Chapter 877 Focus on Career
Two days later.
Saffron angrily knocked over the nurse's tray of medicine and snapped, "Do you even know how to give a shot? Are you trying to kill me with pain?"
"I'm sorry, Ms. Cooper..." the nurse stammered, trembling.
It was clearly because Saffron kept moving that she couldn't find the vein, but Saffron took it out on her. The nurse could only endure it silently, not daring to complain.
The last nurse who spoke up got slapped by Saffron and lost her job.
Because she was new, she was unlucky enough to be assigned by the head nurse to take care of Saffron.
"Shut up! Get out!" Saffron yelled. "Get me a professional doctor, or I'll tear this hospital apart!"
"Yes, yes." The nurse hurriedly picked up the things on the floor and ran out crying.
"Saffron, you don't need to get so angry," Elara said, frowning.
She had also been suffering during this time, feeling extremely miserable, but she had to hold back her tears in front of Saffron and cry in secret.
"Do you want her to kill me? My leg is already broken, do you want me dead?" Saffron immediately turned her anger on Elara.
"What's wrong with you? You look like you're about to cry every day. Are you doing this on purpose to upset me?"
"I'm not dead yet, and you look like this."
"I..."
"Why hasn't Dad come in the past two days? Is he tired of me? Does he not care about me anymore?" Saffron asked anxiously.
Elara felt even worse; she didn't know how to explain it to her.
"I'm sorry, Saffron, it's all my fault."
"What did you do wrong?"
"I... I was wrong, I'm sorry." Elara just kept crying.
"Stop crying and tell me clearly, what exactly happened!" Saffron was panicking. "Speak up, are you trying to drive me crazy?"
"I... nothing, nothing happened." Elara still held onto a last bit of unrealistic hope, hoping Aaron would forgive her for Saffron's sake.
But she knew it was a foolish thought. How could someone like Aaron tolerate a woman betraying him?
Especially since her relationship with Hugo had lasted over twenty years.
Saffron wasn't his biological daughter; he would probably abandon them both.
Thinking of this filled Elara with despair.
She no longer wanted to take revenge on Juniper or care about the Cooper Group. She just wanted to stay in the Cooper Villa, with food and shelter, but now it was too late.
She regretted provoking Juniper; otherwise, she wouldn't have ended up in this situation.
"Something must have happened, tell me!" Saffron was frantic but couldn't get any answers. "This is so annoying. I don't want to lie in this hospital like a useless person. I want to be discharged. Go get the discharge papers for me now."
"You can't be discharged!" Elara shouted.
Her reaction was unusual.
Saffron frowned, "Why can't I be discharged? What exactly happened? Don't hide it from me, tell me the truth!"
"Your leg isn't fully healed yet, you still need medication and injections..." Elara stammered.
In reality, Aaron would never let them live in the Cooper Villa again. He hadn't sent them to Libertonia yet only because Saffron's leg wasn't healed.
Once she could be discharged, they would be sent away immediately. Elara believed Aaron was that ruthless.
So they could only stay in the hospital for now, dragging it out as long as possible, hoping Aaron's anger would subside and there might be a chance for reconciliation. At least, they could get some money.
Elara was waiting for Aaron to calm down. Going to him now would be asking for trouble and might get them kicked out immediately.
"How hard is it to get a doctor to take care of me at home? I hate the smell of disinfectant here; it makes me want to vomit."
Saffron made a disgusted face. "I think Dad doesn't care about me anymore. His attention must be on Juniper. If I don't go home soon, he'll forget about me!"
"No, you're his daughter, he wouldn't..." Elara said guiltily.
"What are you hiding from me?"
"Nothing, really nothing..."
But Saffron could tell she was lying, which made her even more uneasy about staying in the hospital, feeling like a useless person who couldn't do anything or know anything.
"I don't care, I must be discharged tomorrow. If you don't help me with the paperwork, I'll do it myself!"
In the restaurant.
Rarely getting out for dinner, Juniper talked a lot while eating.
"I suspected it and hired a detective to find out. I always wondered why Saffron's personality was so different from mine. Turns out she's not really part of our family. That Elara is something else, keeping it hidden for over twenty years without being discovered. She's really cautious and has a strong mental fortitude."
Anthony listened quietly and served her another bowl of soup.
"It took so long to find out she's not my real sister. Isn't my family's story ridiculously dramatic?" Juniper rolled her eyes and complained.
Anthony smiled, "Which wealthy family isn't dramatic? This kind of thing happens all the time."
"You're right. But your family is great; your dad is devoted to your mom, and their relationship is so good."
"Yes, devotion and loyalty are in the Cooper family genes, so you don't have to worry about anything dramatic happening to me."
"I'll take that with a grain of salt. Who knows what the future holds? It's not that I don't trust you, but life is long and unpredictable. So don't make promises you can't keep. But for now, I trust you 100%."
Juniper squeezed his hand. "Alright, let's not talk about my family's mess anymore. You must be tired of hearing it."
"No, I love listening to whatever you say."
"You're so sweet." Juniper pouted and made a kissing gesture.
"Do you have time soon? I want to take you home."
"Meeting the parents again?" Juniper bit her lip, hesitating. "It seems like every time we meet the parents, something bad happens. I'm a bit scared."
"It won't happen this time. I've already proposed to you, and my parents know."
"Did your dad argue with you?"
"He just scolded me a bit for not discussing it with him, but his attitude has softened a lot compared to before, so don't worry. He knows very well that our marriage is inevitable, and he has to accept it."
"Then let's give him some more time. There's no rush. Besides, I'm planning to go back to work next week, so I might not have time."
"But your body hasn't fully recovered."
"I'm much better now, don't worry. I'll take it easy and won't overwork like before. Anthony, I'm okay with getting married, but I don't plan to have kids right away. We're still young, and now is the time to focus on our careers. I know I might have to settle down in the future, but I want to achieve my own goals first. After all, I didn't study so hard for nothing. What do you think?"
