Chapter 769 Four Days Later, His Wedding

Juniper's heart couldn't help but tremble for a moment.

Anthony's eyes also showed a ripple of emotion.

The people and things around them seemed to disappear, leaving only the two of them.

'Meeting here, is this fate? Is it good fate, or... a wrong one?'

"Mr. Eilish," Juniper nodded, recovering before he did.

Anthony nodded, "What are you doing here?"

"My dad is sick, so I came back."

"Is he okay?"

"Nothing serious, I'm here to handle his discharge paperwork," Juniper said politely. "Thanks for your concern."

Politeness equaled estrangement. When did they become so distant and indifferent?

Anthony felt a bit melancholic.

Yet, it was an insurmountable barrier.

They were like two lines that intersected once and then drifted apart.

And then, there was nothing more to say.

His wedding was in four days. Juniper hesitated whether to wish him a happy marriage.

But knowing his reluctance, saying that would be a kind of mockery.

She thought about it and decided against it, swallowing the words back.

"You're welcome," Anthony could only respond with such a pale phrase.

From love to estrangement, to having nothing to say.

This feeling was really uncomfortable, making his whole chest feel tight.

"Then I'll go first. Goodbye, Mr. Eilish."

Anthony nodded, only able to watch her leave.

As the elevator doors slowly closed, her silhouette disappeared from view.

He could only remind himself not to linger on her.

The whole day, Anthony was in a terrible mood.

Back home.

"Anthony, you're back. There are a few places at the wedding venue that need adjustments. Come and give some advice."

Hera acted as if nothing had happened, but this made Anthony even more uncomfortable.

Now she was completely wearing a mask, her smile was fake, her heart was fake, and he hated falseness the most, finding it hard to face.

Thinking about spending the rest of his life with a woman wearing a mask, Anthony felt a strong sense of suffocation and nausea.

"You decide," he said coldly, feeling suffocated, and loosened his tie as he went upstairs.

"Anthony, come and take a look," Brenda said quickly, afraid Hera would feel awkward.

"I'm not interested," Anthony went upstairs.

The atmosphere became very awkward.

Brenda forced a smile, "He's been busy with the company and the wedding recently, too tired, too much pressure, please bear with him."

They both knew these were just polite words, yet they had to play along.

"Yes, I know, Mrs. Eilish. I also feel sorry for him being so tired," Hera said, though she felt disgusted inside.

Tired of what? The wedding preparations were a one-woman show from start to finish, she was busy and exhausted, and he still acted like she owed him.

The more Hera thought about his attitude just now, the angrier she got.

"Mrs. Eilish, I'll go check on him."

"Okay."

As soon as Hera left, Brenda secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

This acting was too tiring.

That day when Anthony came home and suddenly proposed marriage, she felt something was wrong and advised him to be cautious.

But he was determined, and since the other party's family background was good, the family agreed and started helping them prepare for the wedding.

But the closer the wedding date, the more wrong it felt. It was like someone was holding a knife to Anthony's neck, forcing him to marry Hera.

This marriage didn't bring any joy, it felt like going to the execution ground.

Brenda couldn't understand what "threat" her son was under, forcing him to marry Hera.

"Did you have to put on a sour face just now and make me look bad in front of your mom?"

Anthony was already in a bad mood, and Hera's words made him even more annoyed, "Get out."

"This is my home, why should I get out?" Hera said assertively, "Don't forget, we're getting married soon. This is also my home!"

Anthony hated this kind of talk the most, it meant Hera was going to invade his life, rightfully and justifiably control him, bind him, demand from him, and monitor him.

He used to think marriage was a prison, but he didn't believe it. He thought marriage should be mutual respect, adding to each other's lives.

But now he deeply understood why marriage was called a prison.

Marrying the wrong person, someone you don't love, was indeed a prison. Every moment was suffocating, like the painful feeling of being hanged.

"Then I'll leave," Anthony left without hesitation.

"Where are you going?" Hera grabbed him.

"None of your business."

"I'm about to be your wife! Don't I have the right to know?"

"Even if you are, I won't be controlled by you. See, this is it, is marriage just a shackle? Controlling me for a lifetime? Is this marriage or prison?"

Hera was infuriated, "Is this my fault? Blame yourself for being entangled with that woman. You have a history, shouldn't I keep an eye on you?"

"See, there's no trust. You don't trust me, so what's the point of this marriage? A lifetime of suspicion? Hera, either you'll drive me crazy, or I'll drive you crazy. We'll both become lunatics."

Anthony used to be gentle, but now he was forced to speak more and more agitatedly, with a heavy tone.

This was undoubtedly a bad change, and he hated this version of himself. He was afraid Hera would force him to become someone else.

"You, don't think you can force me to cancel the engagement with such words. The wedding is in 4 days, no matter what, I will marry you. Don't think you can force me to cancel the wedding."

Hera was also driven to a dead end. Even if it was hell, she had to persist, having no other choice.

She added, "No matter how bad our private relationship is, you shouldn't show such disdain for me in front of your mom. It makes me feel undignified."

"Is dignity more important than true happiness?" Anthony shook his head, "If you care so much about dignity, I can tell you clearly, you will feel more and more humiliated in the future. This is just the beginning."

"Are you threatening me?"

"I'm just telling you the result of your obstinacy," Anthony said coldly.

"Anthony!" Hera angrily grabbed his sleeve.

"Let go!"

"Why are you treating me like this? Are you in contact with that woman again? Did she sow discord between us?"

"Don't drag Juniper into everything. We already have issues, it has nothing to do with her."

"How can it have nothing to do with her? It's because of her that we..."

"What's going on?" Brenda walked in.

Hera had to swallow her angry words and forced a smile, "Nothing, we just had a little argument about the venue."

"Do it the way you like," Brenda said.

"Okay." Hera nodded.

"I specifically asked the maid to make some tonic, go have some."

Hera knew Brenda's intention and went downstairs.
