Chapter 777 Only You Can Save Me

"You courting death!" Douglas was about to slap her when the door suddenly opened and the lights came on.

"Stop!"

Juniper, with tears in her eyes, looked at Anthony who suddenly rushed in like a god descending from the heavens.

Douglas quickly let go of Juniper, shoved Anthony aside, and fled.

Anthony was about to chase after him when Juniper called out, "Don't chase him!"

"Are you okay?" Anthony hurried over to check on her.

"I'm fine. Luckily, you arrived in time; he didn't have a chance to do anything to me." Juniper shook her head.

She was still trembling, her heart filled with lingering fear.

She couldn't imagine what would have happened if he hadn't arrived in time...

She felt so disgusted that goosebumps covered her entire body.

It took a while for Juniper to calm down.

"Who was that guy just now?"

"I don't know, just some thug, I guess," Juniper replied, not wanting to drag him into her family affairs.

Anthony could tell she was hiding something. "If you need anything, just let me know."

"Thank you. How did you happen to be here..."

"I was passing by and heard some noise inside."

"Oh." He must have known she was inside, right? Had he been keeping an eye on her?

Some things couldn't be said out loud; neither of them exposed the truth.

"Are you here at the hospital for a check-up? Are you okay?"

"I've just been having frequent headaches lately, so I came to see a doctor I know."

"What did the doctor say?" Juniper asked, a bit worried.

"It's just regular neuralgia, nothing serious. Some medication will take care of it."

Neuralgia usually results from staying up late, stress, and poor mental condition. Was it because of the wedding? She hadn't realized it was such a burden for him.

But was it her place to be concerned about him?

"Are you hospitalized because..." Anthony asked.

"It's not me, it's a family member. I'm just here to keep them company. I must have fallen asleep from exhaustion."

"Okay."

Another moment of silence.

Juniper was the person Anthony most wanted to be close to, but now even saying a single word required careful consideration, creating an awkward atmosphere between them.

"What time is it now?" Juniper broke the silence.

"Seven-thirty. You haven't had dinner yet, right? Want to eat together?"

"I don't feel like moving."

"Then I'll go get something and bring it here."

"That's too much trouble for you."

"It's no trouble."

Maybe it was the sincerity in his eyes, or maybe the terrifying experience she had just gone through made Juniper not want to be alone. She inexplicably agreed, "Alright then."

Before long, Anthony returned with dinner.

"Hospital food is usually pretty bland," Juniper said, "and the taste is just so-so."

But for Anthony, this was the best meal he'd had in months.

Before, he had no appetite and eating was just a task to give him the energy to work.

Some things only have meaning when shared with someone else, and for him, that person was Juniper.

She was the color in his dark world. Unfortunately, he had lost her, and his world had turned black again.

"Eat more beef," Anthony said, placing some in her bowl.

"Thank you."

Unable to bear the silence, Juniper said, "How about we turn on the TV?"

"Okay."

It happened to be the news channel, and they were interviewing Hera outside the hotel where Anthony's wedding was to be held.

"Ms. Lawson, your grand wedding is just three days away. Are you nervous?"

"A little."

"You look a bit tired. What's going on?" the reporter asked.

"Maybe it's because I've been busy with wedding preparations. I'm a bit exhausted," Hera replied with a forced smile.

"Isn't Mr. Eilish helping you?"

"He is."

"But we've been here for a while and only saw you coming and going. Mr. Eilish hasn't shown up. It's said he didn't even take the wedding photos, and the wedding planners mentioned they haven't seen him."

Hera, looking annoyed, said, "He's just busy. I don't know where you get these rumors. They're false. He's been involved in the wedding planning, but we discuss things privately."

"Really? My sources seem pretty reliable. We've seen you looking unhappy several times. Is there trouble in paradise?"

The reporter continued, "Will there be any last-minute changes to the wedding?"

"Which media outlet are you from? I could sue you for slander," Hera said, suddenly agitated.

"Your reaction suggests we might be right."

"No bride wants to hear such things before her wedding," Hera said coldly. "Anthony and I are stable, and the wedding will go on as planned. There will be no changes. If I hear any more rumors, prepare to receive a lawyer's letter."

With that, Hera left the reporter in a huff.

Sometimes, the more you emphasize something, the more you fear it.

Hera kept stressing their relationship was stable, which probably meant she was anxious. Was she worried Anthony would call off the wedding?

Would he do that?

Juniper stole a glance at Anthony, unable to read his next move from his melancholic face. It wasn't her place to ask.

Anthony turned off the TV.

His phone immediately rang, and he hung up.

Juniper could guess who was calling.

It made her feel awkward too.

If Hera knew Anthony was with her now, she'd probably throw acid at her.

But she really hadn't done anything.

Anthony handed her more food.

"No, I can't eat that much."

"Eat more, you're too thin."

"You're the one who's lost weight." His face had become gaunt.

"A bit," Anthony replied softly.

Juniper took a few more bites, finding it unbearable to stay in the same room with him. She felt suffocated.

"You should go back. Ms. Lawson is probably looking for you."

"I don't want to see her," Anthony said calmly.

"But you're about to get married. She'll be your lifelong companion."

Anthony gave a bitter smile. "Then my life is completely doomed."

Juniper was stunned.

Was it that bad?

Impulsively, Juniper said, "I don't mean to interfere in your marriage, but as a friend, I hope you can be happy. Marriage is not a game; you should think carefully before making a decision."

Anthony's eyes lit up slightly, looking at her expectantly. "You don't want me to get married?"

Juniper quickly waved her hands. "That's not what I meant. I just think you should consider it carefully. The decision is yours. I'm just an observer, not advising you to do anything."

The light in Anthony's eyes dimmed again. "I wish you would advise me."

"Marriage is your business, Anthony. You're a mature person. Your decisions should be more rational and correct than mine."

"Rational? No, I'm a mess right now. I know it's a mistake, but I still insist on going through with it. I don't even know what I'm holding on to," Anthony said with a bitter smile.

He added, "I'm like a lion walking into a circus cage, watching my freedom slip away, knowing my life will be a tragedy, yet still walking in. There's no cure."

Inside, a voice was still struggling.

He grabbed Juniper's hand. "Only you can save me."
