Chapter 518 She's Giving You a Chance
"Actually, I already..." Michael didn't even get to say "divorced" before...
"Susan, Mom's calling you over," May cut in, strolling over.
"What were you about to say?" Susan asked.
"Ah, nothing. You go ahead." Michael grinned. He figured he needed the right moment to spill the beans. Doing it now would be way too rushed; he hadn't even thought it through. If he really wanted to go after her, he couldn't just wing it. He needed a solid plan.
"Okay, I'll go then." Susan shrugged it off.
May smirked. "What were you two chatting about? Looked like a good convo."
"Yeah, it was nice." Michael replied.
"I told you Susan's into you, didn't I?"
Michael shook his head. "I think you got it wrong. Susan thinks I'm still hitched and that I have a kid. So she probably just sees me as a buddy." Michael's mood dipped a bit.
May asked, "Are you sure she knows you're not divorced?"
Michael's heart skipped a beat. "What do you mean?"
"Maybe she's just pretending not to know."
Michael shot back, "Susan's not like that."
May laughed at his innocence. "Girls play little games in relationships; it's normal. She's pretending not to know to give you a shot."
"Could you be overthinking this?" Michael hoped so but didn't want to get his hopes up, fearing disappointment and losing their friendship.
May retorted, "Who am I to Susan? I'm her sister; I know her well. And Oliver is super close to you, right? You three looked like a family earlier. Speaking of which, if Susan accepts you, can you promise to treat Oliver like your own son?"
"Of course, I will." Michael nodded eagerly. "That would be a blessing; I'd cherish it."
"Good, that's a relief." May pretended to be reassured. "Susan's been through a lot, and I feel for her. I want her to find the most reliable guy."
"I'm very reliable," Michael tried to win her over.
"Yeah, I know you're reliable. Otherwise, why would I help you?" May smiled and patted Michael's shoulder. "A great woman doesn't wait around. If you don't act fast, you'll regret it. Don't worry, I'll help you! And you're not the only one with my support. I just tested Dad's attitude, and he thinks highly of you two. He always thought it was a shame you two didn't end up together back then."
"Really? Mr. Wilson, he also knows that I..." Michael was stunned.
May continued, "Anyone can see from the way you look at Susan that you like her. You think Susan doesn't know? She gets along so well with you because she wants to give you a chance. You didn't realize that? Good thing I reminded you."
"Thank you." Michael was filled with gratitude and felt more confident.
Meanwhile...
"Mom, were you looking for me?" Susan found Carol.
"No, I've been with Oliver the whole time." Carol replied.
"Oh, maybe May heard wrong." Susan didn't think much of it.
"Susan, you and Michael..."
"What about us?" Susan looked at Carol, puzzled. "Michael and I?"
Seeing her reaction, Carol thought Susan probably hadn't considered it that way. Better not to spell it out. The kids' feelings should be handled by themselves; she wouldn't interfere.
"Mommy, look, I washed my hands all clean." Oliver raised his hands to show Susan.
Susan squatted down and wiped his hands with a towel. "Yep, not just clean but smelling good too." She kissed Oliver's chubby cheek. "Sweet little guy."
"Mommy, did Michael leave?" Oliver asked.
"Nope, why?" Susan replied.
"Just wondering. Mommy, I think Michael's awesome. He's super nice and patient, a real good guy."
Susan was taken aback for a sec, then chuckled. "What are you thinking about with that little head of yours?"
'If Caleb knew, wouldn't he get spanked?' Susan thought.
Michael hung around until ten before heading out. After a shower and hitting the bed, Susan felt a wave of anxiety as she grabbed her phone.
'Caleb wouldn't video call her again, would he?' She wondered.
She quickly checked her phone and saw a bunch of messages, but they were all work stuff. None from Caleb.
The chat was eerily quiet.
Susan scrolled up and down a few times, frowning. Caleb hadn't called or texted; it was too weird.
'Is he mad? But he called last night to tell me not to be mad.' Susan found it odd. She debated texting him first but then decided against it. 'Forget it, better get some sleep.'
Susan forced herself not to overthink and tried to sleep.
She woke up in the middle of the night, checked her phone, and saw it was three in the morning. Still no message from Caleb.
She fell back asleep, feeling puzzled. When she woke up, the first thing she did was check her phone, but Caleb still hadn't sent anything.
Susan thought angrily, 'What's this? Is he too busy or sulking? Now that he's supposedly chasing me, he isn't even contacting me. What kind of attitude is that? Is this how he pursues someone? He's mad? I'm the one who's been wronged and is mad.'
Susan decided not to contact him out of spite and went downstairs after getting ready.
"Wow, Mommy, you look so pretty today!" Oliver exclaimed as soon as he saw her.
Susan smiled. "What do you mean? Are you saying I wasn't pretty before?"
"Of course not. Mommy is beautiful every day, the most beautiful woman in the world. It's just that I haven't seen you in a suit for a long time, so I'm amazed." The little guy had quite a rich vocabulary.
"Good boy." Susan beamed with joy at the compliment. Oliver had good taste.
Carol nodded in approval. "Not bad, very much like a designer."
"Right? I'm a manager, after all." Susan smiled, showing her white teeth.
Maurice also nodded frequently. "Yes, no wonder you're my daughter. Getting into a big company like the Holland Group isn't something just anyone can do. It's a place for top talents, and you're excellent!"
Susan replied, "That's right, bringing honor to Dad and the Wilson family."
Her professional attire of a suit and trousers highlighted her tall figure, with perfect proportions, looking both capable and feminine, radiant and charming.
"Mommy, it's your first day back at work. Good luck!" Oliver said.
"With my baby's support, I'm already full of energy." Susan replied.
May stood by, feeling a bit sour. 'It's just a small designer position; what's the big deal? They're exaggerating. When I took over the music school, they didn't cheer me on like this. A biological daughter is a biological daughter. They say they're not biased, but who are they kidding? Hypocrites!'
But May still forced a smile and said, "Susan, with the family's support, you must work hard and do your best."
"Thanks, May. I won't let everyone down." Susan replied.
