Chapter 839 One Home, Two CEOs
Elara immediately jumped up and said, "What are you guys going to talk about? I want to go too."
"Why are you coming along?"
"What can't I hear? What can't I know? I'm part of this family too, and I have the right to know." Elara thought it must be about the will, so she had to follow. She couldn't let Juniper take advantage.
"I'm just going to have a private conversation with Juniper. You don't need to get involved."
Juniper stood up and brushed past Elara.
"You..."
Elara was seething with anger.
In the study.
"Dad, what's up?"
"Have you considered quitting your job in Harmony City and coming back to develop your career here?"
Juniper had guessed he would say this. Aaron was bound to bring it up sooner or later.
"You see, I'm getting old, and my health hasn't been great lately. The company can't always be managed by outsiders, so I hope you can join the company as soon as possible."
"But I don't have enough experience..." Juniper was a bit worried.
"Experience comes with time. You studied finance and have work experience. As long as you're willing to learn, you'll pick it up quickly. After all, my daughter is smart." Aaron was confident.
"When you join the company, I'll find someone to mentor you, guide you step by step. And you won't start as the president right away. I can arrange for you to be the general manager first, take it slow. After a year or two, when you have enough experience and confidence, you can move up."
"Our family doesn't have a preference for sons over daughters. I've always said the company is yours. Since you'll take over eventually, it's better to start sooner rather than later, don't you think?"
Juniper nodded.
"Does that mean you agree?" Aaron's eyes lit up.
Juniper sighed, "What choice do I have? I'm grown up now. I can't keep living under your wing, letting you protect me. It's my turn to protect you now."
"My daughter is so sensible. I'm proud of you."
Juniper smiled, "I haven't even joined the company yet. I might not do well. Don't have too much confidence in me; I'll feel pressured."
"Pressure is good; it drives progress. But don't put too much pressure on yourself. Take it slow. As long as you're willing to learn, it doesn't matter if it takes a bit longer. I have complete faith in you."
"Thanks, Dad. I'll do my best not to let you down."
Just as she finished speaking, Elara burst in, shouting, "I object!"
"The company isn't yours. What are you objecting to? You have no say."
"I'm your wife. Half of the Cooper Group is mine. How do I not have a say?" Elara objected, "Are you planning to hand the company over to her now?"
"That's right."
"Then Saffron should join the company too," Elara said anxiously.
"Saffron studied art. What can she do in the company? Juniper has a finance background and has worked at a big company in Libertonia. She has the capability."
Elara realized that Juniper had studied finance for this day, to join the Cooper Group! She regretted not having Saffron study finance from the start.
"Nowadays, how many people work in their field of study? Why can't someone who studied art join the Cooper Group? You said Juniper can learn, so why can't Saffron? Saffron is very smart; she'll learn quickly and be better than her."
"Her? She studied art for four years and didn't learn anything. If you hadn't paid off the principal, she wouldn't have even graduated. Besides shopping, eating, and having afternoon tea, what else can she do?" Juniper said.
"Girls should be raised well. Just because she spends money doesn't mean she can't work. Don't look down on her!"
"Aaron, they're both your daughters. You can't be biased!" Elara shouted.
"I know Saffron's capabilities. She hasn't worked a day in her life and is too pampered to handle it. What's wrong with being a little princess at home? We give her money and take care of her; she doesn't have to work hard."
"Don't make it sound so nice. You just don't want her in the company because you're afraid Juniper can't compete with her."
Aaron shook his head, "I've already decided. Saffron isn't suited for work. Once she's rested, we'll find her a husband. If she can't get married, I'll take care of her."
Elara angrily asked, "So you want her to be a useless person?"
"Isn't she already?" Juniper sneered.
Elara herself was useless; what capable daughter could she raise?
"Dad, I'm going back to my room."
"Alright. Get some rest. Report to the company next week."
As Juniper left the room, she could still hear Elara making a scene.
Later, when she called Anthony, she told him about it.
"I'm planning to resign this week and join the company next week."
"Have you thought it through? Isn't it too rushed? Don't think too much about others; just consider what you need. Don't force yourself to do something you don't want to."
"I'm not forcing myself. After weighing the options, I think this is better. Working for someone else is still working. I might as well join my family's company, get familiar with the business, and get up to speed quickly."
"You don't have to be too strong. The family doesn't need two presidents."
Juniper's eyes lit up, "Oh, right, there really would be two presidents. That's pretty amazing!"
"Yeah. Providing for the family is more suited for men. I'd prefer you to stay home and take care of the family."
"But I also have the ambition to be a female president."
"But if both of us are busy with work, we won't be able to take care of the kids."
Juniper thought for a moment and then said with a laugh, "Then you'll have to stay home and take care of the kids."
"Is that okay?"
"What's wrong with that? I think it's great. I'll be the breadwinner, and you'll take care of the kids. It's the new era; it's trendy for men to stay home."
"If you like it, I can do that. Taking care of kids is nice too."
"Oh my gosh, you actually agreed. I was joking." Juniper laughed, "The Eilish Group people wouldn't let me off. It's a bit far off to talk about this now. We'll plan when the time comes. For now, I'll join the company and see how long I can last. I can't just sit idle; it's easy to overthink."
"Yeah, staying busy is good, but make sure to rest and not overwork yourself."
"I know. By the way, did your dad get mad when you went back? Tell me the truth, was he very angry?"
Anthony replied, "He wasn't very angry, but his attitude was firm. After all, older generations have more conservative views."
"I know. It's just my bad luck. Spend more time with him this week. We should see each other less. I'm busy with my resignation procedures anyway."
"What if I miss you?"
"We can video call. We just won't meet in person. It's for the future, so we have to bear with it." Juniper said nonchalantly, but she missed him too.
However, she was more rational than most girls and thought about the bigger picture, not just the immediate sweetness.
After a moment of silence, Anthony said, "I'll try. But if I really miss you, I'll come find you."
"Okay."
Even though they couldn't see each other, their hearts were full of sweetness and hope for the future.
All the effort and patience now were for a better future!
