Chapter 728 Don't Leave Any Regrets
Was Juniper finally leaving?
Mira was stunned for a second and asked, "Are you resigning or getting fired?"
"If you want to think I'm getting fired, go ahead. I don't care what you think."
Mira mocked, "It's not that you don't care; you just can't deny it, right? Weren't you the one who confidently accused me of stealing the contract?"
"What now, feeling guilty and scared of being found out, so you're resigning in a hurry? It's pretty clear now who lost the contract."
Juniper replied, "Yeah, it's clear that you stole the contract. But I'm not going to keep fighting with someone like you and your despicable actions. It's not worth it. I'm moving on to a new life."
Mira cursed, "A woman like you is a disaster wherever you go. Don't think you'll have a good life."
"You're talking about yourself, right? You were a perfectly good secretary. Why choose to act like a scoundrel? You should know that the professional world is interconnected. Once word gets out that you stole a contract and framed a colleague, your reputation will be ruined. No company will dare to hire you, and you'll destroy your own future!"
Mira retorted, "Destroy my future? You're the one leaving. Who's the scoundrel?"
Juniper reminded, "My leaving doesn't mean the truth won't come out. Soon, everything will be clear. Just wait and see."
Juniper's confident smile made Mira uneasy.
Mira suffered from insomnia night after night, and when she did sleep, she had nightmares that Bennie took all her savings and exposed her actions to Anthony.
Then Anthony kicked her out of the Eilish Group, and no company would hire her. She ended up homeless and pitiful.
Just recalling that dream terrified her.
Because if the truth came out, it wouldn't just be a nightmare; it would become reality, and her fate could be a hundred times worse.
She had worked so hard to get where she was, so she didn't want to lose everything.
Honestly, Mira deeply regretted her actions. She shouldn't have tried to sabotage Juniper, which now ended up backfiring on herself.
But now there was no turning back. Even if she confessed everything, Anthony wouldn't forgive her.
Mira could only remain defiant. "Yes, the truth will come out that you lost the contract."
Juniper said, "Keep being stubborn. You won't be smug for long."
Anthony had given her three days, so within those three days, he would find out the truth. She believed in him!
Mira stood up. "You haven't resigned yet; you're still part of the company and need to handle these documents. You can't dump your work on me."
Juniper retorted, "This is called a handover. I'd better give them to you while I still remember, so I don't forget later. When I'm gone, the company will come after you, not me."
Juniper smiled sweetly, her smile both beautiful and arrogant.
Mira wanted to tear her face apart but couldn't do anything about it, which only made her angrier.
It seemed that someone from HR had spread the news of Juniper's resignation. By the afternoon, everyone in the company knew.
The happiest were those who usually badmouthed her the most.
"She's finally leaving. Seeing her every day was giving me a heart attack."
"You're being silly. You're the one getting angry while she's enjoying it. It's not worth it! The angrier you get, the happier she is."
"I don't want to be angry, but look at her! She acts like she's the most beautiful and capable person in the world. How can I stand it? Just looking at her makes me want to slap her."
"Come on, she's leaving. Why are you still angry? Just hold on; you won't see her in three days."
"But I'm still mad. Shouldn't she be held accountable for losing the contract and costing the company hundreds of thousands of dollars? It's too easy for her. Should we sue her?"
"Don't cause trouble. Remember, her backer is Mr. Woods. Can you afford to offend him?"
"Exactly. If Mr. Eilish doesn't care, why should you? Who's the boss here?"
"I just can't swallow this."
These people were truly heartless. Even when Juniper was about to leave, they wouldn't let her go.
Juniper shook her head helplessly.
At six o'clock, she ignored Mira's attempts to stop her and left on time.
As she walked out of the elevator, she instinctively stopped and looked at the entrance.
People were coming and going, but she didn't see that familiar, enthusiastic figure.
Ronnie wouldn't be picking her up anymore.
It wasn't that she missed him or had fallen for him because he stopped coming.
It was just that she had feelings too. Ronnie had been so good to her, but she had hurt him. She felt guilty.
There were many people in this world who would harm her and couldn't stand to see her do well.
But there were very few who genuinely cared for her. When she foud them, she should cherish them.
But she had hurt Ronnie who was good to her and ultimately let him down.
She just hoped that after she left, Ronnie would be okay and probably forget her soon, which would be for the best. Because she wasn't worth it.
The office was dead silent.
Anthony looked at the empty desk, feeling a bit lonely.
He used to keep the blinds closed, but ever since Juniper came, he kept them open except during meetings.
Occasionally, when he was tired of working, he would look up and see her working hard, and it made him feel secure.
Unknowingly, he had gotten used to her presence, and breaking a habit was often the hardest thing to do.
Would he be looking at an empty desk every day after three days?
He knew that if he wanted, he could find many ways to make Juniper stay and be by his side every day.
But if Juniper wasn't willing, what was the point?
That wouldn't be true affection, just possessiveness. It was too selfish. So, since Juniper was determined to leave, he would let her go.
Logically, he understood this, but emotionally, he was very reluctant.
His heart had been lonely for so long. How could he not want to hold on tightly to a ray of light when he saw it? How could he be willing to let go?
Caught between reason and emotion, Anthony was torn.
"Mr. Eilish." Terry came in to report on work and saw that Anthony was distracted.
He figured Anthony wasn't in the mood to listen, so he made decisions on matters he could handle himself.
Finally, he couldn't help but ask, "Have you approved Juniper's resignation?"
Anthony glanced at him. "Not yet."
Terry reminded, "Legally, we can't force an employee to stay. If you don't want her to resign, you can only offer a raise or negotiate."
"I know."
Terry continued, "If you really can't bear to let her go, then talk to Juniper again. I think she might feel the same way."
It was obvious they liked each other, but Ronnie was in the way, making things complicated.
As an observer, Terry could see their feelings clearly, so he was anxious for them.
Terry added, "Mr. Eilish, life is short. If you care about someone, you should do everything you can to keep them. Don't leave any regrets."
Terry could only say so much. He gave Anthony a deep look and left.
Anthony fell into deep thought. 'Don't leave any regrets...'
