Chapter 800 Endure One Last Time
But just as Charles was getting closer, he suddenly received a heavy kick to his groin.
He let out a piercing scream, clutching his crotch and squatting down, nearly falling to his knees. His face contorted in pain, "You, you bitch—"
That kick was so satisfying.
Juniper felt great and laughed, "How does it feel? Enjoying it?"
"You..."
"You don't respect women and have harassed me repeatedly. This is your karma."
"I, I won't let you get away with this," Charles said through gritted teeth.
"You won't let me get away? How exactly? You should be begging me to let you go. There are cameras here, and they've recorded all your harassment. If it happens again, I'll report you to the company!"
"You, don't be so arrogant. I have dirt on you."
"Getting into Mr. Eilish's car is dirt? You think you can frame me with that? But your shameless behavior is all recorded on the cameras. Who do you think will get kicked out of the company first?"
The elevator arrived, and Juniper walked in like a queen.
"You damn woman, I won't let you get away with this, never..." Charles swore through gritted teeth.
At that moment, a few mocking laughs came from behind him.
---
That evening, at a bar, Charles was downing drinks one after another.
The male colleagues who had witnessed Juniper kicking him a few days ago were all mocking him.
"Hey Charles, your balls still functional, or is it retirement time?"
"Do you need to go to the hospital for a check-up?"
"Does this count as a work injury?"
"I'd say you deserved it. Of all the women to hit on, you chose someone else's girlfriend."
"That Juniper is famously classy and cold. She's not as easy to deal with as other women."
"Yeah, you picked a rose with thorns. You deserved to get pricked!"
"I advise you to give up. You can't handle that woman. She's got a strong personality; don't make trouble for yourself."
"I can't handle her? There's no woman I can't handle," Charles said angrily, taking a swig of his drink, his green eyes filled with wolf-like ambition.
He added, "You think that woman is some kind of saint? She's already hooked up with Mr. Eilish."
"No way, you can't just make stuff up like that."
"Yeah, if Mr. Eilish hears about this, your job will be on the line."
Charles, being a prideful person, wouldn't back down in front of his friends.
He rolled his eyes dismissively, "I'm not making this up. It's a fact. I saw her get into Mr. Eilish's car with my own eyes."
"Getting into his car doesn't mean anything. Maybe they were talking about work. After all, Mr. Eilish knows she's Brice's girlfriend. He wouldn't mess with his own subordinate..."
"Is she pretty?"
"Of course, she's pretty. She was voted the most beautiful woman in the company on the men's forum."
"Exactly, no man can resist a beautiful woman, especially one who's smart and cunning. She's much more formidable than we think."
Charles squinted his eyes, "She thinks she's hiding her relationship with Mr. Eilish well, but I found out. It's already good enough that I haven't used this secret to threaten Mr. Eilish."
"He just escaped a marriage, and if another scandal breaks out, his reputation will take an even bigger hit."
Charles wanted to do just that, but he also wanted to keep his job and didn't dare to offend Anthony.
"There's nothing you can do. Even if they have something going on, you have to keep it to yourself and not say a word."
"I'm not going to take this lying down. If I can't deal with Mr. Eilish, I can still deal with a woman," Charles said unwillingly.
"Do you have a plan?"
"Don't do anything rash."
"Just wait and see."
---
The next day, Charles, uncharacteristically, didn't harass Juniper but kept causing her trouble at work, nitpicking her work for no reason.
Juniper protested, "You're seriously delaying progress."
"I'm just being responsible for this project. I don't want to share the blame with you if something goes wrong."
"The data I provided, even every word in this document, is flawless. You're just nitpicking."
"Who says it's flawless? If I say there's a mistake, there's a mistake. If I say it needs to be changed, it needs to be changed. Is this the extent of your ability?"
"How did your company assign you to such a big project? Was it because of a man? Oh right, I remember your boss at your previous company was a man, almost fifty, right?" Charles said with a meaningful smile.
Juniper wanted to slap his face, "Show some respect."
"To earn respect, you have to see if your actions are worthy of respect or contempt and suspicion," Charles retorted.
"Brice was just bewitched by you, so he let things slide. But I'm a strict person. You can't get away with anything. Keep changing it until I'm satisfied."
"My work is fine. I'm not changing it. If you're not satisfied, report it to the higher-ups and let them see if there's anything wrong with my work," Juniper said, not wanting to argue with him.
"The higher-ups you mean Mr. Eilish, right? Juniper, do you think all the men in the company are your backers, so you dare to be so arrogant?"
"And you say there's nothing shady between you and Mr. Eilish. Who would believe that? It's obvious you have an improper relationship."
Juniper mentally cursed him and continued working.
In two days, she was almost driven crazy by Charles' nitpicking, and they had several big arguments.
Fortunately, it was the last day. Tomorrow, her beloved Brice would be back, and she wouldn't have to face this disgusting lunatic anymore.
On the last day, Juniper was both anxious and excited.
"Tonight, there's a business dinner."
"What business dinner? That's your personal business dinner. You go by yourself."
At the end of the workday, Juniper felt like a lark escaping its cage, excited and unwilling to spend another second with Charles.
"This is not a personal dinner. These are people we'll be working with on the project. What, in such a hurry to run away?"
"Brice takes over tomorrow, but today I'm still your partner. We have to complete all the work together. You can't shirk your responsibilities," Charles said in a somewhat commanding tone.
Juniper hated business dinners, especially with Charles. She always felt unsafe.
But he was right; until today, she couldn't separate herself from him. Anything related to the project, she had to be involved in.
Her excitement was dampened, and she became even more irritated.
Reluctantly, she told herself to endure it. Just get through tonight's dinner.
---
At the dinner, people kept trying to get Juniper to drink. She declined, but they were insistent, saying that not drinking was disrespectful and showed a lack of sincerity in cooperation, leaving her helpless.
In the past, Brice would go to these dinners alone or shield her from drinking if she had to go.
But now, Charles wasn't drinking much and seemed to be enjoying watching her get forced to drink. She had no way out.
