Chapter 747 Taking Charge Independently
Anthony's heart was filled with intense emotions, so strong that Juniper could feel them even without looking up at him.
She felt a strong pressure and kept her head down.
'Anthony... he still have feelings for me? No, it's impossible, and it can't happen.'
Jack suggested having dinner together, but Anthony declined.
He needed some time to calm down; otherwise, if he drank a bit tonight, he didn't know what he might do.
Jack hosted the dinner and was in high spirits, ordering a bottle of red wine.
Raising his glass, he said, "This time, it's mostly thanks to you."
"No, it has nothing to do with me," Juniper also hoped it had nothing to do with her. 'No, please don't let it be related to me.'
"No, no, you deserve a lot of credit. Come on, let's drink."
Juniper could hold her liquor well, and since Jack was in a good mood, she accompanied him for a couple more glasses.
When they had drunk half a bottle of red wine, she advised, "Your blood pressure is high, don't drink too much."
"I haven't had a drink in a long time. I'm happy today, so I need to drink to my heart's content! It's fine! Let's continue."
"No."
"Then just one more glass, the last one."
"Alright." Juniper had no choice but to drink another glass with him.
"I need to go to the restroom," Jack said, standing up unsteadily.
"Are you okay? Should I help you?"
"No need. I can manage, wait for me." Jack staggered away.
Juniper opened her phone and replied to a message Brice had sent her an hour ago: [What are you busy with?]
Juniper: [Having dinner with my boss.]
Brice replied instantly: [Hmm, that's worth celebrating.]
Brice: [It's Friday, want to go to a bar for a drink later?]
Juniper: [No need, I've already had some at dinner.]
Brice: [When are you free then? I'm curious about your drinking capacity.]
Juniper smiled and replied: [I'm afraid you'll cry.]
Brice: [That good? Whiskey?]
Whiskey was Juniper's weakness, but she still replied defiantly: [Bring it on, I'm not afraid of you!]
Then she put her phone aside. Twenty minutes passed, and Jack hadn't returned.
Could something have happened?
Juniper got up to look for him and heard a waiter shouting in the hallway, "Someone has fainted!"
It was Jack.
Juniper quickly called an ambulance and took him to the hospital.
Jack's wife arrived soon after.
By noon the next day, Jack woke up, but the doctor advised him to rest in the hospital for half a month.
"Sorry, I shouldn't have let you drink yesterday."
"It's not your fault. I didn't listen to you and insisted on drinking. I'm getting old, can't handle it anymore..."
"Juniper, the KD project will be entirely up to you. I'll have Lisa assist you. While I'm in the hospital, you'll be in charge of everything. No need to report to me, you make the decisions. I trust you."
Wouldn't that mean more time spent with Anthony?
Juniper had a bad feeling, but she had no choice but to agree, "Alright, you rest well and don't worry about the company."
"Yes, I trust you."
Monday morning, at KD Company.
Juniper explained the situation to Anthony, "So during this period, I'll be in charge. But don't worry, I've been with this project from the start, and I'm very clear about it. There won't be any mistakes."
When had Anthony ever doubted her work?
This meant they would be in more frequent contact, and he wasn't sure if that was good or bad. His feelings were quite complicated. "Alright."
"Okay." Juniper pursed her lips, "Shall we go to the meeting now?"
Anthony nodded, taking the documents and standing up.
The meeting lasted until noon, with an hour for lunch, and would continue in the afternoon.
At noon, Juniper went to the restroom before heading to the employee cafeteria.
Her appearance caused quite a stir.
"When did our company get such a beautiful woman?"
"I love top-tier beauties."
"Great figure, great temperament."
"Which department is she from? Does she have a boyfriend?"
The men were secretly excited, while the female employees were both jealous and envious.
"She dresses so beautifully for work, with such a short skirt, deliberately showing off her legs and butt."
"This kind of woman wants everyone to look at her."
"She's only a little pretty. Must be plastic surgery."
"Of course."
Juniper was used to this. If a day went by without women being jealous of her, she would start to doubt herself.
Besides, her outfit was very normal work attire, the length was perfectly fine. They couldn't say the skirt was short just because her legs were long.
So, if they wanted to be jealous, nothing could stop them; anything could be said.
She sat quietly eating her meal, replying to emails. She was now focused on completing the KD project, but she also had to manage other projects.
Highly focused, she didn't even know what she was eating, but when Anthony walked past her, she sensed it immediately and looked up.
He and his assistant were also there for lunch.
"Wow, it's Mr. Eilish."
"So handsome, he's the most handsome man I've ever seen, and he's got a great build too."
"Forget it, Mr. Eilish is already married."
"So what? A man as excellent as him having a few more girlfriends is no big deal. I think his wife would understand."
"Agreed, monopolizing such an outstanding man would bring bad karma."
Juniper was speechless at these women's values.
Sure, an attractive man could be admired, that was normal, but saying such things was absurd. The world still needed moral constraints, right?
At least she had completely given up on him, a married man.
"Hi, is anyone sitting across from you?" A well-dressed man in his thirties with glasses asked.
Juniper shook her head.
"New colleague?"
"No, I'm from MG Company."
"Oh, that's a famous real estate company. You're impressive."
Juniper smiled, showing she just wanted to eat quietly.
But the man kept trying to be friendly, and after learning she was working on a project, he offered to show her around the company.
Juniper felt a headache coming on.
Not far away, Joey sneezed.
Was the air conditioning too cold?
No, it was the chilly aura surrounding Anthony across from him.
He cut his steak without looking up.
Joey glanced back. As a seasoned player in the field of love, he was sure this was a sign of jealousy.
"That person doesn't need to come to work tomorrow."
"Yes, Mr. Eilish." Joey silently sympathized with the man. Such a good job, lost just like that, how unlucky.
Men often fall because of women, especially beautiful women. Anthony, too, such a generous man, had become "petty" over a woman.
It could only be said that men in love were irrational, especially when they liked a deceitful woman, failing to see she succeeded through her looks.
"I don't have much to do this afternoon, let me show you around. I'm an old employee."
Juniper hated persistent men who couldn't take a hint, and the surrounding women thought she was seducing him, saying nasty things, making her even more helpless.
When something went wrong, it was often women who blamed other women.
Juniper was about to leave without finishing her meal when a hand gently rested on her shoulder, "Have you been waiting long?"
