Chapter 298 I Still Love You
The three of them were having a great time, but in the distance, Grace's eyes were filled with anger.
She knew Caleb must be meeting that woman since he was willing to abandon his daughter and go out on Christmas Eve. He had hidden his whereabouts, and she had to hire the best private detective to find him, but what she didn't expect was that they had a child together. No wonder that woman, Susan, left four years ago. It turned out she had planned to come back with the child after three years.
Grace stared at Oliver, who was playing and sweating. He resembled Susan, and that made Grace hate Oliver, too.
Compared to Susan, Oliver was a bigger threat because he was a boy. The Eilish family had always favored boys, and her Parent-in-laws had been pressuring her to have a son. She wanted to have a son too, but Caleb wouldn't touch her, so how could she have one? Mrs. Eilish saw that Grace had not been pregnant and even suggested to Caleb that he should find another woman outside to give birth to a son for him. Once they found out that Caleb had such an illegitimate son, they would definitely bring the child home. What would she and Candy do then?
Grace clenched the car seat angrily. ‘Susan, I won't let you succeed in your scheme!’
"Haha. Uncle, we just fought one against three and sent them running with their tails between their legs. We're awesome.”
"I want to play again tomorrow." Oliver was excited and out of breath. His rosy cheeks and bright eyes were astonishing.
"Okay." Caleb bent down, and Oliver jumped up to high-five him.
"Yeah, high-five!"
"You go take a shower first."
Susan took Oliver's down jacket off and shook off the snow.
"Hurry up, or you'll catch a cold."
"Yes, Mommy." Oliver saluted properly, which made Susan chuckle. The little one rushed into the bathroom. Susan was taking off her coat, and Caleb gently grabbed both of her sleeves from behind. Susan pulled her hand out and turned around to thank him in a low voice.
"Your hands are frozen." Caleb took her frozen hand and rubbed it. "Caleb." Susan was startled and tried to pull her hand back, but he held it even tighter.
"We can't do this." Susan was in a panic. "You, you make me feel guilty," Susan said anxiously, "I asked you to stay and take care of Oliver, just to make sure his surgery goes smoothly, not because I want to be with you..."
"I understand," Caleb hurriedly said, "I just want to keep you warm.”
"Susan, I'm sorry. I can't help myself."
"Don't say that. You're already married, and I don't want to be the third party."
"You've never been the third party. You're the only woman I've ever loved in my whole life. I've hated you and loved you at the same time over the past four years."
"Don't say that..." she shook her head, resisting.
"But I want you to know." Caleb had been restraining himself from saying these words, but he couldn't bear it anymore. "When I realized I was in love with you, I immediately proposed to Grace to break up, but she unilaterally refused. I didn't get back together with her even after breaking up with you. The reason I married her was because she told me she was pregnant, and I felt responsible for the child."
"Then please continue to be responsible for your child," Susan said seriously.
"What about our child?"
"I will take good care of Oliver. You don't need to be responsible," Susan said firmly.
Even though there were so many uncertainties in her heart, she couldn't show a trace of them in front of Caleb.
"Caleb, a person must be loyal to his marriage and children, which is the bottom line of being a human."
"But I can't go on living with a woman I don't love as if nothing happened," Caleb said painfully.
"You're too selfish..."
"Yes, I admit I'm selfish. I don't want to continue like this. Maybe I'll get a divorce..."
"You can't get a divorce!" Susan shouted in shock, her face full of panic.
"Caleb, are you crazy?"
"I'll go crazy if we continue like this. I don't want to betray my family, so getting a divorce is the best choice."
"How can you bear to hurt your daughter?"
"I can't bear it, but I have to do it. Continuing to deceive her is a greater harm to her, as well as to you and Oliver."
Susan quickly shook her head. "Don't involve us. After Oliver's surgery, I won't let you see Oliver again. Caleb, if you divorce because of me, I will be an unforgivable sinner, and I will never be able to forgive myself."
"Don't take the blame. I'm not divorcing because of you, but because of myself."
"But if I didn’t show up, you would continue to maintain this marriage, won't you? Then how can I not blame myself? Yes, people are selfish, but there are always some things that are more important than one's own desires. For parents, the most important thing is their children. For the sake of the child, I can sacrifice everything, including myself.”
"Caleb, think about your daughter. Growing up in a single-parent family will cause her a lifetime of irreparable harm. How can you bear it? As for me and Oliver, we have gotten used to it over the years, we don't need your care."
"But I want to take care of you. I don't want my son to get leukemia and lie in the hospital waiting for bone marrow, while I know nothing about it. Susan, that would kill me. Do you understand?" Caleb's face turned pale. "Candy is my daughter, and I love her, but Oliver is also my son, and I love him just as much. I can't abandon either of them."
"And I love you! Susan!"
Every word of his shook Susan's heart. She closed her eyes, and suddenly smiled, "Then you have to tell your daughter that you have fallen in love with another woman, that you don't want her anymore, and want to start a new family with another woman and another child?”
"Caleb, while everything can still be turned back, don't make any more mistakes."
"It's a mistake for me to act as if nothing happened, and I can't do it either. Let's not talk about this for now." Caleb interrupted her, "I just want to do one thing now..."
With that, Susan had no time to react and was embraced by him. His embrace gave her a strong sense of security.
"Caleb..." Susan struggled.
"Let me hold you, Susan.”
"I miss you so much."
Every time she struggled, Caleb held her tighter. He didn't hurt her, but he didn't let her break free. "I'm sorry for hurting you.”
"I'm sorry for not fulfilling my responsibilities as a father over the past four years.”
"I'm sorry... I love you more than I did four years ago...”
"I'm sorry... I can't give you up even if being with you means losing everything..." Every word of his made Susan tremble and melt, and the last sentence almost made her collapse.
At this moment, she lost her reason, her heart trembled violently. Love and hate were inseparable, and she still loved him, otherwise these words would not have such a great impact on her. These words would not make her world shake, and the waves would not be so terrifying.
Susan's eyes couldn't help but turn red. He was really selfish, selfish to the core...
