Chapter 391 Be Ambushed
Cloudy.
At 9 AM at Brightness Design Company.
Layla went to work as usual. When she entered, everyone stopped and stared at her as if under a spell. Then, as if by mutual agreement, they pretended to look away casually and continued with their tasks.
The office was unusually quiet, you could hear a pin drop.
Layla placed her coffee and burger on the desk and turned on her computer, looking composed. She could feel the various gazes behind her.
The incident at the bar had spread throughout the company, but everyone tacitly pretended nothing had happened, with an undercurrent brewing. Once someone lit the fuse, it would explode.
However, apart from Fanny and Cassandra, no one dared to offend her, so Layla enjoyed a brief calm.
In the morning, everything was peaceful. When colleagues came to discuss work with her, they spoke softly and cautiously, a bit afraid of her.
Layla remained composed. She didn't have the energy to dwell on past conflicts because all her focus was on work.
While pouring water, Levi walked in.
"That night at the bar, those five men were arranged by Fanny Taylor, right?" Levi asked.
Layla didn't respond.
"That night, shortly after you left, Cassandra messaged the group saying she'd take everyone to see a show at midnight and shared a room number. Everyone waited until midnight, but Cassandra didn't return. They went on their own and saw Cassandra and Fanny having sex, with the five men standing nearby, also undressed. So I guess they were trying to harm you, but for some reason, it turned out like that. They reaped what they sowed. It serves them right." Levi couldn't help but laugh.
Layla felt uncomfortable. While Fanny and the others brought it upon themselves, it wasn't right for a man to revel in others' pain.
"I'm not sure," Layla responded calmly and walked out of the pantry with the water.
As soon as she stepped out, Cassandra rushed in, with disheveled hair and bloodshot eyes, looking like a mad person.
Her disheveled gaze exploded with intense hatred the moment she saw Layla, shouting, "Bitch, I'll kill you!" Suddenly, she pulled out a dagger from her down jacket, charging towards Layla.
Everything happened too quickly, and others screamed and fled.
The danger was heading straight for Layla, but she acted swiftly, knocking the dagger away just as it was about to stab her, spilling water onto Cassandra's face.
Cassandra screamed in agony.
Others cowered in a corner, terrified.
It was too terrifying.
"Layla Adkins, I... I'll kill you." Cassandra, with her face burned, grabbed a flowerpot from the table and charged at her again. But even in an unguarded moment, Layla easily dodged and kicked Cassandra down.
Cassandra's plump body fell to the ground and she clutched her stomach, unable to get up. She kept shouting that she would kill Layla.
"If you can, then do it." Layla stood firm, exuding a powerful aura.
The onlookers were too intimidated to speak. At that moment, Layla was fierce and powerful, like a lion. She usually kept quiet. But in reality, she had merely restrained her power. None of them could provoke her.
"Even if we perish together." Cassandra wanted to skin her!
"It was you that led those five men to...One of them even got sick. I'm... I'm screwed. You've ruined my life," Cassandra shouted.
"I didn't screw you, you screwed yourself. You didn't expect that the conspiracy you and Fanny used to harm me would ultimately backfire. Those who harm others will eventually harm themselves. Cassandra, you deserve it!"
Others also silently agreed with this point.
Although Cassandra was a bit pitiful, she must have something despicable. If she weren’t trying to harm Layla, she wouldn't have ended up like this. This is a typical case of reaping what you sowed. She was not worth any sympathy at all!
Although they had targeted Layla to keep their jobs, Cassandra and Fanny were too malicious. They could never do such a thing. They both regretted how they treated Layla.
"You are despicable!" Cassandra continued to angrily scold.
"The reason you think so is entirely because you have a narrow mind and no firm stance. I can honestly say that I haven’t done anything wrong to you. I just want to work hard. I neither want to gather people from cliques to achieve my own interests or goals, nor do I want to make enemies. I have always been diligent, doing my job properly," Layla added.
"So why do you seduce men for money?" Cassandra asked.
"Nonsense. There is no evidence, it's all your imagination. I have never done it, and I will never sell myself for any amount of money. Because you dislike me, you have imagined all sorts of negative things about me that have nothing to do with me. Your so-called sugar daddy is my boyfriend!Yes, he is wealthy, but I have never thought of relying on him. I want to earn money with my own hands, that's why you all teamed up against me, but I still stand firm here today."Design is not just a job for me, it's also my dream and the only important thing for me. As for the rest of you, I have never thought of getting deeply involved with you, nor have I ever thought of being your enemy. It's your jealousy that keeps driving you to target me repeatedly," Layla shouted.
"Cassandra, think for yourself, have I ever done anything to harm you?" Layla spoke sternly, but her tone was not heavy. She didn't need to hysterically prove anything, because her integrity and righteousness were her strongest weapons.
"Why haven't you, you let those five men force me..." Cassandra roared.
Layla shook her head. "I'm different from you all. I won't resort to disgusting means to retaliate against you. Nothing happened that night. It was just a warning to all of you."
"What do you mean?" Cassandra's tears stopped abruptly. "You mean I wasn't raped by them and I didn't get sick?"
"As a woman, I wouldn't do such vile things," Layla replied.
Cassandra got up from the ground, tears streaming, a mix of shock and relief. "Really? You swear?"
"Believe it or not." Layla couldn't be bothered to explain further. "I have to work."
Layla returned to her workstation.
Cassandra stood there for a while, dazed.
She found it hard to believe that Layla hadn't... If it were herself, if someone dared to harm her like that, Cassandra might have sought revenge with ten men, definitely not just to scare them.
