Chapter 705 Maybe She Has a Crush on You
Mira was super pissed and totally lashed out at Terry. "Terry, why the hell didn't you back me up?"
Terry shot back, "Didn't back you up? If I hadn't stepped in, you'd still be in there making a scene. You wanna get canned?"
Mira snapped, "She messed up, not me. Why should I be the one getting the boot?"
Terry sighed, "Because you were way outta line and disrespected Mr. Eilish. Lucky for you, he's got the patience of a saint. Anyone else would've fired you a hundred times over with that attitude."
"I was just being honest."
"Doesn't matter if you were honest or not. Your attitude stunk. As a secretary, you serve Mr. Eilish. Whatever he decides, we follow, no arguments, no fights." Terry was only this patient with Mira. Anyone else, and he would've fired them on the spot without Anthony lifting a finger. "You used to get this and did a great job. What's up with you lately? You've been acting all irrational, and it's not like you."
He was talking about the time before Juniper showed up.
Back then, even though the job was tough, she felt like Anthony was hers, and just seeing him every day made her happy.
But Juniper's arrival wrecked all that peace. She stole Anthony's heart, and he became someone who couldn't see right from wrong, always siding with her. How could Mira be cool with that?
Terry said, "If you're not feeling it, go home and chill for half a month. You haven't taken a break in years."
"I don't need a break. I can handle it." Mira quickly grabbed Terry's hand and pleaded, "Terry, can you please ask Mr. Eilish for me? I wanna go on the business trip with him."
"With you hobbling around like that, you'll freak out the clients. Are you taking care of Mr. Eilish, or is he taking care of you?"
"I... but it shouldn't be that bitch Juniper!" Mira spat.
Terry was stunned. It was the first time he'd heard Mira curse, and with such nasty words.
For the first time, he seriously felt how much resentment, even hatred, she had towards Juniper.
Could it be...
No, Terry didn't wanna believe Mira would do something like that. If she did, he'd be seriously bummed.
Terry reminded her, "Mira, you're really off your game right now. I don't care what beef you have with Juniper. You shouldn't bring it to work. It's already messing with your job. Haven't you noticed?"
"I..."
Terry continued, "You're super agitated and hostile right now. If this keeps up, I won't be able to cover for you. You're my top assistant, and I'm really happy with your work. I've put a lot into you, and I don't wanna lose my best assistant. Take these three days to chill at home and think it over. I hope you can get back to your usual self. Don't make it come to that."
Terry said seriously and then walked off.
Mira thought, 'Come to what? Fire me? Even Terry's thinking about firing me? He's the one who always has my back. If even he thinks that way, then if Anthony wants to fire me in the future, no one will stand up for me. Why am I getting threatened when it's clearly not my fault? Juniper, damn you!'
Mira felt totally crushed.
In the office.
There was silence for about five minutes.
"Not talking?" Anthony said calmly.
Juniper pursed her lips and mumbled, "I don't have the right to speak."
Anthony smirked, "You know, Mira's got a solid rep around here. If you two are beefing, what does that say?"
"It says she hates me," Juniper pouted.
Anthony raised an eyebrow, "So, it's all her fault?"
"Is it my fault then? Mr. Eilish, I know I'm easy to envy, and girls tend to have a bias against me, but I never start stuff. I hate drama. So, saying I hit her? Nah, I don't buy that. I didn't hit her."
Anthony pressed on, "Then how'd she get hurt? She just tripped over her own feet?"
"I said I didn't hit her, but I didn't say I wouldn't defend myself. She grabbed my hair, so I pushed her back, and then she fell." Juniper mimicked the scene with her arms.
Anthony was both amused and exasperated.
Juniper was always so lively and carefree.
Mira had been fuming, her eyes red with anger, but Juniper acted like it was no big deal, even reenacting the whole thing with such energy.
In a way, that was a good thing. He didn't have to worry about her.
Anthony asked, "So, why did Mira grab your hair?"
"Maybe 'cause I'm better at my job than she is, and she feels threatened, scared I'll take her spot?"
Anthony shot back, "There have been other secretaries before, and Mira taught them all personally. Everyone speaks highly of her. She doesn't seem like the type to target you for that."
"Then she must be jealous of my looks."
Anthony stifled a laugh. "Mira's not ugly."
Juniper retorted, "She's not ugly, but Mr. Eilish, you gotta admit I'm prettier. It's natural for women to be jealous of someone more beautiful. I've been envied all my life, so I'm used to it."
"I don't see it that way."
Juniper said, "Then there's only one possibility left."
"What?" Anthony raised an eyebrow.
"Nothing. I was just talking nonsense."
Anthony said, "I hate it when people don't finish their sentences. Spill it."
"Maybe she has a crush on you." But Juniper wasn't sure. The other female employees in the company were all infatuated with Anthony and often gossiped about him, but Mira never joined in. She just worked, like a robot without feelings.
But when they fought, Mira was very womanly!
Anthony recalled the moment when Mira invited him upstairs for coffee. Did that count?
Anthony asked, "She has a crush on me. What does that have to do with you?"
"The company is buzzing with rumors about us." Juniper's voice grew quieter.
Anthony usually hated such boring gossip, but since it involved her, he was intrigued. "What are they saying?"
"Nothing much, just some baseless speculations. Yeah, just guesses, and they're pretty nasty. You wouldn't want to hear them."
Anthony said, "If I'm asking, it means I want to hear. Spill it."
Juniper scratched her head awkwardly.
Anthony threatened, "Do you want me to send Terry to dig around?"
"That's not necessary. You can probably guess. They're saying I have poor character, dating Ronnie while messing around with you. Some even say I used witchcraft on you, which is why you were biased towards me last time. It's all just their wild imaginations."
Anthony squinted slightly and asked, "Do you think I was biased towards you?"
Honestly, Juniper did feel that way. But she didn't want to say it too confidently. She thought, 'What if he immediately denies it, saying he isn't? That will be awkward, just wishful thinking on her part.'
So she shook her head without hesitation and replied, "Mr. Eilish, you're a man of integrity. You would never be biased towards anyone."
