Chapter 663 Seeing Through but Not Saying
Juniper thought to herself, 'Thank God. Finally, some good news today. Dealing with him while having a fever would be the end of me.'
"Alright," Juniper said.
"Alright? Aren't you worried?"
"Worried about what?" Juniper's head was spinning, and she was barely following his rambling. He never made any sense.
"Worried that there might be women hitting on me at the event."
Juniper let out a sarcastic laugh. "If she can take you off my hands, I'd be grateful."
Right now, she just wanted someone to distract him and give her a break.
"That sounds like an insult. Are you jealous? Don't worry. Once I like someone, I'm loyal. I won't even look at those women. I promise tonight, everyone will have a woman except me."
Juniper rolled her eyes. "I don't believe you."
"You don't believe me? Then come with me, or I'll tell you where it is, and you can check it out. Video proof is also an option."
"I'm not in the mood to argue with you." Juniper touched her forehead, which was burning up. "I have to go to work now, bye."
"Take care of yourself today, and don't have any private interactions with Mr. Eilish. Wait for me tomorrow..."
Mira walked over, and Juniper hung up the phone immediately.
Mira asked, "Is the contract with Infinity Group ready?"
"Not yet."
'Isn't she usually super efficient?' Mira thought.
Mira looked annoyed. "Don't make personal calls during work hours. You're here to work."
"I know," Juniper replied.
Mira turned and left.
Juniper's head was spinning, and by noon, she forced herself downstairs to buy some fever medicine. She lay on her desk and slept for a while, sweating all over. She felt a bit better but still heavy.
She didn't know how she made it through the workday and immediately took a cab home.
"Juniper, you're back early today? No dinner with Mr. Eilish?"
"Juniper?"
Juniper held onto the wall as she went upstairs.
"Are you okay? Are you sick?" Aaron wanted to follow her, but Elara stopped him.
Elara teased, "She's not sick; she just doesn't want to deal with you. She's always had that bad temper. If you keep bothering her, she'll just find you annoying."
Aaron murmured, "I wonder if she's eaten anything."
"I'll have the maid bring something up later. Don't worry about it." Elara said this, but of course, she wouldn't have the maid bring anything. She'd be happy if Juniper starved.
"Just remember. I'm going out after dinner."
"I know," Elara agreed readily.
Juniper took her medicine and lay in bed, falling into a deep sleep, waiting for the fever to break.
She woke up around four in the morning, drenched in sweat, extremely weak, and still breaking out in cold sweats.
Her breathing was hot and labored, her whole body felt light and airy, as if she were about to die.
She seemed especially vulnerable when she was sick, and her nose tingled.
'Mom, I feel so awful and so miserable,' she thought.
Her eyes reddened.
She wished Anthony could be by her side to take care of her. The last time she was sick, he stayed with her for a whole day and night, and she quickly recovered.
But this time, her side was empty. Anthony wouldn't be there for her. He was probably with that classmate, all lovey-dovey, having long forgotten about her.
If that was the case, she wouldn't like him anymore. He wasn't the only man in the world; even Ronnie, the playboy, was better than him.
Juniper thought about his faults to make herself give up on him. But she couldn't help but miss him even more.
Later, she dozed off again, feeling like crap, and when she woke up, it was already daylight, seven o'clock. Time to drag herself to work.
Juniper hauled her aching body out of bed, feeling like she'd been hit by a truck.
She felt like she was dying.
Dragging her half-dead self, she somehow floated to the office, getting ready for the meeting. Every step felt like walking on clouds, her head spinning.
"Juniper?" Terry called her name a few times before she snapped out of it and hurried to hand out the materials.
She felt like she was gonna pass out any second, her body weak and wobbly, like it wasn't even hers.
As she walked towards Anthony, she stumbled.
Anthony reached out to steady her, feeling how hot she was.
Only then did he really look at her. Her face was flushed, and she looked awful.
"Do you have a fever?" Anthony's heart tightened.
Juniper wanted to shake her head but didn't dare, as it would make her dizzier. She could only weakly say, "No, I'm fine..."
Dozens of eyes in the office were watching this scene.
Mira's gaze was heavy.
Juniper floated back to her seat.
The meeting started, and the execs took turns talking, but Anthony couldn't focus. His eyes kept drifting to Juniper. Her face was getting redder, and she looked like she was burning up, barely holding on.
Anthony thought, 'Is it because of the rain that day that she got a fever? She knows she has a fever, so why doesn't she rest? Who is she trying to impress by toughing it out?'
Anthony's heart twisted.
"Mr. Eilish?"
With dozens of eyes on him, Anthony realized he had zoned out.
"Mr. Eilish, regarding the cancellation of the cooperation with the Woods Group, we hope you can reconsider."
Hearing that name, Ronnie, put Anthony in a bad mood.
Anthony said coldly, "I've already decided. No reconsideration."
"But why?"
Anthony sneered, "As the CEO, do I need to give a reason?"
The execs were stunned. Anthony was known for being gentle and rational, but now he was being so capricious. It was unlike him.
They didn't dare to say anything, but they all had some complaints in their hearts.
"Meeting adjourned." Anthony stood up.
Everyone was dumbfounded.
The meeting had just started, but now it was over.
Juniper thought she would die if it continued.
Anthony strode out of the office and instructed Terry, who followed immediately, "Tell Juniper to go home and rest."
Terry replied, "Yes, I said the same thing. I noticed she had a fever yesterday morning and advised her to take a leave and go home, but she kept pushing through. She didn't take a leave today either. I think she's worse off than yesterday."
'Is she trying to burn herself out?' Anthony thought, his mood growing darker.
His mood had already been messed up by Juniper these past two days, and now that she was sick, it was not only chaotic but also particularly annoying.
Anthony thought he shouldn't have agreed to let Juniper join the company and become his secretary, always hovering around him. He knew about every man she got close to. Out of sight, out of mind, but now that was impossible.
Anthony said coldly, "Then force her to take a leave. If she doesn't go home to rest, she can forget about working here."
Terry was shocked. 'Is Anthony really this domineering? This is so unlike him. His recent decisions and actions are increasingly out of character. He used to be gentle and elegant, but now he's becoming more like a domineering CEO.'
All these changes seemed to have started after Juniper appeared.
Terry was a smart guy, perceptive and discreet. "Yes, Mr. Eilish. I'll take care of it right away."
