Chapter 887 The Bitterness in Their Hearts

"All these years, you've been living for the Elise family and Brynn. It's been so unfair to you. Now that you're grown and capable of standing on your own, I can't limit your development—that would be too selfish."

"So, I've decided to give you full control of the Novaria branch and make you its CEO. It's a new company with great potential, and you can fully showcase your abilities."

Although Atticus was separating them, his feelings for Eldon were genuine. The company was his way of showing gratitude and making amends.

Eldon felt suffocated.

He didn't want a company or development; he just wanted to stay by Brynn's side forever, watching her smile.

But deep down, he always knew that was just a luxury.

This day was bound to come, he just didn't expect it so soon.

He understood Atticus's intention—he wasn't worthy of Brynn. Brynn should marry a man of equal status.

Better to rip the band-aid off quickly than prolong the pain.

Eldon forced a smile, "Thank you, Mr. Elise. I won't let you down."

He said this with a heart-wrenching pain.

Atticus could sense how forced his smile was. Separating them like this was cruel, but he told himself it was for the best for both of them. Eldon would be grateful in the future when he had developed his career.

Atticus patted his shoulder, "You should go next week."

Next week...

That meant he only had one week left with his Brynn.

Eldon's heart bled, his throat tightened, and he felt a sour liquid welling up.

"Mr. Elise, I'll be going now."

Eldon walked out of the room and immediately leaned against the wall.

The heartache was unbearable, almost making him lose his balance. His weak body swayed.

His fingernails dug into his flesh one by one.

"Eldon, where did you go? I didn't see you when I woke up." Brynn looked at him dependently.

"I went to get your medicine." Eldon said, hiding his pain and pretending to be normal.

"Medicine again? I don't want to take it." Brynn immediately frowned, "I hate taking medicine the most. I don't want to take it. Can I skip it?"

"No, you can't. Be good, you're not fully recovered yet." Eldon coaxed her, "Just take it today and tomorrow, and then you won't have to take it anymore, okay? You need to take your medicine on time to get better. If you delay, you'll just have to take more medicine."

"Alright. Will you stay with me tomorrow?"

"Yes."

"You're so good." Brynn hugged his waist tightly, pressing her face against his chest.

Eldon's throat felt even tighter. He couldn't bear to push her away. They only had a little time left together, so he let himself indulge for once. He really had no other choice.

"Take your medicine."

After a long hug, Eldon finally said, bringing the medicine to her mouth.

Brynn closed her eyes and swallowed it painfully in one gulp.

Eldon chuckled, "Is taking medicine really that painful?"

"It's more than painful; it's pure torture."

"Who told you not to take care of yourself and get a fever?"

"I didn't want to. Honestly, sometimes I come back at night to work on documents. Maybe I've never been this tired before, so I got a fever."

"You're so disobedient. Didn't I tell you to stop thinking about work once you leave the office?"

"Are you scolding me?" Brynn pretended to be very aggrieved.

"I'm just worried about you." Eldon frowned.

"Well, I didn't expect myself to be so delicate. Maybe I'm just a natural-born princess who can't handle any stress."

"So, you should take good care of yourself, rest more, and don't overwork. Your health is what your dad and I care about the most."

"Alright, alright, I get it. It's just a fever, you and my dad are too worried. Seriously, you're so nagging. Your future girlfriend will definitely find you annoying."

At this, Brynn couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy.

Actually, it wasn't just this time. Every time she thought about Eldon having a girlfriend and treating another girl as well as he treated her, she felt jealous.

But she told herself she couldn't be so petty. Eldon wasn't her possession; he should have his own life, his own love, and his future wife. She couldn't monopolize him.

But how long could this kind of life last?

Even one more day would be good. She really couldn't bear to let go.

Actually, Eldon felt the same way. But Brynn's dependence on him was just familial, without any other feelings.

In a week, he would leave, and he couldn't bear to tell her the truth.

With the little time left, they should make the most of it.

Eldon no longer held back, following his heart, and hugged Brynn tightly.

"The Elise Group called to say you can go over to sign the contract. Congratulations on securing another project."

In the office, Juniper was slightly surprised to hear Kieran say this. She didn't expect Brynn to come around so quickly. She knew Brynn had a bit of a temper but wasn't unreasonable.

Feeling pleased, Juniper said proudly, "I can't help it; I'm just that good. Whenever I take action, there's no project I can't secure."

"Young lady, you're quite proud," Kieran teased.

"This isn't pride; it's confidence in my abilities."

"Well, you are naturally talented in economics. If you were a man, you'd be even more remarkable."

"What's wrong with being a woman? There are so many female entrepreneurs now, and they're no less capable than men."

"It's not that women are less capable, but they often have to take care of their families more."

"That's true." In a couple of years, she would have children, so she needed to focus on her career now.

"Speaking of which, since you're so amazing, shouldn't you show some appreciation to your teacher?"

"Sure, I'll buy you a cup of coffee tomorrow at noon."

Kieran pretended to be hurt, "Just a cup of coffee? Future CEO, you're too stingy."

"Come on, I'm just a poor employee right now. You earn more than I do, Mr. Morgan!"

"My rank is nothing compared to the future CEO. I can't compete."

"And you're still my mentor."

"Then shouldn't you treat your mentor to a meal? Do I have to spell it out?" Kieran joked, "You're making me feel like a beggar. It's too pitiful."

"Why are you so clueless?"

Juniper couldn't help but laugh, "Alright, alright, it's just a meal. I was teasing you. I'll treat you."

"But it can't be just any meal. It has to be a feast, a five-star hotel, a meal costing thousands of dollars."

"Now you're being unreasonable. My monthly salary isn't that much. You want to eat half my month's salary in one meal? That's too cruel. Street food, simple meals, regular restaurants, take your pick."

"Your stinginess is as strong as your earning ability." Kieran shook his head.

"Do you accept?"

"I accept." Juniper was impressive; her negotiation skills were top-notch. "You're amazing." Kieran gave her a thumbs-up.

"Of course, my mentor taught me well."

Kieran almost spat out blood. When did he teach her to be stingy?

That was definitely not his doing!
