Chapter 706 Who Strikes First

Anthony thought, 'Man, Juniper's got a knack for buttering people up. But does she really not see my bias, or is she just playing dumb? Sometimes she's like a sneaky little fox, maybe even putting on an act.'

Juniper asked, "Mr. Eilish, how's the investigation on that last incident going?"

"Still digging," Anthony replied, "Almost there."

"Good. The truth will come out soon and clear my name. Mr. Eilish, you see how anxious I am for the results, which means I definitely didn't lie. I didn't lose the contract; it was Mira who swiped it." Juniper said casually. Who wants to be wronged, right?

Anthony responded coolly, "That's not a given. Sometimes the more someone pushes for an investigation, the more they're scared of what it'll find."

Juniper frowned. "You don't believe me?"

"Do you care if I believe you?"

"Of course I care a lot." Juniper blurted out. She paused, wondering if she sounded too eager. "I mean, this is serious. Of course, I want you to believe me and clear my name. Otherwise, I'll lose my job."

Anthony asked, "Is that all?"

"What?"

Did he mean he expected more than just that?

Before she could figure out how to respond, Anthony said, "Get back to work, and don't stir up trouble."

Juniper replied, "I'll work hard, but as for not causing trouble, I can't promise that. Like I said, I'm easily envied. I don't start stuff, but people often come at me."

Anthony reminded, "You need to learn to keep your cool."

"I've been pretty calm, but it's impossible not to fight back when she hits me. Should I just let her hit me?" Juniper felt a bit aggrieved.

Anthony felt a twinge of heartache. "Did it hurt a lot?"

"Of course. Women fight fiercely, pulling hair and all. She almost ripped a chunk of my scalp off, and I lost a lot of hair." Juniper pouted, her face clearly saying she was so wronged and please comfort her.

Although Anthony knew she was somewhat acting, he couldn't help but feel heartache. He never wanted to see her get hurt in the slightest.

But as a guy, he couldn't really step into a catfight. He couldn't just go and hit Mira, could he?

Anthony asked, "Need a doctor?"

"No need. I didn't get any visible injuries." Juniper waved her hand repeatedly. Anthony might have said it casually, but it warmed her heart. He cared about her. "Luckily, it was just hair-pulling this time. Although it hurt, it didn't hit my face. I care most about my face. I'm prettier than her. So if it were slapping, I'd clearly be at a disadvantage."

Anthony couldn't help but smile, but he couldn't encourage this behavior, so he kept a cold expression. "Have you said enough?"

Juniper realized she seemed a bit too carried away and stuck out her tongue, "I've said enough and I'll leave now. You get back to your work."

As soon as she went out, she saw a group of female colleagues surrounding Mira, showing concern. When they saw her come out, they immediately glared at her with hostility, as if she had a grudge against them.

These days, being pretty just makes people jealous.

But even so, Juniper was happy to have a pretty face. Let them be jealous if they want.

"Juniper, how could you hit Mira? That's too much."

"Yeah, Mira helped you when you first joined. This is how you repay her?"

"Exactly! Never seen anything like it, so excessive."

They acted like police officers, full of righteousness.

But to Juniper, it was really funny. She thought, 'I really admire these people who are clearly driven by selfish motives, yet speaking so righteously. How do they do it? Why not just become justice warriors?'

"She knows who started it." Juniper smirked at Mira.

"Of course, it was you who started it! Mira has been here for five years and gets along with everyone. How could she start a fight?"

"Yeah, it's you. You're usually so arrogant, and it's no surprise you started it."

Juniper didn't know where they got the idea she was arrogant. She thought, 'I'm as low-key as can be, not even wearing much makeup. But I'm naturally good-looking, what can I do?'

"Mira has no reason to start a fight."

Juniper asked, "And I do?"

"Of course! You're jealous that Mira went on a business trip with Mr. Eilish. You must have pushed her on purpose to get this opportunity."

"You're right. I hadn't thought of that. Now that she's replaced, it must be premeditated!"

"So scheming, hitting someone to get this chance. Luckily, Mira only hurt her leg. What if she hit her head? Could you afford that?"

"This could be considered intentional injury. If there were evidence, you should be jailed."

"She chose the bathroom without cameras on purpose. She planned everything!"

"You're so vicious!"

"You guys should be screenwriters, such imagination." Juniper sneered, "What's there to be jealous of? I don't see it."

"If you're not jealous of Mira, is Mira jealous of you?"

"Yes, she is." Juniper nodded seriously.

"Jealous of you flirting with two men at the same time? You only rely on men, while Mira is truly capable and respected. We don't respect you."

"Then keep it to yourselves." Juniper retorted sharply.

"You—"

"Too arrogant."

"The truth will come out eventually. When it does, I hope you still stand by Mira." Juniper didn't argue further with fools and walked away.

"Damn it!"

"Now she's even more arrogant, going on a business trip with Mr. Eilish."

"Exactly! Look how smug she is."

"How can there be such a person? I'm so angry."

They were all furious, but the most frustrated was Mira.

She had finally gotten the chance to go on a business trip alone with Anthony and had even thanked God. But she didn't expect God to play such a cruel joke on her.

Nothing was more frustrating than gaining something and then losing it!

Of all places to fall, she had to hurt her leg, making it difficult to walk. In this state, she couldn't go on the trip, no matter how hard she tried.

And Anthony probably preferred Juniper to accompany him on the trip.

Mira was extremely jealous but helpless.
