Chapter 41 What did I say about Chasing Her?
Just as Mr. Morris was about to close the door, he couldn't help but say, "Miss Adkins, one's character can be influenced by their upbringing, so his personality can sometimes be a bit off. Please understand."
"Exactly. He is not just difficult, he's a tyrant. He fired my friend today." Layla vented about the situation to Mr. Morris.
After listening, Mr. Morris smiled and said, "So, Sir fired him because he was close to you? Didn't you think about the reasons behind it?"
Layla rolled her eyes and replied, "What other reasons could there be? He is just stubborn, unreasonable, and domineering."
Mr. Morris shook his head. "I have known Sir for many years, and he is definitely not someone who acts on a whim. There is always a reason behind everything he does, and he wouldn't waste his time and energy on someone he doesn't care about."
Layla was stunned for a moment and asked, "Then why would he have done it?"
"Have you had previous romantic experiences with him?"
"What does that have to do with whether I have had romantic experiences with him or not?" Layla suddenly paused, her eyes widening in surprise. "You're not saying that, he... he was jealous?"
"You can figure that out for yourself. Goodnight." Mr. Morris said with a smile. With that, Mr. Morris closed the door and left her alone in the room.
Jealous of her? Impossible.
It was so ridiculous!
He was just a heartless creature without any friends. How could he possibly like her? At most, it was just a desire, nothing more.
Layla was convinced of this, but her mood was disrupted by that sentence.
In the midst of her confusion, her phone rang. It was a call from Louis.
Sitting up to answer the call, Layla said, "Louis?"
She had been planning to wait a while before calling him so she could calm down her emotions.
"Layla, are you with Mr. Holland?" Louis' weak voice came through.
"Yes, we just had a fight."
"You're so brave. Don't argue with Mr. Holland, in case he gets angry."
"He wouldn't dare do anything to me." Layla paused after saying that. She actually had such confidence in her words. Could it be that subconsciously, she thought that that man wasn't so bad to her?
Shaking her head, she thought, "What's not bad about him?" He's clearly treated her poorly, often kissing her.
"Layla, I think Mr. Holland likes you. Can you help me and ask him to let me come back to work?" Louis's voice sounded tearful. "My mom is in the hospital, and I have to pay her medical bills every week. If I lose this job, I won't be able to afford it. Layla, please..."
Louis was a strong young man, so it must have been desperate circumstances for him to cry and plead with her.
Layla understood the bitter pain of the poor. Her nose also tingled with sadness, so she hurriedly said, "Don't cry. I... I'll try."
"Thank you, Layla. As long as you speak up, Mr. Holland will definitely agree."
"I can't guarantee that." Layla hesitated and said, "He's a very stubborn person, and once he makes a decision, it's hard to change his mind."
"It's easy for you to change his mind. You can try to please him."
"Pleasing him?" Layla frowned, instinctively resistant.
"Yes, like being cute and all that stuff, it's simple. You're so adorable, Mr. Holland will definitely soften."
Her, acting cute towards that jerk? Just the thought of it gave Layla goosebumps. No way!
"But I..."
"Layla, this is a small matter for you, but it affects my mother's life. Please, I'm begging you..."
Layla reluctantly agreed. "Okay, I'll give it a try."
"Thank you, I'll wait for good news."
After hanging up the phone, Layla felt troubled for a while and opened a post on a forum, How to please a man?
In less than two minutes, she received replies.
"Cook him a delicious meal."
"Spoil him, give kisses and hugs."
Layla asked, "Any simpler ideas?"
"Just pounce on him! There's nothing that can't be solved by pouncing. If it doesn't work, try pouncing twice."
"Agreed!"
"Go for a live stream."
Ha! The female netizens nowadays are so open-minded and forward. Layla was glad she wasn't drinking water, or it would have surely sprayed out all over her phone.
Pounce on him? How is that possible? She already regretted that night, and it would never happen again.
As for cooking a meal, she could consider it. After all, she was good at cooking, and he did enjoy her food, although he teasingly said it was just average.
Layla put her phone aside and started writing her report seriously.
In the next room.
"Sir, I've given the computer and first-aid kit to Miss Adkins. She said she would take care of her wounds herself."
Samuel loosened his tie and casually draped it over the back of the chair. He murmured, "Mmh." as expected.
It wasn't unexpected, that girl was stubborn.
"Sir, forgive me for speaking out of turn, although nowadays girls claim to like domineering men, it shouldn't be all about being domineering. It takes a combination of dominance and doting to win over the girl you like."
Samuel undid his cufflinks with an air of indifference. Glancing at Mr. Morris, he said in a magnetic voice, "You make a valid point. But did I say I wanted to pursue Layla?"
It was so easy for him to get a woman, he didn't need to spend time pursuing anyone.
He admitted that he had some interest in Layla, both physically and mentally, and he had allowed her to potentially have his child. But it didn't mean he liked her.
He was a heartless person, so he wouldn't develop feelings for any woman. Love was even more impossible for him to consider.
"Alright, Sir, whatever you say." Mr. Morris thought inwardly, "I don't believe it anyway."
Samuel worked until 2 a.m.. Yet he woke up the next day feeling refreshed. Working long hours had become his regular routine. The work itself wasn't tiring, but someone occasionally made him emotionally exhausted, plus a bit melancholic.
He wondered how that girl would cause trouble for him again, but when he went downstairs he was shocked...
"Miss Adkins, when Sir sees the sumptuous breakfast you prepared, he'll be very happy." Mr. Morris said with a smile.
Layla was busy setting the table, moving the golden fried eggs to the center and pouting slightly, "Who said I prepared it for him? Can't I make it for myself?"
"You can eat so much by yourself?"
"Yes."
"Good morning, Sir." Mr. Morris bowed respectfully.
Samuel walked out without looking.
Layla quickly called after him. "I made breakfast."
"It's not made for me." Samuel continued walking.
Damn, he heard that. Layla grumbled awkwardly, "I accidentally made too much. It's a waste not to eat it."
"I'm not a trash can."
"Alright, alright, it was made for you, okay?" Seeing him with one foot already out of the dining room, Layla could only reluctantly admit it.
This man is too proud and particularly petty. With this temper and mentality, how did he become a senior executive?
Only then did Samuel turn back and sit down, though his expression remained cold.
Looking at the table full of a rich breakfast, Samuel couldn't help but wonder, what time did she wake up?
"Sir, Miss Adkins woke up at around five o'clock to prepare breakfast." Mr. Morris said.
"No joke. I was up until one o'clock last night working on the report and only got four hours of sleep. My head is spinning now, so you better finish it all." Layla said.
"Do you eat fried eggs? If you don't like oily food, there's also oatmeal soaked in milk and tomato soup. We also have coffee and sandwiches." Layla enthusiastically recommended, but Samuel remained unmoved.
"Why are you staring at me like that? Worried that I poisoned it? How dumb would I be to poison your meal on your territory?"
"Your intelligence is not very high to begin with." Samuel said coldly. If her intelligence was a bit higher, she wouldn't be so ignorant and angry at him.
"You..." Forget it, Louis' work is more important. Layla suppressed her anger, took the coffee with both hands, and forced a pleasing smile. "How about trying my hand-brewed coffee then? It tastes great."
Seeing his lack of interest, Layla picked up the juice again. "Perhaps start with some juice? We have orange and watermelon."
"Or perhaps you prefer fried chicken?"
No matter what she said, Samuel remained indifferent. "What are you doing?"
