Chapter 641: You Guys Take Your Time Arguing
Seeing Aaron's holier-than-thou attitude, Juniper couldn't help but get snarky, "So you're saying I should just suck up to him and kiss the Eilish family's butt? Is that it?"
He really saw her as a pawn, not his daughter. Did money and profit mean more to him than anything else? Even though she knew his true colors, Juniper still felt a bitter irony.
"Don't make it sound so bad. You were the one who brought him to meet me in the first place. He's your boyfriend. What's wrong with trying to win him back? You get together and break up whenever you feel like it? Is that how you roll?" Aaron shot back.
"Yeah, Juniper's so casual about dating. Aaron, you gotta make her explain herself today. I want an apology, and I want it now!" Elara chimed in, helping Saffron down the stairs.
Saffron put on her best pleading face, "Mom, let it go."
"No way, we can't just let it slide. Juniper, you're shameless!"
"What's the deal now?" Aaron frowned. "Why are you throwing insults?"
"Me, insulting? Your daughter was all over Douglas behind Saffron's back. Isn't it right for me to call her out?" Elara sneered.
"Douglas? No way," Aaron said, baffled.
"Why not? Saffron, stop covering for her. Tell your dad what happened."
Saffron sobbed, "My friend saw Juniper at the bar, and she saw her kissing Douglas..."
"Impossible! Your friend must be seeing things!" Aaron denied it flat out. He almost said why would Juniper want Douglas when she's already with Anthony? What a joke. Besides, she always looked down on Douglas.
"I couldn't believe it either, but my friend sent me a photo," Saffron said.
"See for yourself!" Elara shoved the phone in Aaron's face.
In the bar hallway, Douglas was holding Juniper, and they really looked like they were kissing.
Aaron was stunned, "Juniper, what's going on?"
"Douglas forced me," Juniper said calmly. She didn't expect Saffron to pull this stunt. Impressive.
"Forced? You look pretty into it. Does that look forced? You're just making excuses!" Elara accused angrily.
"The lighting is so dim. How can you say I was into it? Stop talking nonsense."
"Not into it? Then how come there's a photo?"
"Yeah, I did meet Douglas at the bar, and he did cheat. I saw him with another woman, and I chased after him to snap a pic."
"Haha, you say you caught him cheating? Hahaha, Juniper, your lie is pretty elaborate, but who would buy it?"
"I guess you know better!"
"Where's the photo? Didn't you say you saw him cheating?"
"I didn't get to take it. He noticed and grabbed me, that's why you have the photo you see now."
"Juniper, are you getting back at me? How could you... The photo is already taken, and you still blame Douglas... I didn't expect you to be so deceitful. You're too much."
"Too much? Saffron, will you die if you don't play the victim for a day? Dare to take off your mask and argue directly?" Juniper shot back.
"What are you talking about? I don't get it. Juniper, even if I was wrong in the past, I'm pregnant now. Do you have to harm my baby?"
"Maybe losing it would be a blessing. With parents like you, it's better off not being born!"
"Juniper!" Aaron raised his hand to slap her. Saffron and Elara eagerly waited, but Aaron's hand never came down. He clenched his fingers one by one in mid-air.
"Honey, why didn't you smack her? You need to stand up for your daughter. You can't keep letting her off the hook," Elara urged, practically wishing Aaron would beat Juniper to a pulp.
But Aaron held back, clenched his fingers, and pulled back his fist, "It must be a misunderstanding. Juniper's already dating Mr. Eilish. It's impossible..."
"The photo's crystal clear, and you still say it's a misunderstanding? Both Juniper and Saffron are your daughters. You can't play favorites!"
"Douglas was Juniper's boyfriend first. Saffron stole him away."
"What are you saying? That Saffron had it coming?"
"That's not what I mean. Douglas isn't a good guy either. One minute he's into Juniper, the next he's into Saffron. If Saffron weren't pregnant, I'd have ended it."
Elara laughed coldly, "Yeah, you want Juniper, your golden child, to latch onto the Eilish family. How could you ever respect the Phillips family? We're all just dead weight to you, right?"
"Stop with the harsh words. Anyway, it must be a misunderstanding. From the photo, nothing happened. Let's drop it and never bring it up again."
"Nothing happened? They were kissing, and you say nothing happened?"
"The photo's so blurry. How can you even tell?"
"Aaron!" Elara was livid. "You owe me an explanation."
"Stop making a scene."
"Dad, you've always favored Juniper. I've never said anything, but this time she, she..." Saffron sobbed dramatically. "Juniper, you've always targeted me and been harsh. I put up with it because I felt guilty. But now you're going after my baby. As a mother, I can't stand it."
"Aaron, you must give Saffron justice today, or I won't let it go!" Elara demanded.
"It's so late. If you want to make a scene, at least check the time," Aaron dodged.
"I don't care what time it is. You can't just let it go!"
"I'm not dealing with this drama. Bye," Juniper said and headed upstairs.
Aaron, Elara, and Saffron kept arguing downstairs.
Back in her room, feeling down, Juniper suddenly got a call from Terry.
She thought, 'Weird, why's he calling so late? Could it be...'
Juniper felt a flicker of hope. She calmly answered, "Terry."
"Sorry to bug you so late," Terry said.
"It's cool. What's up?"
"Would you still like to come work at the Eilish Group?" Terry sounded pumped.
Did Anthony change his mind?
It took her three days to change his mind. Sweet!
Juniper thought angrily, 'How dare he tell me what I can and can't do! What does he take me for? A puppet to be summoned and dismissed at will?'
"Are you still there?" Terry asked.
"Yeah, I'm here," Juniper replied.
"Do you want to come to work?"
"I do," Juniper said. Even though she was mad at Anthony, she needed a job, and she wanted to prove herself at the Eilish Group. As for Anthony... okay, she admitted she hadn't given up on him yet.
She thought, 'Juniper, why are you so easily swayed? You're totally blinded by good looks.'
"Great, see you at 8:30 tomorrow morning."
"Okay, see you at 8:30."
Juniper hung up the phone, looked at herself in the mirror. A few minutes later, she couldn't help but laugh.
Starting work tomorrow!
