Chapter 886 Let Him Leave
"No, no, you were so gentle, you didn't hurt me." Brynn was afraid Eldon would see through her chaotic thoughts. After all, Eldon knew her better than anyone in the world.
Changing the subject, she said, "By the way, did you look at the Cooper Group's project proposal? How is it? Is it really better than the other companies?"
Eldon nodded, "In terms of project planning, design, and profitability, as well as company strength, it's the best."
Brynn bit her lip hesitantly, "So... if I refuse to cooperate just because I dislike Juniper, would that be too capricious?"
Although she had always had a princess-like temperament and was often lackadaisical at work, she had never been that willful.
Especially after witnessing Juniper's capabilities, she began to constantly reflect on herself.
Eldon's heart softened even more, and he smiled, "No. If you don't like her, there's no need to interact with her. Although the Cooper Group is the top choice, overall, it doesn't make much difference. Your feelings are more important."
"I know you're good to me, but that makes me feel even more inferior to Juniper. She can independently manage a project, while I'm still throwing tantrums over personal grudges."
The more Brynn thought about it, the more she felt the gap between herself and Juniper.
She grabbed Eldon's hand, "How about this, Eldon? For this project, don't consider me. Just think from the company's perspective. If you want to choose her, then choose her, okay?"
"Okay." Eldon patted her head, "Our Brynn has grown up and matured."
"Just a compliment for that? Juniper can handle everything on her own."
"Didn't I just say? You are different people. You don't need to force yourself to compare with her. You are already great."
"But I just spend money every day, idle and aimless, with no life goals. Isn't that just wasting time?"
Brynn thought for a moment, "I've decided. I will start working seriously. Eldon, you teach me from now on."
"If you're not interested in business, don't force yourself. Your happiness is more important. Mr. Elise thinks so too."
"But I can't just be happy-go-lucky. I'll start learning, and maybe I'll get interested later." Brynn envisioned, "Becoming a strong woman seems pretty cool."
"Do you really want to learn?"
Brynn nodded vigorously, "Yes, yes, yes."
"Alright, I'll teach you."
"Eldon, you're the best. With you by my side, I have nothing to worry about!" Brynn happily threw herself into Eldon's arms and hugged him tightly.
Eldon's heart was stirred. He loved her scent, her warmth, everything about her.
How could he bear to let go?
But he had to let go, and could only hold on tighter to the present moment.
A few days later.
At the breakfast table in the Elise Villa.
"Why hasn't Brynn come down for breakfast yet?" Brynn's father, Atticus, asked. "Even if she sleeps in, she usually eats breakfast first."
"Brynn has been working so hard lately. Let her sleep a bit more, it's rare that it's the weekend." Brynn's mother, Celestia, said with a smile.
"I don't know what got into her recently. Suddenly, she's so diligent, going to work on time every day, working hard at the company, and asking Eldon to teach her. I don't get it."
"Isn't it good that Brynn is motivated?"
"It's good, but I don't want her to be too tired. I sent her to the company just to regulate her schedule, not to make her work so hard."
"You spoil her too much."
"A father spoiling his daughter is only natural," Atticus said.
Still not seeing her come down by ten, Atticus went upstairs to knock on her door.
"Brynn?"
"Brynn?"
"Sweetheart, are you awake? Have breakfast before going back to sleep?"
"Brynn?" Atticus knocked and entered, finding Brynn still lying in bed.
"My little princess, why are you still sleeping? It's already late."
"Are you hungry? Should I have the maid bring breakfast up?"
"Brynn?"
Atticus walked closer and noticed Brynn's flushed face, "What's wrong?"
"Dad, I'm so hot, so dizzy."
Atticus touched Brynn's forehead, "You're burning up."
"You have a fever!"
"Yasmin, Yasmin! Brynn has a fever, call the doctor."
"Yes, Mr. Elise, right away."
"I don't want a doctor... I... I want Eldon... Dad, I want Eldon... Call him..."
"I want him..."
"See the doctor first..."
"I don't care, I just want Eldon, Dad..."
"Alright, I'll call him now."
Eldon arrived quickly and stayed by her bedside.
In the middle of the night, Atticus got up to check on Brynn.
He gently pushed open a crack in the door and saw Brynn leaning against Eldon, who was holding her and kissing her forehead.
"Eldon... it's so good to have you here," Brynn murmured in her sleep.
Atticus frowned and quietly returned to his room.
"Honey, what's wrong? You seem distracted this morning," his wife Celestia asked.
"Is Eldon still taking care of Brynn?"
"Yes, he stayed up all night. I offered to take over, but he said no. He's so good to Brynn. With him taking care of her, I feel at ease."
"This can't go on," Atticus shook his head.
"What? Why? Haven't they always been like this?"
"That was when they were kids. Now they're grown up, and it's inappropriate. Brynn relies heavily on Eldon, and I don't think Eldon sees her just as a family member. If we let this continue, I'm afraid other feelings will develop."
Celestia had never thought about it that way, but now she realized.
"Eldon is a good kid, but..."
"He's great and has done a lot for Brynn. I could take him in as a foster son, but he and Brynn... that's absolutely not possible," Atticus said firmly. "Brynn should marry someone of equal status."
"Yes, it's a pity. But they've been together since they were kids. Separating them now would be too cruel. Brynn won't be willing."
"She has to be willing. If we let this develop, it will be even harder to control later. Better to have short-term pain than long-term pain. I'll talk to Eldon."
Having made up his mind, Atticus called Eldon into his room that afternoon, poured him a cup of tea, and asked kindly, "How many years have you been with the Elise family?"
"Twelve years."
"Yes, time flies. You were only thirteen when you came, and Brynn was twelve. You were about the same age. I was busy with work and couldn't take care of her, so you were always with her. Even during those years abroad, you never left her side. You've done a lot for this family and for Brynn."
"It's my duty. Without you, I wouldn't be where I am today."
"Don't be so formal. I've always considered you a foster son. So, I must think about your future."
Eldon suddenly realized something, and his heart tightened, but he said nothing, waiting for Atticus to continue.
