Chapter 255 He Is Dead
At the wedding, there was silence as the crowd looked at Nora together and no one dared to breath.
Nora was wearing a white wedding dress, her face covered by a veil. However, people could see that her hands were tightly gripping the hem of her skirt.
Anger burned within Nora.
"You never wanted to marry me," she said through gritted teeth.
"Never thought about it," Samuel replied coldly and heartlessly. When he looked at Nora, there was no hint of love in his eyes, not even a trace of mercy or guilt. It seemed as though she was just an insignificant person or even just a joke.
"You're just using me..." Nora said.
"This was a gamble, and you lost."
"I didn't lose, and I will never lose!" Nora shouted.
Her shouts echoed through the hall, but they sounded weak. Roaring couldn't change her fate of being abandoned.
Every gamble had winners and losers. She had already lost since she stubbornly decided to marry a man who didn't love her. It was all destined to be a tragedy.
Nora forcefully tore off her veil and shouted, "Samuel, stop!
"We've come this far. You have to marry me.
"If you dare to leave, I will seek revenge." Nora anxiously chased after him.
Samuel stopped in his tracks. His gaze was indifferent. He warned, "If you want to seek revenge, I won't care. But if you hurt Layla, I won't spare the Eilish family."
After saying that, Samuel walked away with large strides.
"Stop. Don't leave." Nora tried to grab hold of Samuel but was stopped by Ruben.
"Let him leave. Aren't you embarrassed enough?"
"Am I embarrassed? He made a fool of me at the wedding, humiliating the Eilish family. Dad, how can you just let him get away with it? The Eilish family isn't afraid of the Holland family!" Nora struggled, and Brenda stepped forward, trying to stop her with Ruben.
"Listen to me. Stop making a scene." Ruben suppressed his anger with extraordinary self-control. He did not do this out of fear for Samuel. The Eilish family wasn't afraid of anyone. However, if Nora continued to make a scene, she would be ridiculed by others. Ruben didn't want her to suffer any more harm.
Nora couldn't break free and angrily watched Samuel heartlessly leave the banquet hall. Her eyes turned red from irritation.
"Samuel, I will get my revenge. Just wait and see. I won't let you get away with this! Samuel, I will make you regret it!" Nora shouted hysterically, disregarding the hundreds of people present.
Samuel walked forward with large strides. As soon as he left the banquet hall, the coldness on his face disappeared. His eyes sparkled with excitement, like a person in the darkness urgently chasing after the sunlight.
He was free.
From now on, no one from the Holland family or the Eilish family could stop him from being with the woman he loved.
When Samuel thought of this, his hand holding the phone trembled with excitement. "Where is she?"
He wanted to see her immediately.
"Mr. Holland, Miss Adkins is at the hospital."
"Did she get hurt?" Samuel asked anxiously.
"It's not Miss Adkins who had an accident. it's Owen, her brother," Tristian said.
Upon hearing Tristian's words, Samuel stopped in his tracks and his face turned pale.
Samuel sped in his car, the scenery on the side of the road moving crazily like lightning.
Samuel arrived at the hospital as quickly as possible. As soon as he stepped out of the elevator, he heard crying.
He slowed down his pace, each step feeling heavy.
In the hospital room, Layla stood beside Owen's bed, heartbroken.
"No, Owen isn't dead. Doctor, please save him. He's not dead!" Layla screamed, "He's not dead; He's still alive.
"Doctor.
"Save him...
"He won't die.
"He's only nineteen!
"He's still young, he won't die!" Layla pleaded with the doctor like a helpless child. "Hurry and save him, save him, doctor."
However, the devices showed no signs of life for Owen. Although the doctor felt regretful, there was nothing more that could be done.
"We did our best. Unfortunately..." the doctor sighed.
Upon hearing this, Layla cried even louder. She shook her head desperately, tears streaming down her face. "No, Owen isn't dead.
She shook Owen forcefully. "Owen, Owen, wake up. Don't sleep...
"Didn't you want to go and tell that girl you love her?
"Get up quickly. I'll go with you.
"Owen, you look handsome in a suit.
"Owen...
"Owen..."
When Layla saw Samuel, it seemed like she saw hope. She stumbled and ran toward him, falling in front of him.
"Layla."
Samuel held onto her, and she clung to his hand like a vine as she stood up, begging anxiously, "Samuel, save Owen. Let's go to a different hospital. The doctors here aren't professional enough, they can't save Owen.
"You must know many more professional doctors. Can you ask them to save Owen? He's not dead, he isn't...
"Can you?
"Please...
"Save him, save him, save him," Layla pleaded, tears streaming down her face. "Please save him, okay?
"He's still young, Samuel. He can't die."
She cried rivers of tears. Samuel looked at her, also feeling sad. He wanted to do something, too. Even if he had to give up all the Holland Group's wealth in exchange, he wouldn't hesitate.
However, he couldn't do anything. He hated himself for not being able to save Layla’s loved one.
"I'm sorry..." Samuel felt guilty and choked up. He closed his eyes in remorse.
Layla paused for a moment.
She shook her head vigorously. "No, don't say sorry. Save him, save Owen!"
She shook Samuel's hand. Then, she let go of his hand and threw herself at Owen again. She grabbed Owen's cold hand and swallowed the sour tears in her throat.
"Owen, do you feel cold? Let me warm your hands."
She grabbed Owen's hand and rubbed it desperately, trying to make his hands warm.
"Soon, you won't feel cold anymore, Owen...
"Soon..."
He was still alive, as long as his hands warmed up...
"Owen... Owen..."
Layla fainted and passed out.
Everything became dark.
Layla's face on the sickbed turned pale as if all her blood had been drained.
She had all kinds of nightmares, constantly calling Owen's name.
"Owen... Owen... Owen..." Layla screamed and woke up from a nightmare. She suddenly sat up.
Samuel immediately grabbed her hand. "I'm here."
"Samuel?" Layla felt confused as if she had lost track of time. She didn't know where she was. She looked around, shook her head, and said, "I had several nightmares just now. I dreamt of Owen...
"I also dreamt of a terrible car accident. A big truck was about to hit me, but Owen pushed me away. Then, he was hit and thrown out..."
Layla's eyes welled up with tears.
"Thank goodness it was just a nightmare. Where is Owen? I want to see him."
