Chapter 562: Expelled from the Country
"May, cut it out!" Susan lunged to grab her, but May spun around and slammed Susan against the balcony edge, her grip like a vice.
May's eyes were wild, bloodshot, and she sneered, "Gotcha, Susan. I never wanted to die; I wanted you gone!"
"I hate your guts. If I'm going down, I'm taking you with me."
"Don't blame me. You wanted to play the hero; now deal with your karma."
May's hands tightened around Susan's neck, choking her, making her eyes roll back.
Susan clawed at May's hands, but they were like iron, squeezing tighter. She couldn't fight back.
The world spun around Susan. She was suffocating.
She was gonna die.
Tears streamed down her face.
Baby, Mommy's sorry.
"Susan, Susan?"
"Susan, wake up."
Susan jolted awake to Caleb's worried face.
"Caleb? Am I dead?" she asked, panicked.
"No, you're still here."
"But May was choking me. My throat still hurts." The suffocation felt so real, Susan thought she was a goner.
"Luckily, I got there in time. Otherwise, who knows what would've happened."
Fear still lingered in Caleb. When he rushed to the rooftop, Susan was already out cold, just a step away from being pushed off.
"I didn't think May had it in her."
"Yeah, I thought it was just sibling drama. Didn't know she hated me that much. The car accident was on purpose. She'd rather die with me than let me live."
What kind of deep-seated hatred is this?
Caleb's eyes hardened. "What do you wanna do about her?"
"Do about her?"
"Yeah. She's tried to kill you multiple times. You think I'm just gonna let that slide?"
"But she's my sister."
"If she wasn't, she'd be shark bait by now," Caleb said, dead serious.
"If she stays around, she'll just find more ways to hurt you. She can't stay."
Susan thought for a moment. "I don't want her in jail. She's already crippled; that's punishment enough. Send her abroad."
"That's it?"
"She's my sister. No matter how much she hates me, she's still family, and I gotta think about my parents. But you're right; she can't stay here. Sending her abroad is the best option. She can never come back."
"Okay."
But Caleb had other plans. He was gonna send her to one of the coldest, most desolate places on Earth. May would live out her days in loneliness, a fate worse than death—a living prison. This was the punishment she deserved.
Susan didn't know Caleb's plan. She was still sad about May's hatred.
But that sadness was only because May was family. After all, May had done wrong, and wrongs must be punished.
She could mourn losing her sister, but she wasn't gonna punish herself for May's screw-ups. She and the Wilsons had done nothing wrong. They had a clear conscience.
Caleb cupped her face, looking deep into her eyes. "Alright, leave this to me. Don't stress about it. Forget the bad stuff and look ahead."
Susan smiled. "Okay."
It was tough, but she had to do it. If she was sad, her parents would be even more heartbroken. They only had her now.
And she was pregnant; she had to think about the baby too.
She placed her hand on her belly. "Thank God you got there in time; otherwise, it would've been a double tragedy. First a car accident, then a fall. Our baby’s been through a lot."
"They say after tough times, good luck follows. So our baby’s blessed."
Susan chuckled, "You always find a way to see the bright side."
"I'm serious. Susan, the hard times are over. I’ll protect you and make you happy," Caleb promised.
"Yeah, I believe you." Susan held his hand. She told herself to think of happy things to chase away the gloom. "From now on, we’ll be a family of five."
"Yep." Caleb smiled.
"I used to think two kids was a lot. Now, three feels kinda overwhelming," Susan stuck out her tongue.
"I'm loaded; what’s the pressure?" Caleb laughed, touching her face. "Worst case, we hire three nannies."
"Yes, Mr. Eilish is very wealthy."
Their hands clasped tightly together.
At the Wilson mansion.
Carol sat in May's room, silently crying.
"Mom." Hearing Susan's voice, Carol quickly wiped her eyes.
"Has May gone abroad?"
"Yeah, Caleb said he sent her to Arctonia. We might not be able to contact her anymore."
"How did it come to this, how..." Carol started crying again. "She's my daughter too..."
"Even though she didn’t get it, I always treated her like my own. This happening is like a knife to my heart." Carol cried so hard it hurt to breathe.
"I get it. My heart hurts too," Susan lowered her eyes. "But life goes on. We can only look forward and live well."
"Yeah... being sad is useless." Carol choked up. "Susan, I’m sorry for all the crap you went through. I didn’t do my job as a mom. Every time I think of you alone with Oliver, suffering, I feel awful. I regret not standing up to your dad and stopping him from kicking you out."
"Mom, it’s okay, don’t think about it anymore." Susan quickly held Carol’s hand and comforted her. "It’s all in the past. No need to feel guilty. Besides, I’m doing well now, aren’t I?"
"Even the closest families have conflicts, but family ties can’t be broken. I know during these four years apart, you always thought of me, and I never believed we’d truly sever ties and never see each other again. Family bonds only grow deeper and stronger through these ordeals."
"And now the dawn has arrived. Caleb and I, along with our kids, will take good care of you and Dad. Our family will be happy and safe, with no more troubles."
"Yeah, having you all is enough for me."
