. "When I was in a coma, I could feel you, hear you talking to me, and sense your tears. I was anxious to wake up and let you know I was fine. If it weren't for you, I might have..." Samuel chuckled, "You saved me.”
"I thought about giving up on you, to spare you from pain, but after this life-and-death experience, I can't do it anymore. It was only at the brink of life and death that I truly understood what was most important to me. Layla, at that moment, you were all I could think about. I had already made it clear in my mind that if I survived, I would never let go of you," Samuel said, anxiously grabbing her hand.
Layla panicked. "Don't do this, Samuel. I just want to take care of you until you recover."
"Then I'd rather not recover for the rest of my life." Samuel's gaze was resolute, firm, and eager.
"You're being stubborn."
"I’m not being stubborn, Layla. You've become my destiny, and I can't let go."
"You may not be able to let go, but you must. It's impossible between us." Layla forced herself to say, her voice trembling, indicating her inner turmoil.
She had no resistance to this man, and he could easily break down the defenses she had built up. She had realized this more clearly in the past few days. Layla was worried about his wound getting infected. She was worried that it would affect his future activities, and all of this was constantly weighing on her, making her anxious. She cared about everything about him, more than she cared about herself.
When love reached its extreme, this was how it was. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't deny it. The hardest thing for a person to do was to fight against their own heart. It was so difficult that it could cost her life.
"Why do we have to let go? Let's not torture each other anymore, okay?" Samuel's voice was hoarse with pain. He looked at her so eagerly, as if she was the last light in his life.
In fact, Samuel had been living in the extreme darkness, every moment was like a thousand arrows piercing his heart, causing him immense pain. "I'm not asking you to consider me, but have you thought about the child? Layla, have you thought about his future? Can you bear to let him grow up in a fatherless family? Have you thought about the impact of a single-parent family on his life?"
Faced with his series of questions, Layla's heart was in chaos. She knew that she could not avoid thinking about these things, and she would have to face them in the future. It was just that at that moment, she had been avoiding thinking about this.
One day, these questions would come like a tide, and drown her. With her current salary, she could hardly take care of herself, let alone have a child. Kindergarten, Primary schools... Life was so long. It cost a lot to raise a kid. How could she manage to make much money? That invisible mountain pressed heavily on her shoulders, making her extremely anxious.
"I know that Owen's situation has caused you a lot of pain, made you feel unable to face it, and made you think that being with me is a betrayal of Owen. I also know that Owen is innocent, but our child is also innocent. Can you bear to let her bear our mistakes? Layla, that could ruin her future."
"Please stop." Layla covered her ears, wanting to escape, but Samuel held her hand, not allowing her to avoid listening.
"Samuel, don't be so selfish. You're just using the child to coerce me. You're despicable. You're really despicable."
"I am despicable because I love you, Layla. I want to be with you so much. If I could give up, I swear we would never have come to this point. It's all because I love you so much. You are my destiny. If you want to destroy me, then leave me. The problems I mentioned are real. As parents, we must consider the future of our children. Layla..." Samuel grabbed her hand tighter, making her sweat. "Give me another chance."
