Chapter 247 Foolish Self-torture
Caleb gazed at her as if she were a prideful and ridiculous beggar.
But Susan realized that she no longer felt anything. Perhaps she had been humiliated by him so much that she had become numb.
Ignoring his mocking gaze, she spoke seriously, "Mr. Eilish, you've misunderstood. I'm not asking you to give the project to me, but rather I hope you can entrust it to my colleague. You met my colleague that day, the main designer for this five-star project, Layla. She's very talented, and I believe..."
Caleb suddenly became angry. He waved his hand, causing the glass to fly out and smash against the wall, spilling the drink all over the floor.
Everyone was startled and didn't dare say a word.
On the other hand, sitting next to Caleb, Susan remained calm. She had gotten used to Caleb and did not expect him to be as gentle as he used to be.
"Susan, are you out of your mind? Why do you think I would listen to your orders?" he said.
She wanted to avoid him, but she also wanted this job. It was too greedy of her.
She was even more cunning and greedy than he had thought, but he wouldn't be stupid enough to let her have her way like before.
"I am not ordering you around, I just don't want to waste Layla's talent, and she has put a lot of effort into this project..." she said.
Caleb gave her an impatient look. "Stop giving me these excuses. Just tell me, how much money can you make from this? Fifty percent? Seventy percent?"
"I don't want money."
"You think I would believe you?" Caleb squeezed her cheeks, his fingers exerting force, causing her cheeks to sink in. Her mouth was forced open.
Caleb angrily stared at this face, the more he looked, the more detestable it became. He felt the urge to tear her apart.
"Listen carefully, I won't let you manipulate me again."
Susan couldn't help but sneer.
This was also what she wanted to say to him. She wouldn't let him deceive her anymore.
"This is just a suggestion. Mr. Eilish, since you don't intend to, I won't force it. I won't bother you anymore," Susan said, pushing Caleb's hand away and standing up.
But as she turned her head, a man in a suit blocked her way.
"You want to leave after ruining Mr. Eilish's mood? It won't be that easy."
"Yeah, acting all high and mighty in front of Mr. Eilish. Bitch," one of the women mocked.
"This kind of woman needs a lesson."
"Drink or you won't be able to leave."
A whole bottle of whiskey was placed in front of Susan.
They deliberately made things difficult for her.
Susan instinctively looked at Caleb. However, he just took the glass of whiskey handed to him and drank it. His gaze was chilling. "For a woman who often socializes, a bottle of whiskey is nothing, is it?"
Susan realized her mistake. She shouldn’t hold any hope for this man, as he was the one who wanted to torment her the most.
She forced a smile. "Mr. Eilish is a distinguished figure. Why bother getting angry at a woman like me?"
"Because I want to punish you today!" Caleb slammed the glass of whiskey down on the table.
The loud noise was an undeniable command.
Dozens of eyes looked at Susan with anticipation.
She couldn't escape.
If she didn't drink this bottle of whiskey, she couldn't get away today.
Susan felt angry. Impulsively, she grabbed the bottle and brought it to her mouth.
She drank it quickly, the burning whiskey scorching her tongue and throat. She felt extremely uncomfortable, almost spitting out the drink in one gulp.
But she held back, swallowed that mouthful of whiskey, and continued to drink desperately.
The alcohol leaked from her mouth, dripping in front of her. Her white sweater became wet, sticking to her body tightly.
Several young gentlemen became intensely excited as they stared at her.
Having already consumed half a bottle of alcohol, Susan couldn't bear it any longer. She coughed violently as if she was going to cough up blood.
"Oh, you were so impressive in the beginning. I thought you could hold your alcohol. What happened?"
"Yeah, she was just pretending."
"Don't play the innocent. Drink up quickly. Mr. Eilish said if you don't finish this bottle today, you won't leave here."
"I don't think she even wants to leave. She's just putting on a show."
"I think so too."
"She's shameless, acting like this at her age."
Susan was extremely uncomfortable, and the mocking comments around her became less clear and somewhat blurry.
However, amidst her extreme discomfort, Caleb's face became even clearer.
He frowned and stared at her with a cold, indifferent gaze as if her life or death had nothing to do with him. He even seemed to wish for her death.
Maybe he hated her, and he would only be happy if she died.
Thinking of this, Susan's heart ached even more. But she also became more stubborn, fueled by a strong determination, and continued drinking as if in defiance.
She would not be defeated in front of him, absolutely not!
Caleb smoked fiercely. He inhaled the nicotine into his lungs but grew more restless.
Damn it!
She clearly couldn't handle it, yet she continued to drink excessively. Was she trying to show off or deliberately defying him? This was foolish self-torture!
Even if she drank herself to death, it had nothing to do with Caleb. Why did she...
Caleb knew he shouldn't intervene. If she wanted to die, he would watch her die. It had nothing to do with him.
But his mouth couldn't help but twitch. Several times, he couldn't help but want to tell her to stop drinking.
Seeing her stubborn appearance, Caleb restrained himself. His hand holding the cigarette trembled.
The woman beside him noticed that all of Caleb's attention was focused on Susan. She appeared very jealous. She moved closer and brought a glass of alcohol to Caleb's mouth, making a great effort to divert his attention. "Mr. Eilish, isn't it more fun to watch the show while drinking?"
The woman's voice was soft, her tone pleasing, and her hand skillfully touched his leg. Both the way she spoke and her actions were very professional. If it were any other man, they probably would have succumbed.
But Caleb was not an ordinary man, his eyes were only fixed on Susan.
He was very angry.
"Mr. Eilish..." The woman boldly tried to hold onto his arm and act coquettishly, but Caleb shoved her away. "Get lost!"
The woman fell to the ground, looking very embarrassed.
She was going to die; She really was going to die. Susan's mind was filled with this thought.
However, in these past few years, she had already endured too much suffering. She treated this whiskey as all those hardships and swallowed them all. She was a strong mother and nothing could or would knock her down.
With this thought, Susan finished the last sip of alcohol in one breath.
Closing her eyes, she suppressed the urge to vomit and turned the wine glass upside down, not spilling a drop. "Mr. Eilish, can I leave now?"
