Chapter 733 Reap What You Sow
Ronnie, of course, immediately refused, "She's not available. You can talk to me."
"I only want to speak to her."
"I just don't get it. If it's business, why can't you tell me? If it's personal, do you think I'm dead as her boyfriend?"
"Mr. Eilish, this isn't the first time you've tried to steal my girlfriend. You're getting more shameless. Do you really think I won't hit you?"
Ronnie clenched his fists, his face and eyes colder than before. It was a warning: if he didn't heed it, Ronnie would take action.
"Move aside!" Anthony said coldly.
"You want me, her boyfriend, to move aside?"
"I just want to talk to Juniper. I have something very important to say to her."
Anthony wanted to express his true feelings to her, to tell her he liked her, didn't want her to quit, and still wanted to keep her.
But Ronnie blocked the doorway.
Seeing that Ronnie wouldn't move, Anthony tried to force his way in.
"Shameless!" Ronnie grabbed Anthony by the collar. He was in a foul mood and itching for a fight. And Anthony was the person he most wanted to punch!
The two men shoved each other.
Ronnie lost his temper and swung a punch at Anthony's face.
"Stop!" Juniper shouted.
"Juniper—" Anthony's eyes lit up with excitement. "I have something to tell you."
"It's very important." He emphasized, "I've been wanting to tell you."
Juniper's expression was indifferent, her eyes showing no emotion. "Say what you want to say."
"I want to talk to you alone."
"Are you fucking kidding me?" Ronnie's temple throbbed as he prepared to teach Anthony a lesson.
"Don't hit him," Juniper intervened. "There's nothing you can't say in front of my boyfriend."
"Is he really your boyfriend?" Anthony couldn't believe it.
A thousand voices screamed in his head, 'She's lying to you, she's lying to you!'
Otherwise, he couldn't accept it.
"Of course he's my boyfriend. We've been dating for a while now. You know that, don't you?"
"Then tell me, if he's your boyfriend, why did you tell me you liked me in the bathroom that day?" Anthony cut to the chase.
Juniper's face turned pale.
Ronnie looked furious, as if he'd just discovered he'd been cheated on. "Why did you say that?"
Juniper forced herself to stay calm. "Mr. Eilish, I explained that very clearly that day. I was drunk. I didn't know what I was saying. How can you take drunken words seriously? Isn't that ridiculous? Maybe I mistook you for Ronnie. It's normal to not see clearly when you're drunk."
"You know, the most cowardly people are those who blame everything on alcohol, who don't dare to face their true feelings. You called my name, Anthony, not Ronnie."
He pressed her, wanting her to admit it, to face her true feelings.
"I was drunk."
"Drunken words are the most truthful!" Anthony said firmly.
"No, quite the opposite. I talk nonsense when I'm drunk. I used to go to bars with my friends, and I'd say all sorts of things when I was drunk."
"If you don't believe me, you can ask them. They all know that's how I am when I'm drunk. Every time I wake up the next day, my friends laugh at the nonsense I said the night before. If you took it seriously, it just means you don't know me at all."
"Yeah." Anthony laughed and shook his head. "I don't know you at all. I don't know which of your words are true and which are false."
"You keep me guessing. You make my emotions feel like a roller coaster, one moment at the top, the next in the depths. Juniper, are you playing with my feelings?"
Anthony felt that throughout this relationship, she had always been in control, always the one with the upper hand.
If this was a game, then she was the master of the game, and he was just a toy for her amusement.
"You're overthinking it. No one is playing with your feelings. I'm not that bored." Juniper's expression grew colder and more indifferent as she spoke.
"So you're saying you don't like me at all?"
"I used to, but not anymore," she said cruelly.
"I don't believe you."
Juniper was getting impatient. "Do I have to spell it out for you? Doesn't my resignation say enough?"
"Mr. Eilish, you came to my boyfriend to say all this to me. Are you trying to embarrass me? Have you considered my situation? You're affecting my relationship with my boyfriend."
"Your behavior really disgusts me." She turned her face away as she said this, unable to bear seeing him hurt, and lacking the courage to look him in the eye while telling this lie.
"You hate me, don't you?" Anthony's heart felt like it was being cut by a blade. "You hate me so much that you want to quit?"
No, quite the opposite. It was because she loved him that she had to quit.
Ronnie stood to the side, feeling utterly desolate.
In this relationship, he was just an outsider, a person with no presence, a tool being used.
They loved each other, and he was nothing.
For the first time, he felt like a complete and utter joke.
"If that's what you think, then so be it. I don't want to explain anything. Tomorrow is my last day at work. I'll finish the handover and leave. I don't think we'll have any more chances to meet after that. There's no need to make things end on a bad note, right?"
Every word she said was so heartless, leaving him no room for hope.
Anthony's heart felt cold, very cold.
He had come to her full of passion, wanting to tell her he liked her, really liked her.
He wanted to ask for her forgiveness for his past indecision and to be with her, moving towards marriage.
However...
What he got in return was a bucket of ice water, poured over him from head to toe, chilling him to the bone.
He clenched his fists, trying to control his trembling body. "Sorry for causing you trouble."
He couldn't bear to stay another second and turned to leave.
It wasn't until the elevator doors closed that Juniper finally relaxed, as if she had fought a battle and was utterly exhausted.
Her face was pale, her expression melancholic.
Ronnie suddenly started clapping. "Not bad, I got to watch a good show. Is this drama called 'Deep Love'? Not bad, not bad..."
"This soap opera is only halfway through. It won't be over in less than a hundred episodes. I'm really curious to see how it will play out. Do you think this is particularly interesting, particularly true love?"
"Sorry for using you," Juniper said.
"No problem. You two are the main characters, but you need supporting actors too."
"But Juniper, with your love for drama, you'll bring serious consequences upon yourself sooner or later."
Ronnie's pride had been deeply wounded just now. In his pain, he wanted to hurt her with harsh words, to make her feel the same pain.
"Good thing I gave up. Otherwise, liking someone like you would have shortened my life. It's endlessly exhausting. Isn't it annoying? Don't you think?"
"I hate fake women the most. Just looking at you disgusts me. Thinking about how I used to like you makes me want to puke!" He gave her a look of utter disgust and walked away.
Juniper smiled bitterly. 'Hate me, go ahead and hate me. This is who I am.'
She brought this upon herself. She doesn't deserve happiness and was destined to be lonely forever.
