Chapter 660 I'll Change Whatever You Like
"Seriously, is there any chick out there who'd dare to turn me down?" Ronnie was both ticked off and kinda entertained. He thought Juniper had a mouth on her, unlike those other girls who'd nibble on their salads and barely say a word, all fake and stuff.
He'd never met a socialite who was so blunt. It was kinda refreshing, no wonder he was so into her, more and more every day.
Juniper shot back, "Just let me go, and I'll say whatever you want. Let's just call it quits and not talk anymore, okay?"
Ronnie's eyes sparkled with mischief. "You won't miss me?"
Juniper shook her head like crazy. "Nope, not at all."
Ronnie felt another sting. He thought Juniper was stomping all over his heart. She was so cold!
"But I can't just let you go. How could I not regret letting such an interesting little catch slip away?" He said, all cocky.
Juniper snapped, "I'm not some catch."
"What's wrong with me?"
"Shouldn't the question be what's right with you?" Juniper shot back. "Honestly, you don't have a sincere bone in your body. Like you said, you just see me as a fun little game. Once we hook up and you get bored, you'll ditch me. If I fall for you, I'd be heartbroken. Why would I let you play me like that? That's just dumb."
Ronnie reminded her, "I said we could get married."
"But you're only after the Cooper Group, not me. I don't believe a player can change. Ronnie, you can't even promise to be faithful after marriage, can you?"
Ronnie didn't want to lie. "If a guy tells you that, he's definitely lying, including Anthony."
Juniper replied, "I know, but that's future stuff, and no one can predict it. But with you, it's clear as day. You'd cheat even before we got married. Why would I be with you knowing I'd get hurt? I'm not stupid. You can be a friend at best, but as a boyfriend, I don't want my heart broken."
Ronnie asked, "Why not look at it differently and have some faith? Maybe even a player can settle down one day."
Juniper shook her head. "I'm too old for fairy tales. My dad cheated on my mom and got a mistress. So I stopped believing in love a long time ago."
"Then why do you believe in Anthony?"
Juniper replied, "It's not that I believe in him, I just like him. I can't help it. Not believing in love doesn't mean I want to be single forever. I live in the moment. I like him, so I want to be with him."
Ronnie was speechless.
Juniper lived openly, freely, and without any BS. Everything about her was what he liked. The only problem was she didn't like him. It wasn't an act or playing hard to get, she genuinely didn't like him.
"Game over." Ronnie made a decision.
Juniper's eyes lit up. "You're finally letting me go?"
Ronnie explained, "No, I mean I won't treat this as a game anymore, and I won't see you as my catch. I'll seriously pursue you, like a man chasing a woman."
"Oh my God, is there a difference? It's still the same," Juniper was super disappointed.
Ronnie retorted, "How could it be the same? I'm seriously pursuing you. Juniper, I like you."
Juniper waved her hand. "Your 'like' is no different from a passing fancy."
Ronnie said, "How can you be so ungrateful? I really like you. Do you want me to dig out my heart?"
"What would I do with your heart?" Juniper pouted, swatting away his hand that was holding her chin. "You just won't let me go, will you?"
"Now I really don't wanna let go."
Juniper was on the verge of tears. How did she get tangled up with him? She couldn't shake him off.
"Ronnie, what do you even like about me? I'll change it, okay?"
"I like you just the way you are. How can you change that?" Juniper just opened her mouth when his finger gently pressed against her lips. "No one knows the future, so let's take it one step at a time and leave it to time, okay?"
Juniper was completely speechless. Whatever she said now wouldn't change anything.
"Be good, if we spend more time together, you'll find that I..."
"Find that you're even worse than I thought." Juniper cut him off without hesitation.
"Then let's wait and see," Ronnie said.
"Juniper, why are you back so late? Overtime or did Mr. Eilish take you out to dinner?" Aaron asked, all curious.
"Dad, I just saw a car drop Juniper off, but it wasn't Mr. Eilish's car," Saffron chimed in.
"Then who was it?" Aaron asked.
Juniper snapped, "Saffron, do you do nothing all day but spy on me? Do you want me to call the cops?"
Saffron shrank back, feeling wronged. "Juniper, you got it all wrong. I just happened to see it, I didn't mean to..."
Juniper was in a foul mood and cut her off, "Enough. No need to explain. I don't wanna hear your fake concern."
"Juniper..."
Elara jumped in, "Saffron, you know Juniper doesn't like it, yet you still show concern for her. She won't appreciate it and will just think you're spying on her. That's not cool. Juniper's old enough to decide who she wants to date. Even if she was with Mr. Eilish yesterday and someone else today, it's not your business. As long as she's happy."
Aaron got all worked up and asked, "Did you break up with Mr. Eilish and start seeing someone else?"
"Maybe she's seeing both at the same time. But that's good. She can choose and see who fits better," Elara added fuel to the fire. "Mr. Holland is already married, so who could be better than Mr. Eilish? Juniper, don't be fickle. If you keep picking, you might lose a better partner."
"Enough. Stop bugging me." Juniper ran upstairs.
"Juniper..." Aaron called out.
"Honey, Juniper has her own ideas, so stop worrying unnecessarily." Elara wished Juniper would play with fire and get burned.
Aaron complained, "She already has Mr. Eilish. What more does she want? Why can't she just be easy to deal with?"
Elara comforted him, "She's a girl with many suitors, so it's natural to be a bit fickle. What can you do?"
Juniper returned to her room, too upset to sleep.
'The guy I don't like is clinging to me while the guy I like might not like me back. Is God playing a joke on me? What's the deal with Anthony and that classmate?' Juniper kept guessing until her brain was about to explode.
The more Juniper thought about it, the more upset she got.
After tossing and turning on the bed, she sat up. 'No way, I won't be able to sleep tonight unless I get an answer.'
She immediately picked up her phone and called, but no one answered.
She called three times in a row, but still no answer.
'Could he be busy? Are they...' The thought drove Juniper nuts. She grabbed her phone and rushed out of her room.
"Juniper, where are you going so late?" Aaron tried to stop her, but Juniper ran too fast, and he only grabbed air.
"Don't worry about it!" Juniper's voice echoed in the air.
