Chapter 858 Illegal Transactions
"Juniper, you're back just in time. Take a good look at this!" Elara boasted, holding the contract up in front of Juniper.
"A contract?" Juniper glanced at it. Wasn't this the only project Saffron had? She actually managed to close the deal? Something must be off.
"It's signed by Saffron. And you? You've been with the company for so long, have you signed any contracts? All I hear is that Kieran praises you, but I haven't seen you produce anything tangible!"
Saffron crossed her arms, looking extremely smug.
"Juniper, even though you've sidelined my department, suppressed me in various ways, and even set traps for me, I still managed to sign it. You can't stop someone who truly has the ability!"
"Is it ability or is there something shady going on behind the scenes?" Juniper cut straight to the point.
Elara, furious, snapped, "What do you mean by that? You're just jealous of Saffron because you lack the skills. You can't stand someone being better than you?"
"Saffron truly has the skills, and this contract is the best proof!"
"She's better than you!"
"If I remember correctly, the project was supposed to be signed in half a month. How did she manage to sign it so quickly?"
"Nonsense! Of course, it's because Saffron is amazing. Otherwise, how could she close a deal in three days that others take half a month to finalize? It proves she's better than others. You can't do it, so you say there's something wrong with her. You're so petty! This is jealousy, pure jealousy!" Elara ranted.
"Honey, did you see that? She just can't admit that Saffron is better than her. She's narrow-minded and can't stand Saffron being better!"
"Don't say that. Juniper has a point. There are rules to signing contracts. Doing it too quickly might not be a good thing. It's normal for her to be concerned. Saffron, did you follow the proper procedures?"
"What do you mean? Saffron is so capable, and instead of praising her, you doubt her? If it were Juniper, you'd be happy, right? They're both your daughters, how can you be so biased?"
"I'm not biased; I'm concerned. You don't understand the business world. One wrong move can lead to lawsuits."
"Are you trying to scare me? So Saffron doesn't deserve recognition? Is that what you're saying?"
"No, I can't reason with you."
"Of course, you can't, because you're biased!"
Saffron's eyes welled up with tears, "Dad, you don't believe in me? I've worked so hard to earn your approval, and you doubt me?"
"I'm not doubting you; I'm worried you're too eager for quick success."
"I'm not. I got this contract through my own ability. I didn't break any laws or rules. If you don't believe me, fine!"
"I believe you, but..."
"Forget it, don't say anymore. The contract is already signed, let's see what happens next." Juniper, exhausted from a business trip, didn't want to argue, "Dad, I'm going upstairs to rest."
Saffron glared at her back with hatred. 'Why the double standard? Why?'
'Juniper, I will sign hundreds of times more contracts than you to prove I'm much better than you!'
Although Saffron didn't get any praise from Aaron, as soon as she got to the office, the entire department surrounded her with compliments.
"Ms. Cooper, you're amazing, closing the biggest project in just three days."
"Yeah, and you did it despite the company's suppression."
"Ms. Cooper is awesome."
"Who says you need a professional background? Ms. Cooper is better than the professionals."
"Exactly."
Even though they sensed something fishy, so what? Saffron signed the contract alone, and if something went wrong, it was her responsibility. They just needed to keep her happy.
"Of course, I'm a thousand times better than Juniper," Saffron said smugly. "Aren't there a few more projects? Bring them all to me; I'll get them done in a week."
"A week? Impossible."
"What are you talking about? We can't do it, but Ms. Cooper is extraordinary. If she goes, it's definitely possible."
"Hurry up and bring them over."
Saffron took on five projects, planning to use the same method to get the other parties to sign.
If she succeeded once, she could succeed again. She wanted to create a miracle and become the most impressive person in the company.
But she didn't expect that just two days later, Hestia called her with bad news.
"Why are you panicking? Speak slowly."
Hestia was crying on the other end, "The company found out I abused my power and is investigating me. What should I do? Help me."
"What does that have to do with me?"
"If it weren't for helping you, I wouldn't have... I've never done anything like this before."
"You're wrong. You weren't helping me; you were saving yourself. Otherwise, how would you pay off your loan sharks? You would've been chopped up by them long ago." Saffron sneered, "Anyway, you're the one who abused your power. I'm just a partner; it has nothing to do with me."
"Are you trying to make me a scapegoat?" Hestia said angrily.
"This is your mess, not mine."
"Saffron, don't think it's that simple. We're both involved. If I go down, do you think you can escape? I'll expose how you threatened me, and you'll be caught too."
"I didn't abuse my power. Why would they catch me?"
"Our private transactions are illegal. You broke the law too; you can't escape. If I'm caught, the police will come for you too."
Trying to scare her? Saffron scoffed, "Then let the police come for me. Do you know who my father is? I'm Aaron's daughter. My dad is the CEO. Even if they catch me, they'll release me immediately."
"I warn you, don't talk nonsense. Behave in prison, or you'll have a hard time."
After hanging up, Saffron felt a bit uneasy.
Would Hestia really expose her?
And what about illegal transactions?
She didn't abuse her power, so how could she be responsible? No way, right?
Saffron, being ignorant of the law, was confused. Hestia must be trying to scare her. She couldn't fall for it.
Even if something happened, her dad would protect her. She wasn't afraid.
However, that very afternoon, the police came for Saffron.
"We suspect you of engaging in illegal transactions with Hestia from Nexus Solutions Inc. We need to take you to the station for investigation."
Bianca quickly said, "Sir, you must be mistaken. Ms. Cooper wouldn't do such a thing, and all our company's transactions are legitimate. It's impossible."
"You'll find out at the station."
"Why should I go with you? I'm not going. Hestia is framing me. I didn't do anything illegal. You can't arrest me!" Saffron stubbornly refused, "I won't go with you."
