Chapter 424 I'm Not Afraid of Danger

Samuel feared Layla's legs would ache from walking, worried she might grow weary.

That was what Samuel thought, but what he said was entirely different. "With your leg length, you'll be walking until dawn."

Complaining about her short legs, huh? Not everyone had legs that were 55 inches long.

"Walking until dawn it is, I'm not scared," Layla said, lifting her slightly rounded chin defiantly.

Samuel couldn't help but laugh inside. No wonder he liked petite girls; looking down at her from above, she was especially cute, no matter what expression she made.

But cuteness couldn't solve everything. At least, Samuel's frustration hadn't dissipated yet. Men's jealousy could last a long time; besides, he needed to teach Layla a lesson, or she wouldn't learn.

Layla's eyes darted around. "If you don't want to walk, then drive me."

She was clearly trying to compromise.

Samuel's deep eyes held a hint of a smile. "Do you think I'll drive you?"

She was seen through immediately.

Of course, what little tricks could Layla play in front of Samuel? Wasn't this just highlighting her own intelligence?

Layla pouted. "I'm just worried about you. Drive me, it's not far, just a ten-minute drive."

Ten minutes?

Samuel thought, ‘from the east side of the city to the west side, it takes at least thirty minutes by car. She isn't even feeling guilty about lying to someone who commutes between the company and her house every day?’

That seemingly innocent face looked increasingly cunning to Samuel. But he liked this kind of cunning, like a spice in life, adding interest. Too dumb would be boring.

"Come on, let's go. My legs are already sore from standing," Layla said, pulling Samuel's arm towards the car.

Finally, they got in the car.

Layla shivered. "It's really cold outside."

Samuel said, "Someone just said spring is here, it's much warmer."

"It is almost here. So when will spring come for us?" Layla asked playfully, smiling at him.

Samuel's eyes were deep and reserved.

Layla said, "Tell me."

Samuel uttered, "Depends on your behavior and my mood."

"You're so arrogant," Layla said, both annoyed and amused. They said you shouldn't spoil women too much, or they would become too arrogant. Weren’t men the same? She coaxed him, and he got all arrogant. When was it ever not about her mood before?

Thinking about it, Layla felt even more that Samuel had pampered her in countless ways before.

Now it was her turn to repay him.

James drove the car slowly, and Layla appreciated his perceptiveness. No wonder he was Samuel's secretary, he really understood.

"Was work busy today?" she asked, trying to make conversation, her tone enthusiastic.

Samuel replied, "Same as usual."

Layla continued asking, "So, very busy then. Did you eat on time?"

Samuel replied the same words, "Same as usual."

Layla asked, "Did you use the cup I gave you? Eight glasses of water a day."

"If you say 'same as usual' again, I'll get mad," Layla interrupted him urgently before he answered.

However, Samuel replied calmly, "I've been feeling a bit irritable lately."

Busy being mad at her, he didn't even want to use the cup she gave him, his liver was really acting up.

"Is it because you're not drinking enough water? I told you to drink more water. Do I need to hang a cup around your neck?" Layla laughed at the thought of Samuel with a pink cup hanging from his chest.

Samuel flicked her forehead. "What are you imagining now?"

"Like you care," Layla teased, making a silly face as she continued to imagine the adorable version of him. A pink water bottle and a bossy CEO? Quite the match.

"Yeah, I can't control your mind," Samuel said with a knowing look, "Who can even handle you?"

There was a hidden meaning in his words, hinting at her.

She was wrong; Samuel's heart was even smaller than a fingernail.

"Alright, alright, you can engaged my life," Layla said sweetly, acting all soft and cute, almost like a puppy sticking out its tongue.

Samuel didn't believe her. She just had an innocent face but was actually very stubborn and willful.

If he said east, she would definitely go west; she wouldn't give up until she achieved her goal.

Samuel constantly reminded himself not to be easily swayed by her sweet words.

Samuel said, " Nope, I want to live a few more years."

"May you live a long life," Layla said, trying to be as pleasing as possible. She had never said such flattering words in all these years, but now she was saying them all to him.

Layla's face was full of smiles, making Samuel's heart ripple with waves, feeling a subtle itch.

An impulse was brewing; he thought, ‘stop pretending to be cold, just kiss her hard and sleep with her to vent. Make her stay in bed for three days, and she would definitely remember.’

Layla could clearly feel Samuel's cold eyes changing, becoming more meaningful in the dim light, with a hint of desire, staring at her, giving her goosebumps.

Layla knew that look all too well.

Her face turned red to the ears; she let go of his hand, and quietly turned to sit properly, looking out the window.

That ever-present desire made her blush all the way.

Forty minutes later.

James said, "Boss, we're here."

Layla, being stared at, didn't move for a while, her hands on her lap fidgeting awkwardly, wanting to say something but hesitating.

"Aren't you getting out?" Samuel raised an eyebrow, his voice huskier than before.

Layla's delicate, shy face was incredibly alluring.

For a man who had been abstinent for a long time, it was the ultimate temptation.

Even Samuel's throat felt itchy. His heart had long been itching.

Layla sat awkwardly, avoiding Samuel's intense gaze with her clear eyes. His stare felt like a blazing fire, causing her to flush with heat. The car's atmosphere grew warmer in his presence, as if she were perched on a scorching surface, yearning for an escape.

However, Layla couldn't bear to leave Samuel; so she sat there, torn and hesitant.

"If you don't leave now, you won't be able to," Samuel's gaze deepened, his throat burning with itchiness.

Layla licked her dry lips, her heart pounding, feeling parched. Like a girl in her first love, she mustered up the courage. "Aren't you going to walk me up? The elevator is still a bit of a walk away, what if there's danger..."

She was already pregnant; what was she being shy about? Layla wanted to bang her head against the wall.

But then again, being burned by Samuel's gaze, with his heavy breathing in her ears, and her heart pounding like thunder, how could she not be shy?

Samuel inquired, "Aren't I the greater threat?" Indeed, he posed the most significant danger.

Yet, tonight, Layla resolved to embrace the risk.

With a flushed face but resolute eyes, Layla declared, "I fear no peril."
