Chapter 743 Going to Libertonia to Find You
"Yeah. He's the marketing director at our company, very popular, and a lot of women like him."
Anthony found it ironic. So their "fate" was actually facilitated by himself.
"I was wondering why he never dated anyone. Turns out he likes top-tier beauties. Mr. Eilish, don't you think that woman is very pretty? I've seen her, isn't she from MG Company... What, she wouldn't be trying to use Brice to get this project, would she? So scheming."
Anthony's face immediately darkened, "She's not that kind of person!"
"You've only met her twice; you don't really know her. I've seen plenty of women who use men to achieve their goals." Joey's words were filled with disdain and certainty.
"No matter how many women like that there are, she is definitely not one of them," Anthony said coldly.
"Mr. Eilish, you don't know..." Joey wanted to argue a bit more, but seeing Anthony's stern expression, he wisely shut his mouth. "Sorry, I was too presumptuous."
Joey wished he could slap himself. Why did he have to be so talkative? He didn't want to lose this great job just for the sake of a few words.
He thought to himself, 'Brice is really lucky. That woman is stunning. If I didn't want to be used, I would pursue her too.'
Seeing Anthony down an entire glass of red wine in one gulp, seemingly in a bad mood, Joey didn't dare to say more, afraid that he might say something wrong and annoy him further.
Brice dropped Juniper off at her place and looked out the window, "You live here? A single apartment, does that mean you're single?"
Juniper smiled, "Who says living in a single apartment means you're single? Some couples live in them too."
"So which situation are you in?"
"Do I have an obligation to answer that question?" Juniper raised an eyebrow, adding a bit of playfulness.
After chatting today, her impression of Brice had improved. Who doesn't like a humorous, well-mannered, and charming man, especially one who knows his boundaries?
"Sorry, I..."
"Just kidding, I'm currently single."
Brice nodded, "What a coincidence, so am I."
"I'm very busy with work, and I don't have plans to date for now."
"Love isn't something you plan; it's something you encounter. Before meeting you, I also thought I'd focus on my career for the next two years and not date. Of course, I'm not someone who jumps into a relationship impulsively. I'm quite traditional in this regard. I like to start as friends and slowly develop into lovers."
Juniper also liked this approach. In this fast-paced era, not many men have this mindset. Especially in more open countries, people often rush into relationships and break up just as quickly.
She nodded.
"Does this mean that occasionally, when you have time, we could grab a meal or go for a hike on the weekend? I'm pretty good at baseball and squash. Want to give it a try?"
"I'm usually very busy, but if I have time, sure."
Not being directly rejected by a beauty, Brice was already very happy. "Great, I'll contact you a day in advance. If you're free, please honor me with your presence."
Juniper nodded, "Okay."
She was currently in the mindset of making friends. If it developed into something more in the future, that would be a matter for later.
She was no longer so resistant to interacting with men, which was a good thing. She wanted to seize the moment and quickly move on from the quagmire of her past.
But Anthony's mindset was not as carefree as hers.
As soon as he returned to the hotel, he started drinking alone. However, he controlled his intake so it wouldn't affect his work the next day.
Suddenly, his phone rang. It was Hera calling.
She didn't call him very often, but every time she did, Anthony felt a bit annoyed and resistant.
Answering her calls had become his responsibility, and no one likes being forced to fulfill a responsibility.
He answered just before it was about to hang up.
"Why did it take you so long to answer?" Hera sounded a bit complaining.
"Don't tell me you're still working. Your assistant said you returned to the hotel around nine, and it's now eleven. Why haven't you contacted me? What are you doing?"
Anthony frowned, "I don't like being monitored."
"I didn't specifically ask your assistant; we were just chatting. What? Are you nervous? Is there a woman hiding in your hotel room?"
He knew Hera was joking to tease him, but he hated such boring jokes even more.
"If there's nothing else, I'll hang up."
"Did you see the wedding dress photos I sent you today?" Hera quickly asked.
"No time."
"You're lying. Who doesn't check their phone messages when they're free? Not replying promptly means you don't want to reply."
"I'm here to work."
"You can't be working every minute of every day. There must be times when you're not busy, and choosing a wedding dress is such an important thing. Our wedding is coming up soon, and you don't seem to care at all. I'm doing everything myself."
Hera continued, "You asked me to pick out the wedding dress, and that's fine. But when I send you my choice, you don't even look at it or reply. Is this just my wedding?"
"I've said before, as long as you like it, it's fine. You can decide."
"A wedding isn't just one person's affair. I also hope you can be involved. Do you know how important a wedding dress is to a girl? It's the most beautiful dress I'll ever wear."
Anthony pinched the bridge of his nose.
He knew, he also knew he wasn't doing well, but he really wasn't interested. Doing this made him feel annoyed and gave him a strong urge to call off the wedding.
"Are you not speaking because you find me annoying? Do you think I'm nagging like an old lady? Do you think I like being this way? This was supposed to be a happy thing, but you're so uninvolved, leaving everything to me. Anthony, do you not want to get married?"
"You know the answer to that."
Hera probably didn't expect him to be so direct and was suddenly at a loss for words.
"We're already engaged, the invitations have been sent out, and now you're telling me you regret it?"
"I didn't say I regret it. I'll keep my promise to marry you, but I've made it very clear before, that's all there is to it."
"So you're saying I can only have your body, not your heart? Anthony, I've tried very hard. Can't you feel it?"
Anthony said calmly, "Love shouldn't require effort. It makes both sides very tired."
"Why are you suddenly saying this? Did you meet someone over there?"
Anthony didn't speak; he didn't want to lie.
"Say something. Do you know how insecure I feel? I have nightmares every night, dreaming that you're taken away at the wedding, and I wake up terrified, but you're not there."
"Don't think so much during the day, and you won't have those dreams at night."
"That's easy for you to say. You're not the one feeling insecure. I'll say it one last time, the wedding isn't just mine; it's ours. If you keep being so indifferent, I'll come to Libertonia to find you."
