Chapter 310 Starting with Friendship

Joseph was so tall that Layla couldn't reach his phone, which made her anxious.

"Samuel, it's your turn," Joseph said. The phone flew through the air and landed perfectly in Samuel's left hand. Layla, embarrassed, tried to take the phone, but Samuel pulled it away. "I need to keep this as evidence," Samuel said, a smile playing on his lips.

"You can't have it." Layla was frustrated. "Samuel, don't be unreasonable."

"I won't give you the phone, but I'm all yours," Samuel said, his voice low and seductive.

"You..."

"Samuel, just give it to her. Otherwise, she'll get angry again," Joseph said. "I have a backup, and I'll send it to you later. You can listen to it every day or use it as a ringtone, whatever you like."

"You jerk!" Layla couldn't help but curse.

"I call myself clever and resourceful. You said you wanted a fresh start and never be separated from him again. Layla, honesty is important in life. Get along well with Samuel in the future, okay? You two talk, and I'll leave first." Joseph walked away. The door closed. Layla stared at the door, still angry.

"Don't be mad. Here's your phone," Samuel said, handing it to her. Layla became even angrier and took it without a word.

"You only gave it to me because you have a backup, you scoundrel.

"You teamed up with him to bully me. Are you even human? You're both jerks."

"I was wrong, but Layla, I was really happy to see how worried you were about me just now," Samuel said, his face pale but filled with happiness.

"Life is full of surprises, and I don't want to leave with regrets. Give me another chance, please?" He gently held her hand. Layla was silent, her heart in turmoil. After a moment of hesitation, she didn't pull her hand away. "I don't know if I can do it," she said, but she was already deeply shaken.

"Take your time to think about it. I just want a chance. We can work on it together, okay? I'll give you plenty of time, and I won't rush you. We can start as friends if you want."

"Friends..." Layla's fragile resolution wavered. After what happened to him, she became more aware of how important he was to her and how much he loved her. She couldn't bear to give up this relationship... It would be too cruel for Samuel, the child, and her.

Samuel could already see her answer in her eyes, and his hope grew stronger. "Let's not talk about that for now. I'm hungry. What do we have to eat?"

"Let's put some medicine on first."

Layla tried not to think too much and suggested they take it step by step.

"Alright."

It started to rain outside, and the rain grew heavier, accompanied by thunder and lightning.

But inside, there was the warm scent of soup, creating a cozy atmosphere. After finishing the soup, Samuel asked Layla to read him a book. By the time she finished the last sentence, he had already fallen asleep. He looked tired, but his face was relaxed. Layla gently covered him with a blanket and couldn't help but lean in, leaving a light kiss on his forehead.

"Good afternoon." After everything they had been through, he must be very tired, and he needed a good rest. As Layla left the room, she looked up and saw that the rain had stopped, and a brilliant rainbow arched across the sky. Her heart stirred, and she whispered, "Owen, is that you? Can you tell me if I can start over?"

Layla stayed, taking care of Samuel silently every day, occasionally exchanging a few words with Joseph, but she never mentioned leaving again.

One morning, she brought breakfast to Samuel's room, and he was already dressed. He stood there in a long black coat, his inner layer a casual beige outfit, elegant yet casual. What a dazzling man. She was instantly captivated.

"What? Do you think I'm particularly handsome?" Samuel raised an eyebrow, a playful smile on his handsome face. Layla steadied her heartbeat and tried to look away. "I think you're particularly narcissistic." Samuel laughed. "If that's what you think, then it is."

"Are you getting ready to go out?"

"Yes. You've been here for a while, cooped up in the manor. I haven't taken you out. Let's go for a walk today."

"You're still injured."

"I'm much better now. I don't walk with my hands, so it's not a problem. I don't want you to get bored."

Layla was still worried, "But..."

"Just think of it as keeping me company, okay?" Layla found herself unable to resist his pleading gaze, and she softened. "Well, you have to finish your breakfast first."

"Of course." Samuel was happy. "The breakfast you make is the most delicious in the world. When have I ever wasted it?"

'That's true.' Layla thought to herself, but she said, "Don't flatter me. You eat first, and I'll go change."

"Okay." Fifteen minutes later, they met downstairs. Samuel was waiting by the back door, elegant and gentlemanly. To match his attire, Layla gave up her down jacket and wore a red coat outside, with a touch of makeup, making her look vibrant and her skin smooth and radiant.

"You look beautiful." Samuel's gaze was fixed on her, so direct that Layla felt embarrassed and her ears turned red.

"Stop staring at me like that," she mumbled.

"Beautiful things always attract the eye and make people unable to help but admire them," Samuel said.

"When did you become so smooth-tongued?"

"I speak from the heart. How can you call it smooth-tongued?" Samuel's sincerity left Layla speechless. With a face that was the most handsome in the world, everything he said seemed right. If it were another woman, she would probably be overjoyed.

"Let's make it clear, this is not a date."

"Well. Let's just say it's friends hanging out." Samuel knew how to keep things in perspective.

"Okay." She could accept the role of ‘friend’ for now. Throughout the day, Samuel took Layla to visit the Louvre, the Palace of Versailles, and the Arc de Triomphe. Layla took pictures with her phone here and there, but by noon, she was already complaining, "My phone is out of battery, and I forgot to bring the charger."

"Beautiful sceneries should be seen with the eyes, not through a camera," Samuel said. "I have seen it, and the camera captured it for eternity, in case there won't be another chance in the future."

"Why? As long as you want it, I can take you anytime. Or we can live in the city for a month and experience the life of the romantic capital."

"I'm not a rich person. I have to work, and I don't have as much time as you do. Even if we come again in the future, it won't be the same day, the same moment, the same person."

"It may not be the same day or the same moment, but I will be the one who will always be by your side," Samuel said with certainty. Layla didn't respond, pretending to continue taking pictures. It was really hard to resist his sweet talking... When a handsome man made such sincere promises to you, 99% of women would surrender. "Let's take a picture together," Samuel suggested.
