Chapter 546: That Person Is...
Nighttime.
Some random restaurant.
Anna, May's bestie, puffed on her cigarette and groaned, "This place is dead. If we're gonna go out, let's hit up a real bar and have some fun. This is a total waste of time."
May, nursing her glass of red wine, shot back, "You know I can't stand those places."
"Girl, you live like a nun. Work all day, stay home all night, never go out and party. You're wasting your youth."
"Yeah, yeah, unlike you and your wild nightlife."
May always felt like she and Anna were on different planets. Anna ran a lifestyle shop, slept all day, checked in on her shop at night, then hit the bars, drank, and played around with guys—completely opposite of May's life. They couldn't really hang out together.
But somehow, May kept her close friendship with Anna and loved hearing her crazy stories about hot guys.
Maybe it was because she knew she couldn't do those things herself, so she lived vicariously through Anna's tales.
"So, you tying the knot with that bank manager soon?"
"Probably. Meeting his parents next week."
"Not bad. He's hot, loaded, and comes from a good family. You're really lucky. I'm so jealous."
"I'm jealous of you, being so free."
"Hahaha, are you jealous of my freedom or the guys I get? How about I set you up with one?" Anna wiggled her eyebrows and grinned.
"No, thanks."
"Don't be so boring. How will you know the difference between your future hubby and other hot guys if you don't try? Wait, haven't you even..."
May took another sip of wine and said, "Isn't that something for after marriage?"
"Oh my god, are you living in the Stone Age? These days, couples are getting it on after like three dates, some don't even need to be in a relationship. You're way too old-school. Wait, didn't you used to hook up all the time? Like, a new guy every week? Are you just playing the good girl for your banker fiancé? Haha, you're such a sneaky one," Anna teased, laughing.
May turned red, "What's wrong with that? His family is super traditional, and he's pretty old-fashioned. I gotta play it cool, or he won't respect me."
"Girl, don't put all your trust in your future hubby. He came back from abroad; he might be wilder than you think."
"No way. He's totally dedicated and conservative, not like what you're saying."
"Don't be so sure. Some guys are just really good at faking it. Don't be too trusting."
May frowned, feeling a bit uneasy. She wanted Anna to be jealous, not burst her bubble, "Do you think everyone is as casual as you? He's busting his butt at work, probably working overtime right now."
Anna smirked, "How do you know he's working overtime and not 'working' in someone else's bed?"
"You..."
"Alright, alright, just messing with you. I don't know him, so I can't really say. Bring him out next time, and we'll see."
"Tyler is amazing. I'm worried you'll fall for him when you meet him," May rolled her eyes.
"You've got a lot of faith in your future hubby," Anna grinned mischievously, "Looks like your wedding is coming up. Why not go a little wild before you tie the knot?"
"What do you mean?"
"I'll take you to a club and find you a 'service provider' to have some fun?"
May's face turned beet red. She knew Anna was a regular at those clubs and always tried to drag her along, but May just couldn't get past her own hang-ups. Sure, she'd been with guys before, but paying for it? No way.
"Forget it."
"Come on, don't be such a buzzkill. Pre-wedding bachelorette parties are all the rage now. Once you're hitched, it'll be too late."
"I don't want to. Save it for yourself."
"It's sweet that you're keeping yourself pure for your future hubby. He better appreciate it and not be out there meeting women under the guise of working overtime..."
"You're overthinking. He's super reliable, he wouldn't..." May's voice trailed off as she spotted a familiar figure leaving from another corner of the restaurant.
A guy had his arm around a woman's waist, laughing and chatting like they were super close.
That guy's back looked just like Tyler's!
May bolted after them, but they were already gone.
"What happened?" Anna followed her out, panting, "What are you looking for?"
"No, nothing." May rubbed her forehead. She must've been seeing things. Tyler was working overtime at the bank; no way he'd be here with another woman, right?
It had to be Anna's constant remarks making her paranoid.
May shot Anna a glare, "Stop saying my boyfriend is lying about working overtime and actually meeting other women."
"I was just joking. Do you have to get so mad?" Anna laughed.
"That joke isn't funny. I don't like it."
"Are you so mad because deep down you don't actually trust him and are worried it might be true? Otherwise, why such a big reaction? You used to be able to take a joke."
"Stop it, or I'll really get mad."
"Okay, my bad." Anna quickly apologized and tried to pull her back inside.
"I don't want to drink anymore. I'm heading home."
"It's only eleven. Way too early to call it a night."
"I'm not like you. I don't enjoy staying out late."
"Alright, but if you ever want to find a 'service provider' for one last wild night, hit me up." Anna grinned mischievously, making a phone gesture.
"You're nuts." May huffed and flagged down a cab.
As soon as she got in the car, May called Tyler, but he didn't pick up.
May frowned.
This was the first time Tyler hadn't answered her call. Even when he was swamped or in a meeting, he'd always find a way to pick up.
Could it really have been him just now?
May's suspicion grew.
She called two more times, but Tyler still didn't answer.
May got home, feeling troubled.
She had always been so sure about Tyler. He was always the one chasing her, and she would play hard to get. But now, it felt like the tables were turning.
She had already lost Caleb. If she lost Tyler too, what would she do?
The more she thought about it, the more she suspected that the guy she saw was Tyler.
It was hard to mistake him. The back was so tall, and his demeanor was just like Tyler's.
May felt like she was going crazy with her suspicions.
Back at the Wilson family mansion, May couldn't help but glance at Susan's room as she went upstairs to rest. Thinking about Susan being pregnant with Caleb's child made May even more uncomfortable.
She forced herself to take a shower and sober up.
Just after finishing and drying her hair, her phone rang. She immediately jumped onto the bed, "Tyler."
