Chapter 398 Answer Full Marks

Layla immediately felt like she was facing a formidable enemy. The second social event usually ended up late. It was something she really disliked. However, when Mr. Brooks asked for her opinion, she could only reluctantly force a smile and nod. "Sure."

Mr. Brooks looked towards Brian.

"No." Brian's response was brief, just one word.

Layla internally cheered up.

Brian's indifference was a flaw, but his dislike for social events was a major advantage.

Layla also resisted social events and always tried to avoid them. During her internship, she was most worried about encountering a boss who enjoyed socializing.

"I think Miss Adkins really wants to go." Mr. Brooks looked at her.

Layla didn't want to speak at all. Shifting the responsibility to her, but she was clearly the one who least wanted to go.

Fortunately, Brian remained silent and was the first to leave the room. Layla bid Mr. Brooks goodnight and happily followed Brian.

In the corridor, Brian stood by the French window, hands in his pockets, gazing at the flickering lights of the building across the street.

His figure was tall and lonely.

Layla walked slowly up to Brian from behind, following his gaze.

"Isn't the night view beautiful?" Brian suddenly asked with profound meaning.

"Yes." Layla nodded without hesitation.

City P was known as the "sleepless city." Its night view, renowned globally, was vibrant, captivating her gaze.

Brian's lips curved with a hint of sarcasm. "You find it beautiful because you're standing on the 50th floor looking down on the masses. The ants bustling on the ground level don't see it the same way."

This seemed to be the first time Brian expressed his true feelings.

Curiously, Layla looked at him, his complex eyes filled with stories.

Brian gazed silently for a moment, then turned and left.

"Mr. Evans," Layla said.

He paused.

"Seeing the night view from the 50th floor is indeed beautiful. Even the busy crowds at the ground level, gazing up at this bustling city, and being drawn to it, ignites dreams of striving and working hard within them. Different perspectives offer different views, each with its own beauty. Those who were once at the bottom also have the day they ascend to the top of the city," she added.

Brian turned back, locking eyes with her.

Layla's bright and determined pupils met his gaze.

In the hotel.

The tall figure in front suddenly stopped, and Brian, expressionless, almost collided with Layla. "Do you want to come to my room?"

"What?" Layla realized she had followed him to his room and felt extremely embarrassed, quickly waving her hands. "No, I was just lost in thought."

"Goodnight," Brian said.

"Goodnight." Layla watched him enter the room, sighing in relief. It was fortunate that Brian was a cold man. With another male boss, it could have led to a big misunderstanding.

Working with a cold man did lead to some friction, but it made certain things simpler.

Overall, although physically more tired, it was much easier than dealing with a group of women before.

After returning to her room and getting ready for bed, Layla had just laid down when a video call came in.

"I've just laid down, are you spying on me?" she chuckled, resting her head on the soft pillow.

"This is called telepathy." On the video call, Samuel, dressed in a suit, sat in his office, with the grand Skyhaven Financial Center in the background.

At this moment, it was 3 p.m. at Skyhaven, the time when the sunlight was most brilliant, casting a dazzling glow on the magnificent skyscrapers. The light on Samuel outlined his handsome Greek-like profile, young, handsome, and wealthy.

It's said that black was the most restrained color, yet also the color that stirred a woman's desire the most. Looking at his exquisitely crafted face, Layla felt an urge to slowly undress him, one piece at a time. The thought made her limbs start to warm up.

How shy!

However, a small voice in Layla's mind mischievously suggested, ‘When he returns, I must try it.’

"Busy again?" Samuel asked.

"Yes. It's only 11 a.m. today, quite early," she replied.

"You blamed me for not letting you sleep before 10," he added.

"This is work. It's different." Layla shook her head.

"Your complexion looks a bit tired, not feeling well?" he asked.

Layla had been feeling dizzy all day, and lying in bed now made her feel even more drained. But she didn't want Samuel to worry, so she smiled and said, "Maybe the video has a skin-smoothing effect?" Layla joked. "How do I look in the video? Am I prettier?"

"You've always been beautiful," he replied.

Layla teased. "Nice, full marks for the answer."

"That's the truth," he added.

"Okay. You're as handsome as ever."

"Am I so handsome that you feel like taking off my suit?" he asked.

Layla was taken aback.

"How did you know?" She was surprised.

"I know everything you think." Samuel confidently said, "I'll fulfill your wish as soon as I get back."

"That's your wish, isn't it?" she asked.

"It's our shared wish," Samuel replied.

"Alright."

Samuel was addicted to teasing, even in video calls. Layla didn't mind. In fact, she sometimes found it quite exciting. Life needed some spice.

Layla yawned widely.

"Tired?" he asked.

"Yes, I woke up at six in the morning." She was about to fall asleep even as she spoke.

"Go to sleep if you're tired. Cover up well and don't kick the blankets," he said.

"But how would I know if I've kicked the blankets once I'm asleep?" she asked.

" So will I fly over and hold you tight?" Samuel added.

Layla closed her eyes and smiled. "I'll already be at work when you fly over. Okay, I really need to sleep now."

"I'll watch you sleep," he said.

"Don't, that's so weird," she refused.

"It's not weird, I just want to watch you."

"Watch me when you come back. I'm too tired. Goodnight." Layla hung up and fell asleep in a second.

On the other end of the video call, Samuel gazed deeply at the screen, his eyes full of tenderness, reluctant to end the call. As the screen darkened, his face was still upturned, with a unique curve at the corner of his mouth.

Samuel truly wanted to fly to Layla immediately, holding her small, fragrant body in his arms. He wanted to kiss the top of her head, gently smell the fragrance of her hair, and be with her forever.

Samuel was addicted to a lifetime of sweetness.

In the morning, Layla woke up feeling dizzy and had a severe headache. Her throat felt dry and sore as if she had swallowed sand.

Touching her forehead, she felt slightly warm.

Feeling frustrated, she found it unfortunate to fall ill at the peak of her workload.

After resting for a while with her eyes closed, the alarm rang again, forcing Layla to sit up, supporting herself against the wall as she felt dizzy. She made her way to the bathroom, washed up quickly, drank a large glass of water, but the dryness and soreness in her throat persisted.

Feeling weak all over, Layla struggled to get dressed and head out, where Brian was already waiting at the door.
