Chapter 476 Cake
Mia was fuming at Susan, barely able to breathe. She saw her son and snapped, "What? Think I'll bully her?"
Caleb noticed Mia's anger. He knew Susan well; she often brushed him off. No way Mia could bully her.
He smiled, "No way. My mom's the gentlest."
"Exactly! She thinks she can push me around. I came to see her out of kindness, and she threw me out. When have I ever been treated like this? If it weren't for my grandson, I'd have argued with her."
"Don't argue. It's bad for your health; not worth it."
"I'm not stooping to her level." Mia still looked upset. "It's just because I have a good temper. If it were your dad, do you think she'd dare act up?"
Caleb thought Susan probably would.
"I'm doing this for you and my grandson. Otherwise, why would I come here to be mistreated? You really like someone with such a tough temper. I don't get it."
"As long as it's her, I like everything about her."
"You... Are you trying to annoy me?"
"Alright, alright, don't be mad. I'll handle it."
Mia grumbled, "Rely on you? If you could handle her, would I have to come here myself? You're usually tough, but why can't you handle her? Some women shouldn't be treated too well. The more you indulge her, the less she'll respect you."
"I know, I know." Caleb nodded, escorting Mia into the elevator. "You should head back now."
"Are you tired of me? What a waste of my efforts."
"Hurry up. I'll keep working on Dad."
"Thanks, Mom."
"I'm not doing this for you; I'm doing it for my grandson."
"Yes, yes." The elevator doors closed, and Caleb smiled wryly.
When he walked into the hospital room, Susan glared at him.
Caleb was used to it and greeted her with a smile. "Hi."
"Uncle Caleb," Oliver called out happily.
"Oliver."
"Uncle Caleb, Grandma was just here," Oliver quickly explained.
"I know."
"Did you ask your mom to come?" Susan asked.
"It wasn't me," Caleb quickly distanced himself.
"Why is your family so annoying? Can't they leave me alone?"
"Sorry, I didn't expect my mom to come. If I had known, I would've stopped her."
"If they come to bother me again, I'll have security throw them out."
"It won't happen again."
"And you, don't come either, or I'll have security throw you out too." Susan looked at him with disdain. Caleb was her nightmare.
"I can't do that." Caleb raised the cake box. "I bought your favorite cherry cake."
Susan frowned and looked at Oliver, who quickly shook his head.
"Mommy, it wasn't me. I don't know anything."
Susan was speechless. If it wasn't him, who else could it be? She prided herself on being smart, but she was betrayed by her own son. Susan felt deeply hurt.
"I don't like cake."
"You do, and it's a cherry cake from Bliss Bake."
"I used to like it, but not anymore. Caleb, don't think you know everything about me. You don't understand me at all," Susan said defensively.
"If I don't understand, let's start over and get to know each other again," Caleb said calmly.
"I'm not interested," Susan shot back. "Why would I want to get to know someone I dislike?"
"Starting over means putting aside past issues."
"It's not prejudice; you're just awful. Even if we got to know each other a hundred times, it wouldn't change. The more I know you, the more I dislike you."
"Can this cherry cake be an apology?"
"No need."
Did he think a cherry cake would win her over? Not a chance.
"Take your cake and get lost."
If Oliver weren't there, she would've said "scram."
"Mommy, don't. I want to eat it," Oliver said, grabbing the cake from Caleb.
Susan frowned. "Oliver."
"Mommy, I like cherry cake."
"I'll buy it for you next time. Don't eat his."
"I want it now. Don't waste Uncle Caleb's kind gesture." Oliver opened the box, took a bite, and savored it. "It's so good, super sweet."
"Mommy, have a bite too."
"I don't want it," Susan refused.
"Just one bite, please." Oliver climbed onto the bed and brought the cake to Susan's mouth. "Just one bite."
"I don't want it."
Susan didn't want to, but Oliver was too persistent. She took a bite.
It tasted really good.
She didn't like sweets, but the cherry cake from Bliss Bake was her exception.
After the first bite, she wanted more.
"It seems even better than before. Mommy, have another bite," Oliver said, feeding her another bite.
Susan licked her lips.
"If it's good, I'll make it again next time."
"What did you say? You made this?" Susan said sarcastically. "Lying to a child? Only a pro can make a cake like this. Are you saying you're a genius?"
"I recently found out I have a talent for baking. This isn't my first try. I've been learning for a while. I can make other things too."
"Uncle Caleb learned to bake just for my mommy? That's amazing," Oliver praised.
"For your mommy, I'm willing to put in all my effort."
Susan couldn't stand their conversation.
"Do you think you can win us over with a cake?" She sneered.
"First, this isn't about winning over. Second, I'm giving you my all, not just a cake. You'll see how much effort I'm putting in."
Susan was firm, but his sincere words made her heart skip a beat.
Sweet talk, that's all. She couldn't be won over so easily. She reminded herself.
This is just the beginning. If she's already wavering now, how will she withstand his efforts later?
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
"Susan." Francis stood at the door holding a bouquet of pink roses.
