Juniper wasn't some ice queen. When faced with such a heartfelt confession, she couldn't just brush it off.
She always thought Ronnie's interest was just a fling, or to be blunt, he just wanted to get her into bed. But now, she was starting to doubt that. She couldn't call it love, but Ronnie genuinely liked her and treated her well. Otherwise, why would a rich guy like him keep trying to make her happy?
But she still had feelings for Anthony.
When one had to remind herself not to like someone, it meant she actually do like him, and quite a lot.
Her heart wasn't big enough for two people.
She didn't want to let Ronnie down.
Sometimes, she'd think about what Ronnie said, to just go with the flow and love without worrying about the future. She was still young and could afford to take risks. Not every relationship ends in a fairytale. If she was scared of everything, she'd never be able to love anyone.
Seeing her lower her head and furrow her brows, Ronnie didn't want to push her. "Alright, go home and take a hot bath. If you catch a cold, I'll be heartbroken."
After dropping Juniper off, Ronnie planned to head back home. On the way, he got a call from some friends, inviting him to a bar.
Seeing it was only a little past ten, he turned around and headed to the bar.
Lately, all his energy had been focused on Juniper, and it had been a while since he hung out with his friends. Though they were a rowdy bunch, they were also childhood buddies, and he couldn't just cut them off.
At the bar.
"Look who it is! Long time no see."
"Mr. Woods, what brings you here tonight?"
"Where have you been making money? Take us with you."
As soon as Ronnie walked into the private room, they started teasing him.
"Mr. Woods." A seductive woman in a red dress clung to him, her perfume strong.
Ronnie used to be into that, but now it just made him want to sneeze.
He thought Juniper's light fragrance was way better.
He had just walked in and was already thinking about her.
Not just now; he had been thinking about her the whole way here.
"Mr. Woods, my name is Cassia." The beauty leaned in for a kiss, but Ronnie dodged it. He didn't push her away, but he didn't touch her either, just took the drink from her hand.
"Ronnie, Cassia is the hottest girl here. We got her just for you. Don't be shy."
"Yeah, we've already paid for it. Consider it a gift from us and enjoy."
Ronnie smiled but didn't say anything.
"Where have you been lately? Haven't seen you around. Are you in love?"
"No," Ronnie denied.
"What nonsense. Falling in love is for kids. Our Ronnie is..."
"Still in the pursuit phase," Ronnie said, taking a sip of his drink.
"What?"
This statement shocked everyone, and they all looked surprised.
"Who are you pursuing?"
"Are you joking?"
"Which beauty?"
"Even you can't win her over?"
"This isn't fake alcohol, is it?"
"There's actually a woman you need to pursue?"
Seeing him stay quiet and looking all serious, they pressed on, "When are you gonna bring her out for us to meet? I'm dying to see who she is."
"Why not call her out now? I'm super curious."
"Yeah, me too."
"Next time, after I've won her over," Ronnie replied.
"There's no woman you can't win over, right? Are you scared?"
"Scared? Me? Nah, it's just a matter of time," Ronnie said with a playful grin.
"Which girl is so clueless, daring not to agree to you? Doesn't she need a lesson?"
"You can't spoil women. Just get her into bed, and she'll be yours."
"Yeah, it's disrespectful to you. We're all indignant on your behalf."
But Ronnie looked rather pleased. "You guys don't get it. I'm enjoying this."
"Oh my God!"
"Is this really you?"
"You're such a masochist. I didn't know you had it in you."
"It must be true love. I'm jealous." Men can be like kids sometimes, teasing non-stop.
"But you're just in it for the novelty, right? Women are all the same after you sleep with them. I wonder how long your interest will last this time."
Ronnie raised an eyebrow. "My future wife, how long do you think it'll last?"
The other guy spat out his beer.
"Fuck!"
"Marriage! Are you serious?"
They were all shocked.
Ronnie asked, "What? Is my marriage that scary?"
"Of course, it's like telling an impotent man to get married."
"You're asking for it!" Ronnie kicked him.
"I mean, we never thought you'd get married. In our circle, isn't there a consensus that women are for fun, but marriage is arranged by the family? Don't give me that Cinderella true love crap. Going against your family won't end well. It'll ruin you."
"Alright, let's not worry so much. You know this guy, right? He's a wolf, tougher and clearer-headed than any of us. He'd never give up the Woods family for a woman."
"That's true."
"Got a photo? I want to see how beautiful she is."
Ronnie teased, "What's the rush? Once I've won her over, I'll formally introduce her to you."
"You're impressive, first time introducing a girlfriend. I'm looking forward to it."
Cassia, on the side, was already insanely jealous.
Even though this was a nightclub and Ronnie was her client, she had fallen for him at first sight. Even if she couldn't win his heart, she wanted to sleep with him. Even if it was for free, no, even if she had to pay, she wanted to taste Ronnie.
But Ronnie didn't even look at her, nor did he touch her. No matter what she tried, he remained unmoved.
When she reached for his leg, he even moved her hand away.

After midnight, the group left the bar, slightly tipsy, with women on their arms.
Cassia clung to Ronnie, unwilling to give up this last chance. She held his arm tightly and said ingratiatingly, "Mr. Woods, let me accompany you to the hotel next door."
