Chapter 531 A 6-Foot-Tall Little Animal

As someone who’s got a soft spot for little critters, how could Susan let this 6-foot-tall “little” guy in front of her stay bummed out?

She couldn’t help but chuckle. “Alright, cut it out. I’m a peacemaker, okay? You’re the one acting like a brat.”

Ever since she became a mom, resisting cuteness was a lost cause.

“Yeah, I’m being a jerk, I’m petty. Isn’t it all your fault?” Caleb shot back.

“My fault for what?” Susan was puzzled.

“For being too damn beautiful, too damn charming, and making me fall head over heels for you. Turning a cold-hearted guy like me into a jealous mess, shouldn’t you feel proud?”

It kinda seemed that way, but Susan wasn’t about to admit it. Who knew what kind of clingy antics he’d pull next? She’d had enough of his top-tier clinginess.

Caleb grabbed both of Susan’s hands, looking all puppy-eyed, “So, are we cool now? No more being mad?”

“Yeah, we’re cool, and I’m not mad anymore.” Susan nodded.

“Knew it, you’re the sweetest, kindest, most beautiful person ever.” Caleb gushed.

Susan shot back, “Yeah, and you’re the most unreasonable and quickest to blow up.”

“Can’t help it; my girl’s too gorgeous, so I gotta be a little possessive.” Caleb wanted to ask if they were officially a thing, but he had plans for a grand, unforgettable confession, like in a fancy restaurant, so they could celebrate anniversaries there instead of munching on cold sandwiches in the park. Though, honestly, anywhere with her was romantic.

“Let’s head home.” Susan said.

“Yeah, I got you.”

In the car, Caleb had one arm around Susan’s shoulder and held her delicate hand with the other, sticking close.

“Caleb…” Susan felt a bit awkward with the closeness.

“Don’t move. This is nice.”

Susan smiled helplessly and let him be.

Caleb was clingier than Oliver, practically a baby.

The driver glanced at them through the rearview mirror. ‘Looks like Caleb and Susan patched things up. Caleb’s got skills.’

As they neared the Wilson Villa, Caleb brought it up, “Oh right, still need help finding a boyfriend for May?”

Susan looked up from his embrace, gazing at his handsome chin. “Did you find someone?”

“Yeah, even though we fought, I didn’t forget your request.” Caleb’s face screamed, “Aren’t I awesome? Praise me already.”

Susan found him childish but adorably so.

“Alright, you’re the best!”

“Where am I the best?” Caleb teased.

“Don’t be a perv.” Susan blushed.

Caleb raised an eyebrow. “Was I? Look at you, thinking dirty thoughts again. How can you be so lewd?”

Susan said, “Seriously, who is it? Someone from the Eilish Group?”

Caleb thought, ‘If it’s someone from the Eilish Group, even if it’s a high-ranking employee, May, being so sensitive and jealous, would feel inferior and unbalanced.’

“Nope, it’s the Vice President of Nova Bank, a top grad from Star University, and also a buddy of mine.”

Susan’s eyes lit up. “Wow, that’s a great match, and May loves highly educated guys.”

Caleb replied, “Yep. I picked him carefully, I think May will be happy with his credentials.”

Susan added, "Good qualifications are important, but the most important thing is that they vibe well and share the same values."

"Like us?"

"Yeah." Considering Caleb had found such a stellar brother-in-law for her, Susan didn't mind humoring him.

"I think so too." Caleb was grinning ear to ear.

Susan smiled. 'Men are so easy to please.'

The Rolls-Royce pulled up in front of the villa.

Susan noticed a white BMW parked out front, with Michael pacing by the door, looking all anxious. As soon as he saw the Rolls-Royce, he walked over.

"I'll handle this." Susan quickly said to Caleb, "You go on inside."

Caleb, even though he wanted to give Michael a piece of his mind, didn't want to start another fight right after making up, so he nodded. "Okay."

Susan got out of the car.

"Susan, where did you go? I couldn't find you when I got back, and you didn't answer your phone. I was worried sick." Michael looked frazzled. "Is that... Mr. Eilish? Why did you come back in his car? Was there an emergency at work?"

But Michael still felt something was off.

"Sorry, I left without telling you, made you worry." Susan apologized.

"Yeah, I was so worried. I didn't want to alarm your parents, so I didn't go inside. But I'm glad you're back safe." Michael replied.

"I'm fine." Susan thought about Caleb reminding her that Michael liked her. She didn't want to bring it up, but to avoid further misunderstandings, she asked, "You got divorced."

Michael was stunned. "How did you know?" After a few seconds, he quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hide it from you, I just..."

He should have told her earlier, now she must think he was deceiving her.

"It's okay, it's your business. It's normal not to say anything, and it doesn't affect our friendship." Susan emphasized friendship to test Michael's reaction.

"Yeah, friendship." Michael said, looking deflated.

"I'll go inside now."

"Susan. I like you." Michael finally blurted out.

Something Susan didn't want to happen still happened. 'How could Caleb's intuition be so spot-on?'

Thinking back, his previous concerns weren't entirely unfounded. Sometimes men were more sensitive than women, especially when it came to spotting rivals in love.

It was already good that Caleb didn't punch Michael.

Susan turned back. "Michael, I only see you as a friend."

"Yeah, I know. Is it because you always thought I was married? So we could only be friends. Now you know I'm single and childless, and I like you. I've always wanted to tell you the truth, but for some reason, I just couldn't find the right moment. Okay, I admit I had selfish thoughts, maybe this way I could get closer to you. Such thoughts are really foolish." Michael shook his head. "Anyway, now everything is clear. I'm not in a hurry, so we can start as friends."

"We're not possible." Susan said bluntly.

Michael asked, "Why? Because you have a child? It's okay, I'll treat Oliver as my own. I'm not just saying this, in fact, I can't have children, so if we get married, we can only adopt. If it's your child, that would be the best. We would only have one child, so you don't have to worry about me treating Oliver badly."

"I'm sorry." Susan felt sorry for him in this matter.

"Don't get me wrong. I just wanted to explain my situation, and I'm not in a hurry for your answer. Feelings need to be nurtured, so we can start as friends." Michael tried hard to persuade.
