Chapter 466 Custody Goes to You
Four years ago, he didn't give her the marriage she wanted; he deceived her instead.
He made her the subject of gossip, kicked her out while she was pregnant, and caused her immense suffering.
When she wanted love, he gave her pain. Now, he wanted to make it up to her with the marriage she once dreamed of. Was it too late?
Susan knew the answer: some things, once missed, can't be fixed.
There was no going back.
The marriage she once wanted, she no longer desired.
Now, Susan just wanted freedom and peace.
Time was never on their side; they always missed each other. Maybe it was a cruel joke from God.
A trace of bitterness rose in her heart.
But Susan told herself, "What's there to feel bad about?"
Even though he messed with her heart and mind many times, she always knew one thing: she would never start over with Caleb.
Aidan was so furious his eyes went white with rage. He shouted, "I'm going to kill you," and reached for a chair to smash over Caleb.
"Aidan..."
"Mr. Aidan Eilish, please don't."
"Mr. Aidan Eilish, calm down," the servants hurried to stop him.
"Why are you holding me back? If I don't beat him to death today, I'll be angered to death by him sooner or later."
"Nobody stops me!" Aidan roared.
Caleb said calmly, "You've already spent some time with Oliver. Now, I'm taking them home."
"You get out yourself, but don't think about taking my grandson..."
"Stop him!"
The servants didn't dare move.
"You ungrateful people, who do you listen to?"
"Bastard!"
"Oliver!"
Aidan was so angry he had a heart spasm and pushed hard. "Get out, all of you."
"Aidan, take your medicine," Mia hurriedly fed him the pills.
Aidan, gasping for breath, swallowed the medicine with warm water but still shouted, "If you're all going to help him anger me to death, why should I take any medicine?"
"Calm down," Mia soothed his chest.
After a while, Aidan finally caught his breath. His face, red with anger, was now pale.
"Aidan, have another sip of water."
"No!" Aidan pushed it aside.
"Aidan, you know your health. Why are you fighting with your son?"
"I'm in great health!" Aidan stubbornly said, coughing a few times.
"Maybe we should do as our son says and let him marry Susan."
Aidan almost raised his hand to slap her. "You're helping him too."
"I have no other choice, do I? I also want both kids to stay with Grace so that our Eilish family doesn't lose face, but our son is grown. Caleb is so stubborn; how could he listen to us? Now the Eilish Group is in Anthony's control; you have to accept this fact."
"No matter what, I'm still his father. If it weren't for me, could he have become vice president?"
"Yes, but we're getting old and can't handle the stress. Don't we just want a house full of grandchildren and to enjoy our old age? I see Caleb is sincere about Susan; she might give us more grandchildren in the future."
"If that woman gives birth, we don't want them."
"Don't you love Oliver?"
"I..."
"Since we can't change it, let's go with the flow. Maybe this is God's plan."
"I don't want to hear about God's plan! That woman can come in only over my dead body."
Mia knew persuading him would take time; pushing it would only make him more rebellious. So she quickly agreed, "Alright, alright, let's not talk about them. Calm down."
But Aidan couldn't calm down after his adorable grandson was taken away.
They hadn't been back to the apartment in a long time.
Out of the elevator, Caleb hesitated; she probably wouldn't welcome him inside.
As Susan took out her keys, she said softly, "Wait here for a moment."
Oliver, in her arms, waved at Caleb, whispering, "Bye, Uncle Caleb."
Caleb smiled, the coldness in his heart slightly dispelled.
After a while, Susan came out alone. She looked up at Caleb, her eyes calm. "Can you stop bothering us?"
Caleb was silent.
"I want to take Oliver back to Novaria."
"I'll go with you."
"We're going to Novaria to avoid you. If you come with us, what's the point?"
"I know my parents went too far..."
Susan shook her head, interrupting, "It's not your parents; it's mainly you. Caleb, the person I most want to get rid of is you!"
Her tone wasn't as cold or sharp as before. Instead, she seemed very tired. "Caleb, it's been four years, a whole four years. Can we let each other go? Hmm?"
Caleb smiled bitterly. "If I could let go, we wouldn't be in this situation now. Susan, I love you so much that I find it unbelievable that I think I'm crazy."
"You want me to give you up, but our hearts have grown inseparably together. Do you want me to dig out my own heart? How else can I remove you?"
Susan was afraid to hear such questions because feelings were mutual; she was enduring the same torment as him.
Feelings are inherently a dead end, an unsolvable dead end.
They were both trapped. Neither could persuade the other.
"I don't want to talk anymore; your wife and daughter are waiting for you. Go back." Susan was really tired and most afraid of being emotionally exhausted.
She closed the door in Caleb's face.
Caleb didn't have much time and had to go home first.
Just as he stepped into the house, he heard Candy crying, and the servants were frantically bringing medicine. "Mr. Eilish, Miss Eilish, she..."
Caleb rushed to the third floor.
Candy had a cut on her forehead and was crying loudly, with Grace anxiously comforting her.
"What happened?" Caleb hurriedly took Candy into his arms.
Candy clung to his neck, crying even harder.
"Isn't it because of you? She was crying for you and hit her head."
Caleb frowned. "Let me see."
Candy, with tears in her eyes, couldn't stop crying when Caleb asked how she got hurt.
"Still asking? Didn't I say it was because of you?" Grace blamed him.
After applying the medicine, Candy cried herself to sleep.
Caleb's guilt was indescribable. He felt particularly awful. He stood alone on the balcony, frowning at the outside.
"I told you at the hospital last time if you continue to see that mistress, Candy will get hurt again. Wasn't I right? She just got out of the hospital, and now she's bleeding again. Caleb, can't you see this is retribution, retribution on your daughter? If you keep being stubborn, do you want to kill your daughter? How do you still have the right to ask for custody?"
Caleb said nothing.
After a long time and a fierce struggle, Caleb made a difficult decision: "If you agree to divorce, Candy's custody goes to you."
