Chapter 249 Investigating the Meaningless Past

She was absolutely furious because she thought he had...

He sneered.

In her eyes, he was not only trash but also a beast.

Caleb found it ridiculous.

"Stop pretending. I got tired of you a long time ago."

His contemptuous gaze hurt Susan. She was so angry that her teeth were trembling. "Shameless, disgusting."

"I may be shameless and disgusting, but you shouldn't drink a bottle of alcohol in front of a shameless and disgusting man." Caleb's words became even harsher.

"If you hadn't forced me, I wouldn't have drunk it."

"I thought since you socialized very often, your tolerance to alcohol shouldn't be so bad." Caleb narrowed his eyes. "For a woman who is surrounded by many men, a bottle of alcohol is nothing."

It was a bottle of whiskey! And she had finished it in such a short amount of time, the consequences were almost like suicide.

He was a cold-blooded monster.

"Caleb, get out!" Susan pointed at the door angrily.

"I booked this hotel."

"How much money do I need to give you?"

"Forty thousand dollars per night."

Hearing this number, Susan was somewhat surprised.

The presidential suite of the highest-rated H Hotel in the city was very expensive.

He could afford to stay here. But that money was several months' salary plus commission for her.

Caleb could see her dilemma and deliberately provoked her. "Cash or check?"

Susan clenched the bedsheet. Her face turned dark, she gritted her teeth. "I didn't ask you to bring me here. You're just satisfying your own desires."

He sneered.

Caleb's eyebrows lifted slightly and his gaze became even colder. "You're pretending to be strong when you don't have money, it's truly laughable."

"Do you think money makes you impressive?"

"And yet you're after my money, aren't you?"

Susan gritted her teeth, unable to say anything. She struggled to hold back the urge to slap him across the face. He now seemed like a condescending demon, shamelessly trampling on her dignity and making her feel embarrassed.

"When you said last night that the one who betrayed first was me, what did you mean?" Caleb had been waiting for her to wake up and clarify this matter. He had just been too caught up in the argument to remember.

Did she say it?

Susan felt nervous.

But in her blurry memory, she didn't recall saying much else.

"I said it? I forgot. I didn’t mean it." Susan tried hard to hide her nervousness and acted as if she didn't care. "When people get drunk, they don't know what they're saying."

"Don't pretend to be clueless!"

"I don't know what you're talking about. The past is in the past, and I don't want to bring it up again."

But Caleb took a step forward, his tall figure looming over her. He exuded a domineering aura. "If you don't explain clearly, you can't expect to walk out that door today."

"I said I forgot. I said so many things last night, I can't possibly remember them all."

"You may not remember, but I remember everything clearly. You called me a jerk. Were you not happy?"

"You deserved it."

"How dare you? Explain yourself. I don’t want to repeat myself for the third time."

His tone left no room for negotiation.

Susan had no choice but to say, "Rich men like you are always surrounded by women. While you were with me, you must have been dating many other women."

Caleb trembled with anger at her words. "When I was with you, I loved you wholeheartedly and didn't date other women. Susan, are you just indifferent or foolish?"

Caleb fell silent.

He hadn't dated anyone else, but he had a fiancée.

He claimed that she didn't care, but in reality, the one who didn't care about their relationship was him!

"Just because you cheated, you think I'm the same? I never did anything to hurt you when we were together." Caleb swore.

It was the first time in his life that he realized how devoted he was. He loved a woman with all his heart, yet in her eyes, he was just a scumbag.

It was absurd.

Why would there be a fiancée if he hadn't done anything to hurt her? He had betrayed her from the beginning.

But Susan didn't say these words in the end.

Back then, she had wanted to retaliate against him, but now she didn't want to continue getting involved with him. Saying these things would be meaningless and only lead to more complex situations.

She didn't want that.

She sighed deeply in her heart. "Those things don't matter anymore; they're all in the past."

She realized that no matter how deeply she was hurt by the past betrayals, right and wrong, and grievances, she would eventually have to let go.

She was tired. All she desired now was a peaceful life.

"Mr. Eilish, cherishing the present is the most important thing, pursuing the past has no meaning. Both you and I already have partners and children, shouldn't we cherish them?" Her voice was low, and gentle, revealing extreme weariness and her compromise with reality. She had been hurt too many times by life, and no longer had the energy to entangle in emotions.

The word ‘children’ disappointed Caleb. He couldn't let his daughter down. Moreover, getting involved with this woman would only repeat a tragedy and get him stuck again. He couldn't fall into the abyss because of her once more. For him, his daughter was the most important thing.

The excitement in Caleb's pupils gradually faded away. His gaze became deep and calm and his tone was cold, "Your worries are unnecessary, I don't intend to have any relationship with you." His tone also carried a hint of contempt for her arrogance.

Even so, seeing her haggard face, Caleb was still moved. "Get up and have breakfast."

"It's late, I want to go back to the company." Susan didn't want to have anything to do with him, naturally, she didn't want to eat his breakfast either.

Getting up, she realized her clothes were gone. "Where are my clothes?"

"I threw them away."

Seeing her frowning as if she were going to get angry, Caleb coldly said, "You vomited all over yourself, your clothes were dirty and stinky."

"Then find me a set of clothes."

"Are you ordering me?"

"You threw away my clothes, compensating me with a new set is normal, right?" Susan replied. After all, he could afford it.

"Aren't you wearing something?"

Susan glanced at the bathrobe. There was nothing inside. She couldn't help but feel even more embarrassed. Her pale face regained some color, her ears turning red. "This is the hotel's bathrobe. You surely can't expect me to go out wearing this, right?"

"It's not my concern."

She fell silent.

He was really ruthless.

She didn't ask for his help.

Susan took out her phone to call her assistant, but Caleb saw through her intentions at a glance.

"Are you planning to let the whole company know that Susan and the Vice President of the Eilish Group spent a night in a hotel?"

"My assistant won't say anything."

"It concerns my reputation, I can't take that risk," Caleb said, taking the phone from her hand and hanging up the call.

"Give it back to me."

He was tall, and with a slight raise of his hand, Susan couldn't reach the phone. She became annoyed, "Mr. Eilish, is using force your only way of dealing with a disobedient woman?"

"This method is most appropriate for dealing with an immature woman."

Susan was so angry that she couldn't say a word.

"Don't be so angry, eat breakfast obediently, and I'll naturally let you go," Caleb said, throwing the phone onto the bed. "Come here!"

In her heart, Susan swore that one day she would completely get rid of this devil!
