Chapter 260 My Son Is Missing

Alice was surprised. "You want to resign? Layla..."

But then she thought, ‘Layla's current mental state is not suitable for work. Perhaps Mr. Holland has other arrangements?’

Alice was about to pull her aside to ask about the situation when Susan walked over and glanced at Layla's haggard face. "Come to my office."

Layla walked into the office soullessly, and then sat down.

Susan placed a cup of hot coffee in front of Layla. Her face was frozen purple, her ears red, and her lips were as white as if there was no trace of blood. Susan didn't know what she had been through, but she looked lifeless, which worried Susan.

"You said earlier that you want to resign?"

"Yes."

"But you need money."

"I will apply to other companies," Layla replied. She couldn't continue to stay at the Holland Group.

“But you have a three-month probation period at other companies, and the salary will be very low... as the project lead designer at the Eilish Group, you will definitely receive a large commission in the future. Have you thought it through? Are you really going to give up now? Once you resign, it will be almost impossible to come back."

Susan never liked getting involved in other people's affairs, unless it was Layla. If it were someone else, she would have signed the resignation letter immediately without saying a word. After all, she had too many things to take care of, and she didn't have the energy to interfere with an employee's resignation.

"I have thought it through." Layla's voice was not loud, but very firm.

"In that case, I respect your decision." Susan handed her a business card. "Go find this person and say that I introduced you. He has a great relationship with me, and he will help you."

"Thank you, Mrs. Susan." Layla sincerely appreciated all the help Susan had given her.

Susan sighed. "There is not much I can do. You will mainly have to rely on yourself, and I believe in your abilities. After quitting this job, you may face more financial pressure in your daily life. If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask."

Similar experiences involuntarily made Susan want to help her. Despite facing many difficulties herself, she still wanted to do her best to help Layla, because she felt sorry for this girl who was a few years younger than her.

In the morning, Susan was busy with the handover work with Layla. With one lead designer gone, the burden fell mainly on her shoulders, and she needed to quickly choose another designer at the same level from the Holland Group.

In the blink of an eye, it was already noon. In the afternoon, Susan took time off to meet with Victoria at a nearby mall.

Victoria was worried, holding the cute Oliver with a reluctant expression. "How about I don't go to my relative's house?"

"You've already made plans with them, so go ahead. I can manage on my own. The next two days are the weekend, I have free time." Susan hadn't taken a complete weekend off in years, and it just so happened that Victoria needed to visit relatives.

"Then I'll be back on Sunday night." Victoria kissed Oliver and walked away with her bag, turning back as she walked.

"Mummy, I need to pee."

"I will go with you."

Oliver held her hand and shook his head. "I'm already a three-year-old boy. I can't go to the women's restroom, that's embarrassing."

"Can you go to the restroom by yourself then?"

"Of course!"

Susan half-squatted and patted her son's head. "Then, go quickly, come out as soon as you're done, don't follow anyone else."

"I know, Mommy."

The little guy happily bounced into the restroom.

Susan walked to the side and answered a work-related call.

"Okay, check with her as soon as possible. It would be best if she could start working next Monday." After a five-minute phone call, she waited another five minutes, but Oliver didn't come out.

She stopped a passerby who was about to enter the bathroom and asked, "Hello, my son is inside. His name is Oliver and he looks like this. Could you help me check on him?"

"Your son is very handsome," the passerby looked at the photo and said, "Sure, I'll go have a look."

"Thank you."

The passerby came out a while later, saying, "Your son is not inside."

Susan became anxious. "He's not inside? That's impossible, I saw him go in. Did you look carefully?"

"The place isn't that big, I searched every room and called his name, but nobody was there. Could he have gone with a stranger?"

"No, my son wouldn't just go with anyone."

Without hesitation, Susan rushed into the bathroom, startling the man inside who quickly put on his pants.

"What are you doing?! This is the men's restroom!"

"Oliver? Oliver?" Susan searched room by room, calling Oliver's name anxiously, but she couldn't find him.

Just as she was getting extremely worried, she turned her head and bumped into a solemn Caleb. He frowned in displeasure, saying, "Susan, have you gone crazy? This is the men's restroom."

Susan could only think about her missing son, hurriedly running out of the restroom. "Oliver? Oliver?"

She was searching frantically while also calling Victoria, "Oliver is missing. I-I don't know... he went to the bathroom alone, and I didn't follow him."

Susan was so distressed that she kept pulling her hair.

In the vast shopping mall, people were coming and going, but she didn't know where to find her son.

Just then, a hand pulled her from behind.

"What's going on?" Caleb saw her worried expression and couldn't help but follow her out.

"It's nothing." Susan was busy searching for her son, but Caleb kept questioning her.

"Tell me."

"Mind your own business. It has nothing to do with you," Susan said impatiently.

But her words only made Caleb more worried. Susan was usually calm, so if she looked so anxious now, something big must have happened.

"You should know that I'm the only one who can help you right now. Tell me."

"Oliver... My son is missing." Susan had to confess. "He went to the bathroom alone, and then he disappeared. He wouldn't just go with anyone. Could he have been kidnapped? What should I do? Oliver..." Susan was like a cat on a hot tin roof, frantically pacing.

As a father, Caleb understood her desperate situation at the moment. He calmly said, "Give me his photo, and I'll send someone to look for him."

"Okay."

After reporting to the police, Caleb sent out thousands of people to search everywhere, but Susan couldn't just wait. She tirelessly ran through the mall over and over again, holding a photo and constantly asking passersby.

"Oliver." Susan grabbed a little boy, who cried in fear.

"What's wrong with you?" the little boy's mother scolded.

"I'm sorry," Susan apologized. She had been searching all day and was already dizzy. Every time she saw a boy her son's age, she thought it was Oliver.

"Oliver...where are you?" Susan's eyes turned red, and she saw the mall start spinning crazily. As she was about to collapse, a pair of strong hands caught her from behind and helped her onto a nearby chair.

"I don't want to rest; I want to continue looking for Oliver..."

"You look like a ghost. You'll faint before finding your son," Caleb lectured. "Eat some bread first."

"I can't eat. I'm worried about Oliver..." Susan finally couldn't hold back her tears.
