Chapter 407 Soulmate

Layla was thinking about keeping her distance, but the next day at work, Brian called her into his office to draw designs.

As they chatted about the design and sketched, Layla quickly became completely absorbed, temporarily forgetting to keep her distance.

Brian was like a stimulant for her. When she talked and designed with him, she felt excited, her mind racing, and her eyebrows dancing.

During a break, she went to the break room, where a colleague named Luna also came in to make coffee and glanced at her coffee, saying, "Making coffee for Mr. Evans again?"

"Yes." It was just a casual thing for Layla.

When she was with Brian, they had endless topics to talk about, and she drank water faster than usual.

"Having dinner with Mr. Evans again tonight?" Luna asked.

"I don't know, he didn't say." Layla paused. Wait a minute.

Layla turned her head and saw Luna smiling at her with curiosity and ambiguity. "We all saw you and Mr. Evans coming out of the restaurant together last night."

"We worked late until after eight, so we had dinner together." Layla thought it was nothing and admitted it very calmly.

"But Mr. Evans is so gentle with you. He's usually so cold and strict, indifferent to anything outside of work. But last night, he took off his suit jacket and gave it to you. He really cares about you, and we were all so jealous..." Luna clasped her hands to her chest, looking like a fan girl brainwashed by idol dramas.

"You're overthinking it. It was cold, and Mr. Evans was just being polite," Layla explained.

"Mr. Evans isn't the person who's polite to just anyone. The way he looks at you is so soft," Luna added.

Layla was speechless. 'How could they see his expression from so far away? It is all in their imagination,' she thought.

Women who loved to fantasize were terrifying, better not mess with them.

Layla gave a polite smile and was about to retreat...

"Layla, is Mr. Evans pursuing you?" Luna asked.

Layla was speechless again and laughed. "Do you think that's possible?"

"Why not? You're beautiful and talented. Isn't it normal for Mr. Evans to pursue you?" Luna added.

Layla candidly said, "I don't think a man like Mr. Evans, who lacks emotional intelligence, would have romantic thoughts."

Luna disagreed, saying, "What's wrong with a man who lacks emotional intelligence? That doesn't mean he can't like a girl. Once such a man falls in love, he's incredibly gentle and considerate. The key is he's devoted and won't look at other girls."

"All ten of us unanimously agree. Mr. Evans likes you!" Luna spoke so confidently, as if her and Brian's feelings were decided by them.

Layla couldn't help but shake her head. "You ten could write a romance novel. I'll pre-order a copy."

"Isn't it true? Otherwise, why does Mr. Evans call you into his office every day and keep you there all day? He doesn't call us," she added.

"We're discussing design and work. I don't deny that Mr. Evans and I have great chemistry in design, but there's absolutely no personal feelings involved." To shut her up, Layla directly said, "I have a boyfriend, remember?"

"How could I forget your boyfriend who booked a presidential suite for three nights and gave you a limited edition platinum bag?" Luna exclaimed exaggeratedly, "He might be richer than Mr. Evans, but Mr. Evans is also quite well-off. You're not a girl who chases money. Between money and soul, you'd definitely choose the soul."

"Isn't it popular now to talk about finding a soulmate? Since you and Mr. Evans get along so well, he must be your soulmate. That's more important than money," Luna said.

Layla didn't know how to respond. "Keep dreaming. I'm going back to work."

"So we were right, weren't we? Layla, Layla..." Luna asked.

Layla quickly made her escape with a cup of coffee and a cup of water.

On her way back to Brian's office, she received quite a few suggestive looks.

Brian closed the file in his hand. "Why did it take you so long?"

"Don't even mention it. The women in our office have gone crazy," Layla replied.

"Gone crazy?" Brian was confused.

"Yes, one of them cornered me in the break room just now, asking if you like me and are pursuing me," she replied.

Hearing this, Brian, who was focused on his work, suddenly had a strange look in his eyes, as if something had stirred his heart. "What did you say?"

"Of course, I said no. I told her we just work well together and there are absolutely no personal feelings involved. She didn't believe me and insisted I admit you like me. She even said we're soulmates. They're so imaginative. Today's girls are so brainwashed by idol dramas that no matter how much you deny it. They create a whole story in their heads." Layla, with a clear conscience, told Brian everything, ranting on and on.

"They even took a vote. Don't you think they have too much imagination? Mr. Evans? Mr. Evans, are you listening?" Layla asked.

Brian was actually lost in thought.

In the office, Brian always stayed highly alert.

"Yes. Don't pay any attention to them." Brian's emotions were unreadable.

"I didn't take it to heart. I just told you as a joke to lighten the work atmosphere," she added.

"You never considered the possibility?" Brian regretted it as soon as he said it. He was always thoughtful, but that sentence seemed to come out instinctively, surprising even himself.

Layla looked at him, puzzled. "What possibility?"

"Nothing," he replied.

From Layla's willingness to talk to him about these things, Brian knew her attitude. She hadn't thought much about it.

But what about him? Had he thought too much? Otherwise, why would he ask that?

Brian was stunned.

Layla then noticed that the blinds hadn't been drawn. She turned her head and saw her colleagues quickly looking down, pretending to be busy.

So they had been "watching the show" all morning.

Layla didn't want to be an actor.

Drawing the blinds would seem guilty. Not drawing would make her being watched. It was a dilemma.

As Layla hesitated, Brian's voice came to her ears. "Let them be."

"Maybe I should go back to my desk to draw. Being in your office every day makes it easy for them to speculate," she said.

"Do you mind?" Brian asked her.

Layla thought for a moment and shook her head.

"Then it's settled." Brian didn't mind either.

Layla, with a clear conscience, didn't think much of it and sat down to continue drawing.

When Brian looked up, Layla had already fallen asleep on the desk.

She fell asleep in just five minutes of silence. So fast.

Brian smiled. He glanced at the clock. It was three o'clock, the time when people were most likely to feel sleepy.

He got up and walked over, bending down to pull the design drawing from under Layla's arm, but was captivated by her adorable sleeping face.
